While we're sure you've already constructed your Scrooge McDuck-esque pool of golden, nefariously-obtained Fable II Pub Games earnings, Peter Molyneux might be preparing to pull off the biggest gamer prank since the anti-Spore Rick Roll.

According to a quick blurb in IGN's Fable II preview, "Just be warned. Molyneux has said that the cheat was no accident and that those who used it to earn their money will be in for a surprise." Something tells us that "surprise" isn't being filthy rich in-game. Is he bluffing? We'll find out soon enough when our sea of coins is quickly drained from under us. Fable 2 is due out October 21.

Now that's what i call gambling, i'll be intrigued to see if it results in an all or nothing outcome.

I think it is interesting they are taking this approach, but I do not believe for a second that this was planned from the beginning. This is a reactionary method they are taking to an unforseen glitch.

Thankfully, I wanted to be in debt to see how that scenario plays out, so it won't effect me if it is a harsh penalty.

I think that he is bluffing. But on second thought, they haven't released a patch for it yet. So I don't really know.

It's possible that the glitch was planned all along as well as a delayed patch. We'll never know whether or not it was truely intentional. Regardless of any public statements made by Lionhead some will always believe that it was a true glitch while others will believe it was done on purpose. It will be interesting to see if there are any consequences to cheating at pub games. I'm sure I'm not the only one who hopes there are.

Didn't know about any glitch, didn't use a glitch, and didn't cheat, I did not have a large sum of money in the tower game but what I had is gone and I'm , as far as I'm concerned I was ripped off and as for Fable 2 when it comes out they can rot on the shelves.

What I'll be interested to see is how many copies of the game are returned to stores with 7 day return policies due to the "surprise".

If they do anything to your character that makes you start worse off than normal, then I could see a lot of Fable 2's being returned.

I just don't understand why none of my friends some who had hundreds of thousands of gold in the game were unaffected, they say the glitch was only a single button push to cheat money, I only had 30k and I'm sure I didn't see any extra money pop up other than the winnings from the tournament's I played. So now I get labeled a cheat and striped of my" lifetime tournaments winnings for all games"and for the tower game tournaments as well.

it's completely up to you to merge your main character with the one you used in the pub games whether you cheated with your pub char. or not. i haven't downloaded the patch yet so i'm planning on making a cheater char. just to see what the consequences are, if any.

If it was intentional wouldnt he have left it in there? Why patch it all of the sudden? Doesn't really make any sense.

You're joking, right? Why would any game developer go through all that trouble for a $10 game? To make a patch requires extra work from individuals who get paid by the hour to make games. Why would Scaleform pay extra to patch a game when they could have made it legit and saved a few hundred dollars? Financially, the highlighted theory makes no sence.

Oct 23, 2008 E74 After playing Fable 2 for 8 hrs.

It could easily makes sense financially if you think out of the box a little. If you heard that a "companion" game for another game came out, but was incredibly difficult to earn gold wouldn't you consider not wasting your money on it. Then you hear that a glitch has been found that would allow you to make gold extremely easy it might change your mind about buying it. I'd be surprised if a lot more copies of the game were downloaded due to this glitch. At the same time, this game was packaged with the limited edition (aka free to d/l), so it's not completely about making money. If anything it should probably be considered more of a creative advertising campaign. The idea of a compainion game is pretty inovative and the glitch has only brought more attention to pub games and by extension fable 2 as well.

Well in the end i think that there should be a gambling cheat in pub games or in FableII. In Fable u can become evil but no, no u must not cheat in pub games? Hmmm...maybe when the game comes out they will have an intentional gambling cheat. a cheat that randomly allows u to get caught, maybe taken out of the pub and idk have your kneecaps broken?, thumb screws?, fingers busted?... lol sry I got carried away. anywho(and yes i ment anywho not anyhow^^) gambling cheat with consequences and repercussions=more excitement

I have a logical explanation of everything that has happened. The patch took a while to make so Lionhead started a rumour that it was intentional in an effort to stop people using the glitch while they were developing the patch. They will keep the rumour up until the game comes out and then there will be no effect on people who used the glitch. But that is only a theory. I might be wrong.

The leaderboards were already reset for Fortune's Tower.

Why patch something intentional.

PM probably just said this to stop people glitching the game went gold a long time ago. So they wouldnt have changed the code to include something bad to happen.

Thanks for the update, I'm travelling for work so I can't even game right now.  :( 

I guess that verifies the punishment will continue into the game.  In the end it really doesn't matter.  Those who just wanted to play will soon forget all this drama.  And those who cheated hopefully will learn "something" but I doubt it. 

I just hope co-op play has and will benefit from Lionhead's attention to this.  Whether or not it was a trap or a real glitch has no bearing and thankfully, is being dealt with.

It's weird, I mean the glitch is the only way I can make ANY money at all. It's like the pub games are designed simply to wipe out your character. Period. I mean, without cheating, I'm up like a measley 10 and it gives me fifty bad hands in a row every time. I mean it's more than bad luck.It's like it's designed into the game. Isn't this the glitch they should be fixing?

Sorry for the double here... I've heard about the glitch, tried it out to see if it works. After earning about 4K, I reset my character. Never used it again..... So is this going to *** me? I'm just hoping this is one of Molyneux's famous little bluffs, you know, like all the promises he made with the first fable that turned out to be not so true....
