Depending on the game your in the multiplayer option should be right on the main menu. For title specific instructions you can check the booklet inside the game case.

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ

Hello,

Recently i've had to move my xbox upstairs due to "issues"

And im curious, IF there is such a thing as a really long ethernet cable, where could one get one (does microsoft sell them?)

And also, would a long cable still provide me xbox live connection? I know its like drinking from a really long straw, in terms of bandwith consumption, but will it still work?

You can get longer ethernet cables online or in your local compute store.. anything up to 100metres is fine

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ

Hello,

Yes i have a question.

How does connecting to the internet work exactly?
I know this sounds stupid but im thinking since i have a phone in my room,

Could i possibly just stick an ethernet cable in the jack i believe its called, and the one into my xbox?

Or perhaps, do i need some pieces of hardware like a modem and router?

Thanks.

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ
Those are two seperate connections. You need a Modem for sure and router for ease of connectivity. You'll need to call an ISP to get service if you don't already have it and sent this from a library or friends. Once you have a modem you can follow my guide on the first page of this thread.

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ

Microsoft reviews every complaint. They have rules to go by, and if you break them - then it is tough. Their rules arent particularly strict either.

They let you read the code of conduct before creating an account. I realize that nobody ever reads that whole thing [it's huge], but them putting it there gives them the right to ban someone for anything that breaks the rules of it.

Microsoft's playground. You play by their rules. =)

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ

Umm hi. I'm not sure where this goes and correct me please if this in the wrong spot...

I have an account here on the website and this is what I'd like my permanent gamertag to be. But I'm not recieving my Xbox 360 or wireless router until Xmas and my birthday respectively. Now I've been told that when I go Live that my gamertag on my Xbox, which is the I use here, will not be allowed as it is already represented on the Live network. To my understanding my G.T. here on this website is considered part of the Live network. As such I won't be able to actually use this current account for my gameplay as soon as I go Live. Is there anyway to avoid this? Is my Live account on my Xbox 360 tied to my email and that will clear up the issue and won't have to make a new account when I go Live? Or will I?

Also as question I have currently been playing under my gamertag profile on a friends Xbox 360 and have been told I can transfer it to my system when I get it. Is this true? And if so, how do I do this?

any account you make on the site can be use on the console. When you get your xbox go to the sign in options then click recover account and follow the directions...just make sure you know your user name for your online xbox account (ladybloodsong) and the password you use.

Thank you very much for that. It relieves me to know that I won't lose my gamer tag of choice...

In the second question though...umm..do I need to load the profile onto an external drive and then onto the new xbox? Or is there a different process entirely?

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ
Account recovery will take care of that, I believe that is what your getting at. I think that you need to load individual saved items onto a memory card and transfer it to the new xbox though.

Version 2.0 Is here.

So you’ve got your new 360 and need to know how to get online?  Don’t worry your covered.

Pre-face:

The intent with the guide is to help the large amounts of new live members that are expected to be joining soon with all these smash games coming. The goal is to take out all the guess work of what’s needed and how to get onto what is possibly the best online service around.

Contents:

1. Bare Basics

2. Wired Connection Options

3. Wireless Connections

3b. Wireless Security

4. What you need to do on your console

5. Profiles Types

6. Basic things of Xbox Live

6b. Game Updates

6c. Dashboard Updates

7. Routers and Networking Issues

1. Bare Basics

Q: Is there any piece of equipment that I absolutely cannot get away with not having to get online?

A: There is one but if you already have a high speed internet connection you likely already have this and that is a modem. You need some way to get the internet out of your phone line or cable into your devices

Q: Can I use my dial-up internet with Xbox live?

A: No. Xbox live uses more bandwidth then a dial-up line could handle.

2. Connection Options

Once you’ve got your modem bringing in the internet you have several options. We’ll cover 2 of the most common setups.

Q: I already have a router or I plan on purchasing one how do I proceed?

A: This is the easiest method because it requires you to only one time mess with cables and power sources. Taking an Ethernet cable and plugging one end into your modem and the other into your WAN port on your router gives your router access to the internet. After you’ve got that you can plug an Ethernet cable into each LAN port and the other end(s) into a PC or for our guide an Xbox. Once you’ve done that you’re connected. Steps you need to take on your console are covered later in this guide.

Q: At the moment I just have a modem and just want to connect to live. How can I do this?

Ayes you can. All you need to do is take an Ethernet cable put one end in the modem and the other into your 360’s Ethernet port. Then unplug or reset your modem wait for it to power back up and your connected. Steps you need to take on your console are covered later in this guide.

Q: I have a USB modem how can I get one live (this also applies if you have a PC as well and you’d like both to be connected at the same time).

A: Well you can and it’s a fairly simple process. My friend Shad0wmanUK has already compiled a very good screenshot guide on ICS or Internet Connection Sharing. You can view the page on his site below:

For Xp computers

Vista Computers

If you have a wireless laptop and would like to use this option continue to the next section for the bridging page on shadow’s site witch will pertain to you.

Thanks! This will be a good help when I get an Xbox 360!

Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ

My xbox said, when I tried to get a new live account on my xbox (this account is on a friends xbox) that there was a technical difficulty, and to try again later.

Is the problem with my code, or with the microsoft servers?

loadTOCNode(1, 'symptoms');
heres some ideas....

If the status is MODERATE or a STRICT, you may experience the following issues:
You cannot join certain game sessions.
When you are playing a game with other people on Xbox Live, you may be unable to hear what they are saying.

loadTOCNode(1, 'cause');
These issues may occur for several reasons. These reasons include but are not limited to the following:
You have connected to Xbox Live by using an incompatible device.
The device that you used to connect is compatible. However, your device has unsupported firmware.
Note You may experience the symptoms with the Network Status set to OPEN when you play against another user who has their Network Status set to MODERTE or to STRICT NAT. The host of the game will have to resolve the NAT issues accordingly.

THINGS TO TRY

loadTOCNode(1, 'whattotry');
Before you follow these steps, make sure that you power cycle all the devices on the network.

1.Test your connection to Xbox Live.
Note You will not receive a result for this test if you cannot sign in to Xbox Live.
2.If your router or gateway is using a moderate or strict NAT, replace it with an Xbox Live-compatible device.

Sv: Re: How to get connected to Live FAQ
Hi

I have after a long time (½-1 year) connected to live again.

but I can't. When I take the test, it passes all byt fails the Xbox Live tab.

I have tried both wired and wireless, trough router and directly on the Broadband Modem.

I have talked to support, they don't know what the problem is, they want me to send the x to repair.

But when it's both with wireless and wired, It can't be a hardware problem?? can it?

I'm not banned either.

Any suggestions to a solution, please help. Would really like to get connected, especially after the new update!!!

Thanks in advance
