i cant make it through ravenholm because the game freezes and frames drop incredibly low.

Re: Laggy-ness and bad graphics due to 360 usage?
it was like that on the original xbox too because they just barely ported such a high tech game onto the xbox. Thank god thier making a 360 version with the episodes, portal, and Team Fortress 2. It'll run just as smooth as the Pc version. The game was always extremely laggy and had terrible framerate on the original xbox.

Hmmm... the game's framerate does drop... but never to the point where it's unplayable.

Yep, im getting the same problem. I got passed ravenholm fine but when u'r up against alot of people its hard because the framerate drops alot.

Has any played Half-Life 2 on an HDTV? I have a 56" 1080p tv and when I play half-life 2 is looks dreadful. Im not sure if I have to put the display at 480p and off of widescreen. Its stretches it pretty bad.

Yeah I doubt the compatibility is good with the original Xbox HL2. Just wait until the 360 version. AMAZING graphics, better than the PCs original due to the power of the 360, much less lag, and probably even more 360-friendly

It is what it is

No that's pretty much the game on the Xbox. I have noticed the framerate drops right after the load screen. Wait a moment then play.

It also has to do with the fact that the xbox version is downgraded from the PC version(regardless of what they say)so that might have to do with it. What people don't understand is that they think this is what it's like on the PC. Not even close. The PC version runs faster, looks better, and has more features like deathmatch and coop(created with custom maps and mods). If you guys don't want it to freeze then get the PC version, otherwise get a 360 and get The Orange Box October 10.

back when i had a pc that could run it i remember thinking halo 2 was garbage and played half life 2 all day. of course its been a long time since ive been able to play it (because of intel GMA bullcrap) so that debate is over i guess...

Speaking about that Intel GMA thing, it sucks that my laptop has the stupid intel cards and will barely start the games. But once the games starts I get about 20-30 fps. Except in Episode 2. That game was extremely cruel to my laptop.

Oh and for all the people complaining about the game getting such "low framerates" on the original Xbox. I played through the whole thing and never thought they were that bad. If you want to see "low framerate" try beating that final battle of episode two with only getting 5 fps. You know the part when all the striders are attacking the base. "If you've gotten that far, it will make sense."

But all the mods for the PC version are awesome. Has anyone else here played Garry's Mod? Version 9 or 10?

Re: Laggy-ness and bad graphics due to 360 usage?
The original XBox version was a rather poor port and the game was incredibly processor heavy due to the physics and it was beyond what the original XBox was really capable of. Most PC's that met the "Minimum Requirements" could barely run Half-Life2 at stable framerates which is basically what the original XBox was, a low-end PC. --- I managed to get HL2 to run on my PC with about 50-60fps by upping to 1GB of RAM (originally 256MBs) and upgrading from an old GeForce4 to a GeForce FX 5700 ULTRA and I could pump the graphics up to max without any framerate issues.
