Xbox Live Team Play Tips & Strategies - by Rebel Razor 360

Xbox Live Team Play FAQ

By Rebel Razer 360

Good Communication is the key to the best Team Play experiences on Xbox Live...There is nothing more satisfying than winning a game where people worked as a team. Whether it's direct dialog with a person or communicating through the 360 feedback system, These are the key elements that make for good communication:
  • Teamwork
  • Team Strategies
  • Call for Help
  • Non Participation
  • Leadership
  • Free and Ranked Games
  • Good and Bad Players
  • Trash Talk

Teamwork

  • Play with Friends whenever possible... You will always have the best experience. You can send an invite from your friends list as its always available.
  • Establish a basic strategy... I.e. 2 people Sneak around back
  • Communicate your roles... I.e. Declare if your attacking or defending. If someone doesn't say what they are doing ask them.
  • Counter attacks... On the fly deal with an attack like routing a flag runner before they return to their base.
  • Say what you do, Do what you say... Don't say you'll defend and go on the offense.
  • Get Satisfaction... by working together.
  • Show Respect... If you work well with another player that perhaps you don't know, you develop some respect... This can develop in to a friendship... See the section below on Good and Bad Players

Team Strategies

  • Scope... Team strategies are huge and go way beyond the scope of this thread... However a few gems that are universal follow:
  • Be the best you can be... by knowing your game thoroughly you become a live team strategist.
  • Offer help to less experienced players... Even the best started as n00bs.
  • Know the best starting weapons... for the map and game type. Share that knowledge with others on your team.
  • Learn from your opponent and adapt early... Do they flank you... Are they campers... Are they focused on attacking.. Do they run in packs... Only the best of gamers Mix up their game to throw you off. The majority of gamers repeat old habits... and that makes them predictable... and conquerable.

Status Updates

  • Declare locations... Let others know where things are happening... If you have a compass say things like they are escaping to the North... or they are by the tank... Or I am by their flag.
  • Share activities... Update others on what the enemy is doing... or what you are doing...
  • Support... Back up another players effort... when they tell you what they are doing.
  • Keep others updated... on key elements as the game changes... And it usually will.

Call for Help

  • When you're attacked... Call for backup
  • When you want to attack... and you can use some assistance.
  • When you see your flag etc is about to be attacked... Call for help... and suggest a plan to counter their attack.

Non Participation

  • No Headset... While this is possible for the serious gamer it's unconceivable that you would have so much invested and lack a $30 item. It is a choice some people make to game with out one. And it is their right.
  • Timid, Shy or new to the whole idea... Some people are uncomfortable talking to others... and feel content to participate quietly... Just because someone chooses not to talk does not mean they don't listen. In many cases these people will follow an assigned objective if asked politely.
  • In Private Chat... The 360 allows for private chat. This in many way could be a problem. While 2 team mates have uninterrupted communiqué others on the same team are cut off and it appears to them like you have no communicator. If your in a 2 vs. 2 game by all means private chat is better. But it can be really frustrating to have team mates that ignore you and do their own thing. Be considerate of others... If your in private chat and there is a team expecting your support... please rejoin the game channel during each session when appropriate.

Leadership

  • Every Team can use a leader... If a leader emerges go with the flow.
  • The Host... The host of a game will many times be a leader.
  • Self appointed leaders... This may be a more assertive player. again it's better to have a leader... than each person doing their own thing.
  • Mistakes... Everyone can make a few... When some continually screws up, A good leader should chew them out.

Free and Ranked Games

  • Free Games... are purely for fun... As such one should not get too serious over free a game. That includes Bad Players that might just feel like messing around, or they are new to the game.
  • Ranked Games... are for Status... And such only those serious about good team work should consider playing these games. If someone negatively contributes to your teams loss... they deserve negative feedback as a Bad Player.

Good and Bad Players

  • After the game... Let Good Players know you had a good experience... offer kudos'... Let them know you plan to give them Preferred Player status... many times they offer that back. And deal with Bad Players per the section above.
  • Prefer A Player... The 360 offers the fantastic Prefer a Player tool... This boost the players Star Status... It's a perk for them. Also the 360 will match you up automatically with those you have marked as a Preferred Player.
  • Send an invite... to anyone you recently played with... They do not have to be a friend... Many times this is the first step in earning true friend ship rights. Usually if you just got out of a great game they will accept.
  • Friend Requests... When you really like someone send a friend request.
  • Become a friends of a friend... Sometimes they become your friends too.
  • Bad Players... Keeping in mind Free and Ranked Games... Apply appropriate feedback accordingly... nothing more... nothing less... The 360's new feedback system helps all users have a better experience... So use it and it will help you. Contrary to how you feel don't say anything to the Bad Player as they will most likely leave negative feedback against you.
  • Noise Makers... These are the ones that from the moment they get in the lobby till the game is over deserve to be muted... Please leave appropriate feedback for them.

Trash Talk

  • Talking Trash is an Art form... If done right it really adds to the challenge of the game... There actually is such a thing as Good Trash Talk... It is made of witty rebuttals with opponents that are appropriate to the situation at hand.
  • Trash Talk is going to happen... Get used to it... Just make sure you do it right... Do not violate the Xbox Live Code Of Conduct.
  • Bad Examples... are swearing, harassing, slandering, racial slurs etc... and anything that violates the Xbox Live Code Of Conduct.
  • Don't Start It... You risk encountering a fool.
  • Leave fools alone... Don't engage them as there is never anything to gain from it.
  • Use Feedback as needed... When someone steps over the line use the feedback system appropriately.
