pgr2 on 360 - is gold membership necessary?

currently i don't have silver membership of xbox live.

when playing pgr2 on my xbox 360 i can only play arcade racing and instant action but not the kudos world series (completion of which is necessary to unlock tracks and vehicles?)

when i try, i get the message 'not signed in to xbox live' and when i try to sign in i get the message 'not all required xbox live services are currently available'

but the game does recognise my account if i want to purchase the longbeach and paris downloads

i am using a wireless controller

Don't sign in before playing PGR2.  In other words if you are signed in on the 360 dash, sign out then start up PGR2.  Then pick your Gold account from the PGR2 menu.

If that does not work, try to  play without signing in at all.... original Xbox games do not require you to sign in to play them, your gamesave is not dependent on Live.

A cache clear may help also.

To make a long story short, you don't need any memership at all to play the single player of PGR2.

The only reason you sign in during single player (signing in is optional) is for updating your scores on the leaderboards.... for which you would need a Gold account.

Like I said, your offline and online profile are separate for original Xbox games.
