FM2 Complete Install Method

This is from redesign, Turn 10 Community Ops, on the proper method for installing the extra cars if you've purchased the Forza Motorsport 2 Complete two-disc set:

"Here are some helpful tips to make your installation go smoothly.

"Once you load in the bonus content disc you will given the installation menu, here you can pick the specific packs you want to install. If you have already purchased DLC packs previously, then you do not want to re-install those packs. If you try to install previously purchased DLC you will run into some issues when booting the game.

"The best way to install the bonus disc is to remove all previously purchased DLC before you run the bonus disc. Here is how to delete previously purchased DLC:

"In the “System” blade of the dashboard select “Memory”.  From there select the device that holds the Forza 2 profile information (should be Hard Drive).  Then select “Games” and scroll down to “Forza Motorsport 2”.

"In this menu you will see all the game save files from this console. You want to delete only those items that say "Downloaded Content", do not delete anything else but those items. Once all the "Downloaded Content" has been deleted you can begin the installation of the content on the bonus disc."

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method

So, I'm going to have to lose all my Paints and Tunes for DLC if I want to add the cars I don't have?

Great.

Unless I can store them on the AH until the swap is done?

No you won't lose anything.  Did you read the information?  If you do the procedure as described, removing the files as it says, all you're doing is adding the download content you don't already have.  This doesn't replace any cars already in your Garage.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method

I read it but was suspecting that removal of download content would remove all forms of the DLC.

Once it's gone, it's gone but if the tune and paint for DLC is also somewhere else that won't get removed then it is all safe.

Which is what I get from what you just said, right?

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
Correct.  What the new files do is make the cars available through the dealerships.  It doesn't do anything with the garage.  I know a lot of people who won various cars through the contests over on the official Forza Motorsport 2 web site who have had no issues with the Complete version.  Just as with the DLC files, the cars must be purchased from the respective dealerships - they don't just magically appear in the Garage.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method

Good deal then.

I do have a good bit of time and credits wrapped up in some of the DLC cars.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
Yup.  I've bought all the DLC as they became available, and also have a couple cars from the racing with the Turn 10 Devs on Friday nights (except the third Friday each month when they have a team meeting).  Those are all in my Garage, and will be untouched IF I were to buy the Forza Motorsport Complete set.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method

Just a hint on something I found.

If you already have any FM3 DLC installed on your Xbox , via the marketplace or code, make absolutely certain to remove them (DELETE) them from your 360's HD BEFORE installing the DLC from the bonus disk. I inadvertantly installed one item 2x, it appeared as the same memory block twice and about a week later, XBL had shut down my 360.  It shows up as modding to them when 2 of the same memory block appears on the same 360 HD. I had to exchange the entire 360 unit to go online again.

GOTO XBOX360 Dashboard, last blade on right, Memory, Games, Forza Motorsport 2, scroll down until you see your DLC content (it appears red icon where all other memory appears gray), and DELETE ALL the RED blocks to be certain of proper installation of the bonus discs content.

Yes, all four of the LCE cars are there on the bonus disc. Smile [:)]

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
It is not necessary to delete everything from the storage location, but be very selective and accurate which check boxes you have picked before installing.  If you have two car packs, for instance, remove the check marks from those and then go ahead with the install from the disc.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
No, unicorn cars are not included.  Turn 10 puts those up on the Auction House every once in a while.  They're special cars which can only be bought on the Auction House or won in various contests Turn 10 sponsors (read the Pitpass Report).  They cannot be Gifted between players or sold by a regular player on the Auction House.

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
When you say "run into some issues when booting the game", does that include the game freezing when trying to view newly downloaded cars in the dealerships?

Re: FM2 Complete Install Method
Freezes in graphics (and Forza Motorsport 2 use a LOT) can be taken care of by doing a little Cache Maintenance as described in this Xbox Support article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907586/?sd=xbox  I regularly do it at least once a month, and also use the (X) button in the Garage to sort cars in a text-like listing which is very quick, offers 31 search criteria and can help you pinpoint a car in just a matter of seconds without a bunch of scrolling.

Oh, and when the NXE LIVE setup came out, I installed the game fully (Forza Motorsport 2 Complete Platinum two-disc set) to the hard drive, later using the free Microsoft Migration Kit when I went to a 120GB hard drive, and play off the hard drive just fine.
