840/840 Club
Since it looks like nobody is ever going to see those 5 secret achievements at this late date, does anyone fancy signing for the 840 top score that we're never going to see higher than? Or would someone like to take this as a challenge to fine those other 5?

We'll get the 4 'secret' achievements when Konami release the downloadable content...

Hopefully soon.... 2 levels (2 achievements for each).

I've heard that rumor, but it seems unlikely. ~1000 points is the base game requirement. DLC is allowed to take it to 1250, so I expect any DLC will add something beyond the 160 missing points that are already accounted for as 4 secrets.

I don't know about that. I mean, look at halo 3.

Halo 3 was a special case, and came with 1000 points on release.
All full games must come with 1000 points on release (this came into force over a year ago) and DLC can take them up to 1250.

Unless its a halo gameBig Smile [:D]

I wasnt aware that the secret achievements were still secret.  Im a hellboy fan and was looking forward to getting this game when i find it cheap.

Yep, everywhere I check the secret achievements are still just that...secret. No one has figured them out yet.

I'm pretty sure it's against Microsoft's agreement to release a game without a full 1,000 achievement points out of the box, and this is a great case of that. I mean, I love Hellboy and this game had great potential. It's an alright game, at best, but I'd like to get 1k on it. The fact that it's been out so long and we've yet to even hear of DLC is absurd...

Honestly, we need to figure out what those last achievements are, or we need to contact Microsoft about a breach in the contract/rules. As I said, each game is indeed required to have 1,000 achievement points out of the box, without DLC required; I think it was Fable 2 that sort of made a big deal out of this, as people were very upset they had to own Pub Games (which would force them to pay 10 dollars extra) to get all the achievements.

OT i know, but which Fable2 achievements required you to also have pub games?
There is an achievement in The Incredible Hulk which (as far as i am aware) only unlocks if you have played Iron Man.

To my knowledge, I believe "The Completionist" is only achievable through use of the Pub Games; I could be mistaken, but without Pub Games you cannot gain this achievement due to the fact you need 2 different books that only unlock through Pub Games. There may be another, not sure...

As for Hulk, I remember you can get the "Shellhead" achievement if you beat a "Hulk Buster" soldier. If that's the achievement you're referring to.

Seems to me I read somewhere that there was another way to get that achievement that did not require the Iron Man game... Like maybe finishing the game and getting all other achievements or something, but I'm not positive. (edit: oh wait, it was beating the Hulkbuster, as someone said a couple of messages up).

Also, the rule is "Approximately 1000 gamerscore and Up to 50 achievements". There are a couple that don't quite make it (by maybe 30 points) and this would qualify under that rule (if it still exists), as I think it was only a 10 point achievement.. A bit of a cheesy tie-in though to try to sell both games.

I'm honestly not sure why so many people think there will be DLC that adds these 4. There are a couple of problems with this.. 1) Why would they show up at all until the DLC already exists? For example, when I first bought Mass Effect and Oblivion, they were 1000 and that's all that shows. NEW achievements were added with new DLC. and 2) This game was not either a commercial or critical success (though I happened to like it well enough). I think the likeliehood of seeing DLC that takes any significant additional effort at this point is nil.

The rule used to be "up to 1000 points", which is why there's a fair few older titles out there with a fair bit less than the full 1000 points  (Lotr, Condemned etc) .    A year or so back they changed the rule to be no less than 1000 points with the option to release DLC containing up to 250 more.   Halo 3 being an exception.

So the achievements should be achievable, and the full 1000 available without any further action, no updates or downloads.

You're right regarding the DLC i think, games that required updates to reach 1000 points (Crackdown springs to mind) would initially only show the available GS..    so when i reached 900/900 it was shown as so..  later on it was updated to 1250, so my GC shows 900/1250.

Re: SV: Re: SV: Re: SV: Re: 840/840 Club
Let's imagine for a second that this effectively IS an "older" title.

1. Say (for example) that the developers finished this game,  PLUS downloadable content in July 2007.
2. At that time, with the existing MS submission rules it went through certification, with a separate submission for the 2 x DLC levels.
3. Now imagine that Konami (grrrr) sat on the title until they could release it to coincide with the Hellboy 2 movie release.
4. Note: the Prima official game guide lists total achievement points at 840. Yes I own a copy of the Hellboy guide... I am that sad / dedicated. (Delete as appropriate).
5. Take it from me ladies & gentlemen, the 4 "missing" achievements all relate to the 2 levels of DLC (incl. 1 for using the "secret" character in co-op).
6. If anyone has dev access to PartnerNet - you'll see the DLC sat there. Unreleased to the general populace, unloved, abandoned by Konami. Grrr once again.
7. There is little "written word" around to substantiate my fervent belief in DLC... and you certainly shouldn't believe (most) things you read on t'internet.... but, check out the last paragraph in this article anyway:
http://www.australiangamer.com/preview/465_hellboy_science_of_evil.html
8. Will Konami ever release the 2x levels? Probably not.
9. So, with that, I'll sign off with another random grrrr

-snort-

Yeah, me too Embarrassed [:$]. I knew it only showed the 840, but took that as Konami not releasing the scoop on the extra 4, even to the press before they were discovered. The rest I've taken as unsubstantiated rumor. However, there is probably at least an equal chance that you're right.

The really sad thing is that had the game done better, I'm sure we'd have the DLC they definitely did plan and have queued up by now. I always thought it got a bad rap... I went in not expecting much. I don't pay attention to most blowhard reviewers... Those who can, code, those who can't grouse about other people's code. However, most of the people I know who played it thought it was total garbage and I seldom see a kind word written in forums.

For myself, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Though there were a few things I felt I had to "grind" on, that's true of any contemporary videogame (must be written in the game developer's bylaws). And the grinders on this one weren't that bad. Plus it is not even in the top 1000 of worst games ever, not even by the standards of a lot of stuff that is still releasing today. It has too much going well for that.

The thing is...this game probably would have either sold much more if it offered the full 1000 straight off the bat. However, since Konami has NO incentive whatsoever to release FREE content, they will probably not release it. This makes me sad. :( They should change it to 840/840 instead of 840/1000.

Keep in mind that content for Spider-man 3 didn't come out until a year after the game did. Now it was already out on the PS3 but still, anything is possible.
