Re: Opinions?
I'm really digging it. Very interesting visuals and sound, its like you're looking through a microscope. My biggest gripe with Geometry Wars (and what kept me from buying part 2) was the ripple effect that followed all of your shots, making it hard to see what was going on when the screen started getting filled with enemies. Bullets are all distinct and everything is easy to follow in PowerUp Forever. Only got to play an hour or so this morning (have to go to sleep ;_;), but things get hectic quickly.

Very groovy game imo, give the trial a shot if nothing else.

The best thread for XBLA news and discussion

How does the game progress like after the trial period is over??

I heard 1up talking about them playing on it for a short while and they were saying they wern't sure if there was much more variety after 10 minutes or so.

Re: Opinions?

To be honest, I tried out the demo and I don't think this game is that great. Just alot of hype and no substance. It's alot like Geometry Wars in terms of style and control. Yet I found myself bored of this game after five minutes. This game is not worth the 800 point asking price.

In my opinion the game gets better in the time after the demo.  If you like this style of shooter then it's worth the 800 points.

seems you arent really into this genre.  The game is action packed, how can you get bored?  Considering that normal doesnt get any harder, i can see the game becoming boring, but then the same could be said for the 1st geometry wars.  Overall the game is pretty solid.  With all the other modes it warrants the 10 dollars.

Re: Opinions?
I find the game quite fun, and hard.  Hardcore mode is a desperate fight for survival, to the point where I'm actually relieved when the Guardian shows up (meaning the onslaught of regular enemies slows down). Smile [:)]  Normal isn't too bad once you get used to it, but I tend to lose focus after a while, and as soon as I lose track of my life bar I die. Crying [:'(]

My main complaint is that I really wish the electric pulse fired just once when you pushed the button, instead of being a toggle.  It's annoying having to constantly double-click it.  And does anyone find the laser useful?  I don't; energy is much better used on Smart Bombs or electric pulses.

Oh, and the Grand Master achievement is lame. Angry [:@]

Great game.........

The demo does not do it justice.

It gets better and better, lots of enemies, lots of colour, lots of fun.

Think of it as Geometry Wars Evolved meets the Metroid Prime intro screen.

Re: Opinions?

I agree, the trial doesn't do it any justice really. It is pretty much the same but things get pretty full on with weapon upgrades and many. many more aliens on screen. I love the visuals as well. This really is a score fest game, just like Geometry Wars, you play to beat your high score..

Considering that it's a shooter, it fills it's roll quite adequately. The graphics are colorful, the sound effects fit and the price is nice. The pace can be quite hectic at times, or maybe it's just me. Stick out tongue [:P]

Shooters, they're all about shooting, blowing things up and trying to stay alive to do it over and over again to rack up the highest score one is able to achieve. Smile [:)]

If you like this game, you may also want to try ReZ HD........

It is a different syle of shooter than this but it is probably the best shooter on the marketplace.

It has eqaully striking visuals and good use of music.

PowerUp Forever and ReZ HD are my 2 favourite shooters.

I love it. XBLA still needs more two stick shooters! I can't get enough of em :)

Re: Opinions?
Great game. As said, visuals are amazing with the swirls and fire effects. It's great to see how what looked gigantic at the beginning gradually get smaller as the levels progress and comes 'alive'.

Music is pretty decent for a shooter as well. Matches the visuals I think.

I like the leaderboards, but I'm not too keen on the few bonus modes though. I've unlocked all but the last one and I hope that'll be good. But as they're bonus modes, this isn't no biggie. The arcade mode is great.

Snap -  Certain guardians are actually weak vs the laser.  I believe the red ones in general.

Re: Opinions?

my opinion is that it is a fun game and i am willing to say that even knowing i will never get 200/200 in this.

my only complaint would be the actual name of the game is as lame as they come.  i know it does describe the game in a way, but seriously.......you could have done a little better  with the name.

oh and i agree with snap....killing 1,000 of everything is a waste of time.  but atleast there wasnt 4 time wasting achievements i guess....

Yeah Snap, I always save my energy for smart bombs. I rarely use the other two secondary weapons. And yes, I agree that the grand master achievement is pretty lame.

Oh, sure.  Because you know what made Kasparov a Grand Master?  The fact that he had captured every type of chess piece at least 1,000 times.

I like the game. It reminds me of geometry wars mixed with the weird colors on mutant storm and the powering up of e4's revenge mode.

Yes, and mix in a bit of Spore™ (the single cell part, what you get when you start a new game from scratch) for the evolving and growing aspect and that sounds about right. Although this is at a much more frantic pace.

to me its a cross between Robotron and Space Giraffe which is a very high compliment.  Best game I've played since Age of Booty.  Arcade that is.

I'm actually a huge fan of this one. It's simple but fun. I'd best describe it as Geometry Wars mated with the iTunes Visualizer and this is the outcome. I like Shred Nebula too but hate the graphics, music and constant pop-up text.

Re: Opinions?
I really keep trying to get into this game. I love Geometry Wars, Mutant Storm, Biology Battle, and all the other dual-stick shooters out on the marketplace (except for Crystal Quest, yuck). Something about this game just seems...off though. Its hard to even describe. It just doesn't seem as satisfying blowing up enemies in this game as it does in all the others. Even when the guardians come running, I still don't feel very excited like I do during a massive wave in Geometry Wars or anything. The (imo) weak music doesn't help either. I want a shooter to be hectic, intense, loud noises and bright flashes... this seems so mellow and laid back.

I can't bring myself to delete the demo, but I can't bring myself to buy it either. Hmm...

Happy Holidays!

Betreff: Re: Opinions?
One of the worst games I ever bought. Why? Its just too hectic. There are no phases without a small pause. If you want to rebuild your shield, there will enter dozens of enemies your screen. No way, at least for me. After level 5 normal mode its game over. The whole gamebalancing seems to me a bit rubbish too. Why killing the guards to get a better weapon, if the enemies in the next level are gaining the same strength as you get yourself with that new weapon? lol. There are so much of these rounds things sometimes. If you move toward the screen borders they move in like with rockets, there is no way to avoid them. But you have to move fast to keep your multiplier up. But the question is: From where do they come? If you move back and forth a bit, they just seem to appear randomly, even if youi killed them just a second ago in that part of the screen. The boss fights are boring too. If there wouldnt be such round things, there would be nearby no work - just fly around and direct the right thumbstick otherwise. Well. Thats called gameplay I guess. The sound effects are very decent. The Music is lame. I dont see where this soundtrack is cool or fascinating. Its just something to sleep. The only fine thing is indeed the graphic. Nice colour swappings, like a fluid painting. Well, after all: Its unnecessary to have on your HDD. IMO! Ah, and why its not possible to disable the hud? Specially when moving up or down? Oh my dear... Greetings. -Lohengriehn

I just thought the game was just weird. Weird visuals and one bullshit achievement to make you play a weird game for 25 hours. Weird weird weird!
