CoD:WaW Multiplayer FAQ [v2]

Welcome, this thread contains an FAQ/Guide for Call of Duty: World at War's Multiplayer portion, and the statistics for all of the weapons, explosives and perks. I've also added information on tanks, the knife and Prestige Mode as they are brought up often. I hope you find good use in this compilation. :)

1. Welcome

Hello and welcome to the CoD:WaW Multiplayer FAQ, including in-game weapon statistics. Hopefully this will help you find any information you need to know about the online portion of the game and more. This guide will most likely be expanded on over time to provide more info. Enjoy. :)


2. Ranks and XP


The ranking system in Call of Duty: World at War is a persistent system which requires kills, challenges beaten, assists, objectives taken, and challenges on co-op campaign.

There are 65 levels in Call of Duty: World at War (for Prestige info, see part 8), each time you get a promotion, you either receive an unlock, or receive some XP.

Ways to gain XP:

  • Kill
    • 50 points in Search and Destroy
    • 10 points in Sabotage, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag
    • 5 points in Free-For-All, Domination, War and Headquarters
  • Assist:
    • 25 points in Search and Destroy
    • 2-8 points in Sabotage, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag
    • 1-4 points in Free-For-All, Domination, War and Headquarters
  • Complete objective:
    • 15 points for flag capture in Domination or War
    • 100 points for planting/defusing bomb in Search and Destroy
    • 100 points for capturing flag in CTF
    • 15 points for being the first to destroy the HQ
    • 15 points for capturing HQ + 5 points for every 5 seconds it's held
    • 15 points for defusing Sabotage bomb
...and so on.

3. Challenges

Challenges are back and use the same system as Call of Duty 4. When a challenge is complete, you will receive XP, except for weapon Marksman challenges, which awards you with weapon attachments. Challenges are unlocked at Level 5.

Marksman challenges may award you with attachments like the Aperture Sight, Telescopic Sight, Rifle Grenade, Extra Munitions, Sniper Scope or Bayonet. Certain weapons allow certain attachments.

4. Game Modes


Game Modes in CoD:WaW MP are split into Core and Hardcore. Hardcore modes are a variation of Core, though player health is lowered from 100 to 30 and there is no HUD.

Core Playlist:
  • Boot Camp
    • Locked at Level 8.
    • Team Deathmatch for beginners on all maps.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Team Deathmatch
    • Straight up Team Deathmatch on all maps. Use teamwork to kill enemy players and reach the score limit (750)
    • 6-12 Players
  • Free For All
    • Straight up Deathmatch. Every man for himself. Kill everyone. Small maps. Up to 150 points (30 kills)
    • 4-8 Players
  • War
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • Capture battlefield command points one at a time. Secure and hold all positions to achieve victory.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Ground War
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • 18 player War and Team Deathmatch (1000 for TDM)
    • 8-18 Players
  • Capture the Flag
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • Get the enemy flag and return it to your base. (2 rounds, first to 3 flag captures per round, most flag captures at the end of 2 rounds wins)
    • 6-12 Players
  • Search and Destroy
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • Defend and destroy the objective. No respawning. No vehicles. Best of 7 rounds.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Headquarters
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • A neutral base to capture is marked in the level. Capture and hold it to gain points. The team that holds the HQ doesn't respawn. Up to 250 points.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Domination
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • 3 flags in the level must be captured. Your team gets points for having control of a flag. The more flags your team holds, the more points you gain. Up to 200 points.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Sabotage
    • Unlocked at Level 14
    • A neutral bomb is in the center of the level and teams fight to destroy the enemy team's objective. First team to successfully bomb the enemy objective wins.
    • 6-12 Players
  • Veteran
    • Unlocked at Level 29
    • Team Deathmatch for experienced players only.
    • 6-12 Players
Hardcore Playlist: [Unlocked at Level 18]
  • Team Deathmatch
    • Team Deathmatch with limited HUD, extra bullet damage, friendly fire on.
    • 6-12 Players
  • War
    • Limited HUD. Extra bullet damage. Wave spawning delay. Friendly fire on.
    • 8-18 players.
  • Search and Destroy
    • Limited HUD. Extra bullet damage. No vehicles. Friendly fire on.
    • 6-12 players.
  • Free For All
    • Small maps. Every man for himself. Limited HUD. Extra bullet damage. No health regeneration.
    • 4-8 players.
NOTE: Once game modes are unlocked, they stay unlocked, even if you enter Prestige Mode.



5. Classes

One of the best things about CoD:WaW is the freedom of the create-a-class system [unlocked at Level 4] which allows you to choose a weapon, sidearm, and 4 perks of your choice from the categories given.

Create-A-Class:

You unlock Create-A-Class at Level 4. With create a class, you start off with 5 renameable custom slots in which you can choose a weapon (and attachment), sidearm, perks and explosives. For all of the weapons and perks, refer to section 6 and 7.

6. Maps

NOTE: Certain maps don't show up in certain playlists. Huge maps like Downfall and Seelow don't appear in Free For All, for example. Also, certain game modes don't include vehicles, like Search and Destroy and Free For All.

7. Weapons and Explosives

Basic Information:
  • Stock Player health is 100.
    • In Hardcore, stock player health is 30.

  • Hardcore has lower health, no HUD and team killing is enabled.

  • Guns lose damage over a certain amount of range.
    • If you refer to sections 7-10, you'll notice damages are labled [Number-Number], the dash indicates the range from highest to lowest damage the weapon can inflict.

  • Each weapon (except shotguns) has a damage multiplier. Damage multiplier is divided into hitting different body parts: Head, neck, upper torso, lower torso and limbs.
    • With all weapons but snipers, the damage multiplier for hitting an enemy in any part of the body BUT the head is x1.0. This means no extra damage is added. With all weapons but snipers, if you shoot an enemy in the head, it will inflict x1.4 or x1.5 more damage against the enemy.
    • WITH snipers, damage multiplier is much more varied. Whether you hit your enemy in the head, neck, torso, stomach or limbs could be the difference in a 1 shot kill or a 2 shot kill.

  • For example: If you have a PTRS-41 (70 damage stock, refer to section 7) and shoot an enemy in the head (70 * 1.5) you will inflict 105 damage, killing the enemy.

  • Stopping Power, Fireworks, Flak Jacket and Juggernaut are the only 3 perks that affect damage/health.
    • Stopping Power v. Juggernaut = A cancellation of both perks.

    • Player WITHOUT Stopping Power v. Juggernaut = Damage from weapons AND explosives reduced to 75% effectiveness.

    • Stopping Power v. player WITHOUT Juggernaut = Damage increased 40%.

    • Fireworks v. Flak Jacket = A cancellation of both perks.

    • Fireworks v. player WITHOUT Flak Jacket  = Explosive damage increased 25%.

9. Tank Information

Tanks are present on the following maps in CTF, HQ, TDM, War, Domination and Sabotage:
  • Downfall
  • Roundhouse
  • Seelow
  • Outskirts
Here is some basic information:
  • A tank has 1350 health.

  • All explosives except the frag grenade inflict more damage against tanks than against players with damage multipliers.

  • The multipliers for most explosives are as follows:
    • x1.0 for hitting the front
    • x1.2 for hitting the sides
    • x2.0 for hitting the back

  • The only exception is for the PTRS-41, which deals a much higher multiplier than anything else, but doesn't really make a difference as bullet damage minus the damage multiplier is a miniscule .5. The multipliers are as follows:
    • x12.5 for hitting the front [6.25 Damage]
    • x15 for hitting the sides [7.5 Damage]
    • x25 for hitting the back [12.5 Damage]

  • The satchel charge when detonated directly below the belly of the tank is a one detonation kill.

  • The turret always deals a 2 hit kill, unless the enemy has Juggernaut.
Versus Tank Stats:
  • Satchel Charge
    • 200 x 1.5 = 300 Damage
    • One detonation below tank = kill.
  • No. 74 ST
    • 2.49 x 1.35 = 336 Damage
  • Bouncing Betty
    • 200 x 1.25 = 225 Damage
  • M19A1 Bazooka
    • 200 x 1.2 = 220 Damage
  • Rifle Grenade
    • 150 x 1.2 = 180 Damage
  • Frag Grenade
    • 300 x .2 = 60 Damage
  • Firearms
    • .5 Damage
    • Use explosives, don't waste ammo.
Tank Weapon Stats:
  • Cannon (Turret)
    • 300 Direct Damage
    • 200-30 Range
  • Machine Gun

10. Melee Info

Pretty simple. There is the knife and the bayonet, and there are the slash attacks, and stab/charge.
  • Knife
    • 135 Damage
    • 64 Range Attack
    • 128 Range Stab
  • Bayonet
    • 135 Damage
    • 85 Range Attack
    • 200 Range Stab
11. Prestige Mode

Once you reach 153950 XP (Level 65 + Extra) you unlock Prestige Mode. What happens when you enter Prestige:
  • You lose all of your unlocked weapons
  • You lose all of your unlocked attachments
  • You lose all of your unlocked challenges
  • You start back at Level 1
  • You keep your unlocked Game Modes
  • You keep your unlocked Clan Tag
You can enter Prestige 10 times, and for each time, there are different symbols:

There are also 2 zero point achievements, one for reaching 1st Prestige and another for reaching 10th, both of which include a gamerpicture.

12. Stat Tracking and Linking

The folks at Treyarch have implemented a stat tracking system on http://www.callofduty.com which you can view your MP stats, more in-depth than what the barracks show. Keep in mind this is a beta version of the stat tracker.

Quick question.


So Type 100 technically is a better gun than a Thompson because it has larger round?? And they have the same stats all around.


But I could have sworn that Type 100 accuracy or recoil is worst than the Thompson. Is there stats that indicates recoil or accuracy?

They can jump REALLY high as well. One time when I was on Cliffside our team had dogs called in on us. I watched in disbelief as a dog jumped as high as one of the Japanese statues in order to kill a teammate. I swear, if this was in real life that dog would have jumped eight feet STRAIGHT up in the air. It was CRAZY! In addition to being bulletproof they apparently have super powers as well...friggin damn dogs!!!
