Hello,
A lot of people have Xbox 360 related Warranty questions. Just a small recap to give you the highlights and the different URL's where you can find the information.
What is the standard warranty on an Xbox 360?
The standard warranty in most countries is a one-year warranty. In certain countries (mostly in Europe) this is a standard two-year warranty by law.
You can get a general overview of the warranty on http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/warranty.htm or in the booklet included
with your console (in specific countries warranty conditions may vary slightly so check your local xbox.com website).
What's that whole extension on the warranty?
The three flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console. The root cause of the issue may vary. Before calling your local Xbox Customer Service make sure you check the forums for troubleshooting tips or the following website: http://support.microsoft.com/ or http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/
Microsoft has extended the terms of its Xbox 360 warranty to three years for
certain general hardware failures which are indicated by three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and existing customers.
[UPDATE BELOW: e74 also covered by extension]
The team is aware that a very small percentage of our Xbox 360 customers have reported receiving an error that displays E74 on their screen and after investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As such, we will be covering any repairs due to the E74 error message under the three year warranty we announced related to the three flashing lights error, as well as reimbursing any customers that have already paid for an E74 related repair. This applies to new consoles for the original retail purchaser, whether purchased before or after this change. You can read additional information on the warranty extension on the Xbox.com support site.
So my Xbox 360 got repaired, what's my warranty now?
If Microsoft repairs your Xbox 360 within the original warranty period, you will receive either the balance of your original warranty, or 90 days, whichever is longer. In addition, Microsoft will pay for the shipping both ways.
If Microsoft repairs your Xbox 360 after the warranty period has expired, while you will be responsible for the repair costs, you will receive either the balance of your original warranty (if it has not yet expired for all conditions), or one year, whichever is longer.
The three flashing red lights warranty extension remains applicable.
If you have further questions about this, the xbox.com forums and your local Xbox Customer Service are the best way to go.
What may cause warranty issues?
