It is a Japanese board game that is very similar to chess. I got the game when it was available on the Japanese marketplace, and have put many hours into it.

 

Although the rules and moves are similar to chess, you have to play completely different, as pieces can be reentered onto the board. Also, Shogi uses a 9x9 if I am not mistaken.

 

There is a very informative tutorial in the game, but it takes well over an hour to complete.

I've been waiting for a good shogi game I could play. I've taught several coworkers and have been playing at lunch. This is very exciting...

anybody know if there will be others types in this game, as in the board size such as micro shogi, yari shogi, tai shogi, etc...or is this just limited to the 9x9 board?

It depends on your time settings.   The wikipedia page lists the typical timeframe for a game of shogi as 1-2 hours:

But I'd venture to say that most games over the Internet will take less than an hour.

I'm thinking bout buying this game,but first i would like to learn if its worth it. Second if i didn't get all of it from the tourorial would any of you halp me. Third do you think others would like it cause i'm founder of a arcade clan (CAG check it out on myspace).

You will definitely get enough knowledge to be able to play from the tutorial.  To be good, however, is still a mystery to me.  I've been through the tutorial, played a lot, started reading books, and I still get crushed by the lowest level AI personality.

Shogi is a real real difficult game.  Highly recommended.
