PowerUp Forever is much better than Rez HD in my opinion. I would rate Rez HD a 6.5 or a 7 to be honest.

I rate PowerUP Forever, 8.5 to 9/10.

I rate ReZ HD, 9 to 10/10.

Although they are completely different games, they do share the desire to be different from other games within their respective genres, so in that respect they are the same.

Both are unique and groundbreaking in their own right.

i rate it a 9.5 overall.

it is easily my favorite duel stick shooter on the arcade.  better that both geometry wars, mutant storms, undertow, crystal quest, etc....etc.....

it doesnt ever get out of hand hard instantly.  the difficulty gradually gets harder each level.  the extra modes has something for everyone.  achievements can be done on any difficulty setting.  it is just a damn good game.

the only complaints i have for this one are:
1 the achievement for killing 1000 of everything
2 sometimes the boss will run right into you and sort of get hooked to you killing you instantly
3 as all games, there is some very unfortunate spawns sometimes,  i had a situation where there were 4 hydras on the screen surrounding me at one time.
and 4 there are a few (very few) levels where the look of the game changes to a psychedelic style making it hard for people with poor vision (myself).  there is one where it looks like things bleed in the water and when you shoot them they explode in blood but you cant really tell if something is still hiding in that pool of blood.  i noticed i was squinting even with my glasses on through the entire level, trying to see if i was missing something.  could have done without that.  but they show up maybe once every ten levels, so it really isnt too much of a factor. 

overall, i am very happy with this one and glad to see a great game on XBLA.  we havent had a decent one in a few months, so this one stands out alot.

Yeah level 5 can make your eyes water a bit...........

Yellow/orange with red vapour trails and red enemies, that is the only level that is so vivid.

This is really a gem. The game ist very well balanced and the rules of the game are perfect. Like Printmatic wrote: "it doesnt ever get out of hand hard instantly.  the difficulty gradually gets harder each level." Its the flow of the game that makes it fair and (although it can be really hard) relaxing.

GeoWars is a great game, but also very frustrating. You have to be very patient and one mistake will destroy a perfect run. PowerUp is more forgiving.

+ Graphics and sounds are beatiful.

Its always tough to rate a downloadable game.  I think the game is good.  The concept is refreshing and new.  The gameplay is solid and responsive, but boss battles are lacking.  The game looks decent once again for a digital download.  But, unfortunately, with most arena shooters there is always something that gets boring and after playing for an hour or more it begins to get boring once one learns the mechanics and tendencies of a game.  The extra game modes are a plus and more companies should think about doing this. 

Overall id give the game a 7.5-8.

In regards to achievements, how hard are they?

I understand the Grand Master achievement will obviously take a while, but are the other achievements difficult?

they arent that hard at all.  the only hard one is score 10 mill and it can be done fairly easy once you learn how the game works.  i thought it would be difficult but i earned it with not too many problems.

whatever wise a.ss........don't be mad at me since i shattered your score on battlezone!  i cant help it that when i pick up a controller, only great things happen. 

and yes......if i can do it, most people can.  i am very "average" at alot of games.
