Official Artech Studio's Guide To Repairing Aces of The Galaxy
I went through two hours of Microsoft phone support and three representatives, before deciding to finally email Artech Studio's (the developer).  Below is the email detailing the "official" method to fixing Aces of The Galaxy's controller not responding bug.  This problem is purely DRM (digital rights management) related.  I have placed in bold text, the part that helped me the most, please note that I had not attempted the troubleshooting guide that was provided in the bullets within the first section of this email.  I suggest you skip to the bolded text for your first attempt, since, it will resolve the issue straight away. See below:

This issue has been brought to our attention a couple of times.  It did not occur during testing at Sierra however, and we have not been able to reproduce it in-house.
In the reports we have seen, the common thread is that it seems to occur on repaired consoles, though rarely.

To narrow down the problem, you may wish to try the following:

- try the game with no other controllers connected to the 360, including Guitar Hero controllers, etc
- Try copying the game on a memory card or friend's hard drive attached to your 360 to see if the issue is still reproduceable on your console.
- Try playing via a guest profile

We have had the following report from a user that may be helpful:
After experiencing this issue, they contacted Xbox support who believed it to be caused by a DRM related-problem.  They resolved the problem by re-downloading the license for their console.  They then reported that the issue no longer occurred.  This may require transferring your license over using Microsoft's online license transfer tool first, deleting and re-downloading the game via the download history on the console.  This will be particularly applicable if you have had your console repaired or have changed your GamerTag.

We certainly appreciate the difficulties you have had getting it resolved via Xbox technical support.  I would suggest that when you contact them, ask to escalate the call immediately as the problem appears to be DRM related and mayrequire intervention at their end to ensure all your licenses are transferred correctly.   They can be reached at: 1-800-469-9269 (from the US).

Sierra Online no longer exists, however Activision Support can be contacted here:
https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php

Note that they do not list Aces of the Galaxy in their titles, however you can contact them via the "Ask a Question" tab on the web site.

We hope that these resources will help you resolve your issue.

Best Regards,
Artech Studios

[Note: the License transfer tool can be found from the very page you are on now, place you mouse over "Support" at the upper menu (top of this page) and it will be the last option in the menu.  Make sure your Xbox is on at this point and sign into your profile on the 360.  From there on, the license tool will guide you with ease.  It only takes like two minutes]

This would be great if I didn't have to send (2) 360's back to Microsoft in less than 6 months.I use the License transfer tool feature on the first one they sent me and since you cant do it more then once a year I have to wait until sometime next year to do this.So that pretty much sucks for me.Thanks for the info though.

Same problem here, This would be fine if I hadn't used the transfer tool already for the year as well. MS needs to get off its butt and fix this the way it should be fixed. This isn't the only DRM protected game with issues, My castle crashers is useless and Double dragon also is broke if you had your console repaired. This is the ones I only know about. Could be more.

ExcessRacer,

Castle Crashers recently received an update so you may want to check threads in that game's forums for details.

Crap! once a year?! That is ridiculous...especially, considering that the 360 is a highly unreliable system.  Oh well, at least the problem is narrowed down to being purely a DRM issue.  However, that does suck.

But what about us who can't transfer the license to new console? I'm using my fifth 360 now, but the game was bought and downloaded on my previous box. And I can't use the license tranfer tool since this tool was used under 1 year ago...

I could see how you might now be able to do a license transfer more than once a year, but I find it hard to believe that Microsoft customer support wouldn't be able to do it for you...especially after they have a record of going through 5 different consoles.  If you haven't tried already, I would call them and try.
