It isn't hard as such but yet it still has a remarkable ability to grind you down until you reach the point of suicide. I can't put my finger on why though...

Re: is this game hard
I don't remembere if there was an ingame save feature other then at the end of each stage......but yes.......it is fun as heck but also a bit tideous and frustrating when you have to do the same thing over and over again cause you keep messing up.

Is it hard though???? Some areas may be but it really is fun.

i don't know of any cheats or glitches for this game on XBLA, and i'm about halfway through the game, i'm a big fan of the ecco series and i've played for around 1.5 - 2 hours on this game. it gets complicated on some levels. the save function really helps though, to be honest, you have to be a fan of this game if your gonna stick it out and beat the game, it frustrates a lot of people becuase of its complexity.

Re: is this game hard

This version is my first time playing Ecco and I think its quite difficult.  Thankfully the awesome music makes it fun.

Re: is this game hard

The first of the two bosses can cause you to hurl your controller through your TV. And the last 2 levels are difficult, however the save feature makes it a lot easier.

Other than that it's really fun and not too terribly difficult

And if you don't know what you are doing your first time through, like me, the game will take a while...my gameplay went up to 4 hours on my first run (and that doesn't include all the restarting I did after dying). But if you know what you're doing, you'll beat it in about an hour and be ranked 25 like meBig Smile [:D]

or you can beat the game in 36 minutes like me and be rank 3 like me lol but yeah the game is rather difficult, and the achievements without saves are a 10/10 on the difficulty scale.

The Machine will break you. Otherwise, Ecco is challenging but in a playable, pretty fair way... that is, until you reach The Machine. You'll have memorized that password by heart by the time you complete that stage.

Ecco the Dolphin is one of the hardest games I have ever played on Genesis, I can only assume its exactly the same on XBLA.

How can you say that when the original Genesis game itself issued passwords for every level?

with saves you don't have to repeat the whole level if youre smart, you can save ANYWHERE, making the machine a *** of a lot easier, passwords only enable to the start of the level i believe.

Re: is this game hard
I'm going on what I remember from the megadrive game (I've only played up to The Lagoon on the 360 so far), I assume this version is exactly the same.

These are the levels that may encourage you to rip out your hair, although the save feature should make it somewhat easier:

Hard Water
Deep City
City of Forever (you have to play this level twice, although there is a very quick and easy method)
Trilobite Circle
Dark Water (my personal least favorite level due to the difficulty)
The Tube
The Machine
Last Fight

Most of the other levels are challenging but not too hard.

4 / / Itchy. Tasty.
