Project Gotham Racing 3 FAQ with contributions from:

Diablohead, I3azooka, MatrixArchitect and special mentions to Canilus Maximus.

  • Q: How many cars are in the game and what are they?
A: PGR3 will feature 80+ licensed cars from 30+ manufacturers such as Ferrari, Dodge and Lamborghini. Every car in the game has been chosen based on its ability to reach 170 mph, the origin of the game's slogan "Life begins at 170".

  • Q: Can I save replays from online races?
A: Yes, any race you are in online can be saved to memory for later viewing.

  • Q: Does Project Gotham Racing 3 support custom soundtracks?
A: The game supports custom playlists, which can be created and played from the Xbox 360 HUD. The game design did not include radio stations this time, as the game has taken a step towards real organised races rather than ‘unofficial’ street races.

  • Q: What is gotham tv and what will it do?
A: Gotham tv is available to silver and gold xbox live members and will show, tv style, racing from around PGR3. Gotham tv shows the pros, the latest races and anything else Bizarre choose to tell it to show, this can even include tournament races held by bizarre and microsoft!
A news ticker also clocks and shows latest records, fastest laps and hot races.

  • Q: How many players can race online at once?
A: The game allows 8 players in each race.

  • Q: How many people can spectate a race on gotham tv?
A: Bizarre have said that the microsoft servers can allow up to 30,000 people to spectate a race but if required this number can be boosted to hold more.

  • Q: Can you tune your car in PGR3?
A: Apart from choice of car colour (if available to that car) then no, you cannot tune your ride.

  • Q: What is this track editor I hear about?
A: PGR3 features a track editor for each location in the game. The editor allows you to block off certan routes and roads to create any racing track you wish including point to point races.
All custom tracks can be raced on xbox live, though they will be unranked games.

  • Q: Is PGR 3 required to watch Gotham TV?
    A: Yes.

  • Q: Will PGR3 work on my standard size tv?
A: Yes it will, Bizarre have said: "looks perfectly correct in aspect ratio in the normal TV (4:3) settings" - Stubbette from Bizarre.

  • Q: What is Geometry Wars?
A: The game has been revamped by Bizarre Creations and it is very much like the classic Atari game Asteroids, though infinitely more advanced in graphical (and programming) terms whilst keeping the same basic gameplay ethics. The premise is simple; fly your geometric "ship" around the screen, avoiding the enemies whilst shooting them down for points. You start with a few lives, and are given a couple of bombs. More lives and bombs are gained the longer you survive, although the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly! Scoreboards on Xbox Live keep track of the best players, meaning the best in the world can step up and be counted.

  • Q: Will Geometry Wars feature within PGR3?
A: Yes, Geometry Wars was a well known easter egg within PGR2 and will be returning in PGR3. Both the original and the new Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved will feature within the garages and will be user placeable.

  • Q: Will Geometry Wars be available seperately from PGR3?
A: Yes, you will be able to download a free trial or pay for a full version of Geometry Wars from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

  • Q: Will PGR3 feature concept cars?
A: Yes, there will be ten concept cars some of which have been exclusively licensed and have never been seen before in a racing game.

          • Q: What game types will be playable?
A: There will be 23 distinct championships which will consist of the following game types:

            - Street Race - A basic race against computer controlled cars. You must place in 3rd or higher to complete the challenge.

            - One on One - Much like the Street Race, only this time you are trying to beat just one computer controlled car.  Obviously, you need to place first in order to complete the challenge.

            - Hot Lap -

            - Timed Run -

            - Overtake -

            - Cone Challenge - Weave in and out of a cone setup on a track. To beat the scores you try and link together a combo while going through the cone course.  Hitting a cone is like hitting a wall, it will stop your combo or clear your points if you don't have a combo running.

            - Speed Camera - Meet or beat a set speed in order to pass this event. For example, if the speed is set to 96 MPH, you must get at or above 96 MPH in order for the camera to photograph your car.

            - Eliminator -

            - Team Street Race -

            - Team Eliminator -

            - Capture the Track -

            - Breakthrough -
          • Q: What is kudos and how will you be awarded it?
A: Kudos are the points you recieve in and after races for doing certain things.  The more Kudos you accumulate, the higher your Rank will go. When you increase your rank you get Tokens which will allow you to purchase new cars.  You can get Kudos points from the single player or even from racing online!
When you perform something that will earn you points it'll take a couple seconds to actually bank it into your total.  If you hit a wall before it banks, you will lose the kudos that haven't been banked. However, if you've got a combo going (2 or more kudo moves) that haven't been banked, if you hit a wall they will still remain until they are banked.

Although subject to change in PGR3, ways of getting Kudos in PGR2 which are most likely to return in PGR3 included:

Here is some more info on the cars, it is compiled from the IGN PGR3 cars run down. The imformation appears to be a straigth rip of the Gotham Sport Comment from the game.

          1. Ariel Atom 300 Supercharged - For Average to Expert drivers. With a bodiless tubular chassis that includes "No doors. No screen. No roof," the Atom is an extreme example of form following function. The Atom is exceptionally light. The Atom can be driven precisely, or sideways - it's up to the driver.
          2. Callaway C12 - For Average to Expert drivers. The introduction of the C12 was a turning point for Callaway Cars—the company went from being known as a Corvette supertuner to being a manufacturer of world-class Corvette-derived automobiles. The C12 handles well and is stable under all conditions. It's also an easy car to powerslide with.
          3. Corvette C6 - For Average to Expert drivers. This sixth-generation Corvette features exposed headlamps, the first time since 1962 that a production Corvette has not had a mechanism to conceal the lamps when not in use. Quite agile, the C6 is an excellent all-around performer, but be prepared to catch its tail when you jump on the throttle!
          4. Farboud GTS - For Novice to Expert drivers. An aluminum chassis and body panels made of carbon fiber reinforced with Kevlar make the GTS very lightweight and stiff. Easily controlled while powersliding, the GTS begs to be driven sideways.
          5. Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale - For Average to Expert drivers. The Challenge Stradale is a road-going model based heavily on the cars used in the Ferrari Challenge Trophy and the GT Championship Series. The Challenge Stradale is best suited to a precise, apex-perfect driving style. It will tuck its nose into a corner with either a lift of the throttle or a stab of the brakes.
          6. Joss Supercar - For Novice to Expert drivers. The Joss Supercar, Australia's first mid-engine supercar, is the brainchild of Matt Thomas, a former Formula 1 car designer. With neutral balance and high speed stability, this car makes even novice drivers look great. It turns in moderately by lifting off of the throttle, or sharply by touching the brakes.
          7. Koenigsegg CC8S - For Average to Expert drivers. The front bumper of the CC8S has a built-in wing similar to the one used on the latest Le-Mans cars, which provides downforce and improved airflow to the coolers. Put the CC8S anywhere straight and it will disappear into the distance, pulling through exceptionally tall top gears.
          8. Koenigsegg CCR - For Average to Expert drivers. In February 2005, the Swedish-built CCR broke the world's production road car speed record, achieving a new official top speed of 241 mph at Italy's Nardo Prototipo proving ground. Driven with precision it smashes other cars into submission; driven sideways it tends to find a guardrail.
          9. Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary (QV) - For Average to Expert drivers. Built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Lamborghini factory, the Countach 25th Anniversario was intended to be a limited production car, but it became the best-selling Countach ever. The Countach is an excellent all-around performer, adept at Hot Laps to Cone Challenges.
          10. Lamborghini Diablo GT - For Novice to Expert drivers. In 1999 Lamborghini claimed that the Diablo GT was the world's fastest production car. Only 83 Diablo GTs were ever produced, and the car is not street legal in the U.S. or Japan. The Diablo GT is stable under most conditions and easy to powerslide once the tail is provoked.
          11. Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 Special Edition - For Novice to Expert drivers. The VT 6.0 SE was the final version of the legendary Diablo line. The Diablo VT is a large car, and heavier than many rivals; keep it at fast tracks with sweeping corners where it can put its top speed to good use. Its all wheel drive system keeps the tail in check.
          12. Lamborghini Gallardo -  For Novice to Expert drivers. The Gallardo is the first Lamborghini in 15 years to be designed to compete against the smaller Ferraris and Porsches. The Gallardo is well-suited to open, flowing tracks where it can put its high-speed prowess and handling balance to good use. Its weight slows it slightly in tight sections.
          13. Lamborghini Miura P400 SV - For Novice to Expert drivers. The Miura P400 SV was the world's first road-going mid-engine supercar. It was also the world's fastest production car at the time it was manufactured. The Miura is easily controlled while powersliding, and turns in to corners sharply under braking.
          14. Lamborghini Murcielago 6.2 -
          15. Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT  - For Skilled to Expert drivers. A race car based on the Murciélago 6.2, the R-GT was built to FIA and American Le Mans Series specifications. Under 120mph there's considerable wheelspin, but the R-GT shines above 150mph - where its aerodynamic assists glue it to the road.
          16. Lotus Esprit - For Novice to Expert drivers. The Esprit is particularly well-known in the UK for several reasons—James Bond drove one in the 1970s and 80s, and a disgruntled British housewife famously sold her husband's Esprit on Ebay for 90 cents (U.S.) in 2005. The Esprit is poised, balanced, and turns in sharply under braking.
          17. Noble M14 - For Novice to Expert drivers. First introduced at the 2004 British Motor Show, the M14 packs a 400 horsepower punch to fight off rivals such as the Ferrari 360 Modena. The M14 breaks away in a progressive manner, making it stable and easier to powerslide than its brother, the M400.
          18. Noble M400 - For Novice to Expert drivers. The M400 is based on the Noble M12, a breathtakingly fast road car. The M400 is famed for its phenomenal ability to hold even the bumpiest of roads. When you're faced with a tight, challenging circuit, or when you want a car to flick from one corner to another, pick the M400.
          19. Pagani Zonda C12 S 7.3 - For Average to Expert drivers. Formula One great Juan-Manuel Fangio helped Zonda creator Horacio Pagani establish a connection with Mercedes-Benz, which resulted in the Zonda being equipped with a Mercedes AMG engine. A car to be driven with precision; not for those looking to power through corners sideways.
          20. Panoz GTR-1 Coupe - For Skilled to Expert drivers. Originally designed by Reynard Special Vehicle Projects, the GTR GT-1 is affectionately known among auto racing fans by its nickname: "The Batmobile." The short gearing of the GTR GT-1 means drivers will find the rev-limiter in top gear, but they will do so quickly! This car slaloms like little else.
          21. Saleen S281 - For Average to Expert drivers. Saleen rebuilt the Mustang engine with a new crankshaft, camshafts, connecting rods, pistons, cylinder heads, and added a supercharger. The S281E turns tires into smoke like little else. Big Power + Bigger Powerslides = The Biggest Grins.
          22. Saleen S7 - For Skilled to Expert drivers. Dubbed "the first true American supercar," the S7 can reach 60 mph in less than three seconds. Often outnumbered by rivals, the S7 is never outgunned. Drive the S7 with the throttle as much as the steering wheel and you'll find it to be a crushingly capable high-speed missile.
          23. Toyota GT-One - For Expert drivers. The GT-One set a new race-lap record at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1999, a record that still stands today. The GT-One does well at high speeds, being pressed into the road by aerodynamic forces. It changes directions faster than one can blink. So don't blink.
          24. TVR Sagaris - For Average to Expert drivers. Created to meet the demands of endurance racing, the Sagaris is designed to be a Le-Mans car for the road. Sagaris is the Greek name for a battle-axe. Light weight and sharp handling cut through the most difficult Cone Challenge, Hot Lap, or Street race.
          25. TVR Typhon - For Average to Expert drivers. With its lightweight carbon-fiber body and aluminum chassis construction, the Typhon reflects TVR's years of Le-Mans experience. The Typhon's supercharged inline six has an unending upper-RPM rush of power. A triathlete, the Typhon excels in events calling for speed, style, or head-to-head prowess.
          26. Ultima GTR - For Average to Expert drivers. The GTR is quicker than virtually any street-legal, factory-built car in the United States. With a 500 horsepower 383 cubic inch V8 and so little weight, the GTR slingshots from corner to corner. A balanced, stable car, the GTR is easy to drive quickly.
          27. VW W12 Nardo Coupe - For Skilled to Expert drivers. The W12 set a new world record for 24-hour endurance racing at the Nardo test track, with an average speed of 185.45 mph, beating the old record by 7.5 mph. The W12 gets better with speed, its underbody ground effects sucking the car to the road; use it at tracks with high average speeds.
          28. Wiesmann GT - For Average to Expert drivers. A race-prepared version of the GT was tested under extreme conditions in the 24-hour Nürburgring race in 2004, providing the manufacturers with key data that helped inform the design of the production version. Strong brakes and suspension balanced for powersliding are there for you to exploit.

          Here's another few FAQs.

You can't do an online Kudos friends race, in fact you can't host a kudos online race... you have to join a mysterious virtual server or do the other silly playtime type of race.

(Prevention of cheating is a lame answer.  Standby buttons, two people racking up Kudos... who cares.  Why punish the rest of us.  You can put other types of things in place to guard against Kudos ***.)

You also cannot do split screen for a Live match of any kind.  If you have a friend over, and you want to do split screen on Live with your fiiends... not gonna happen.

Matrix, can you expand on some of these.  I have a few of them, and some of them are self explanitory, but what about Style Racer, Pro Racer, Gotham TV Sports Hero, Gotham TV Hero, Online Professional, Track Builder, Photographer, etc.... I've tried building tracks and taking photos, but haven't gotten those yet.  Great FAQ, any extra help would be great.  For the Owners Clubs (Ferrari and Lamborghini) do you just have to own all of those types?

Q: Will PGR3 feature concept cars?
A: Yes, there will be ten concept cars some of which have been exclusively licensed and have never been seen before in a racing game.

          Cadillac Concept - 90,000 K - C - Cadillac Sixteen - 10 / 3 / 8 / 1
          Ford Concept - 120,000 K - A -
          Ford Supercar Concept (Indigo) - 8 / 10 / 2 / 10
          Ford Concept - 300,000 K - B -
          Ford GT90 Concept - 8 / 8 / 7 / 7
          Ford Concept - 390,000 K - C - Ford Shelby Cobra (unconfirmed)
          Ford Concept - 160,000 K - C - Ford Shelby GR-1 (unconfirmed)
          Ford Concept - 10,000 K - D -
          Ford Mustang GT-R Concept - 5 / 7 / 6 / 7
          Nissan Concept - 50,000 K - E - Nissan GT-R Proto (unconfirmed)
          RUF Concept - 475,000 K - A - RUF R50 (unconfirmed)
          Toyota Concept - 230,000 K A - Toyota GT-One

Correction for this section.  The Ford Shelby Cobra unlocked for me with 160k Kudos.  The GR-1 is still locked.  Also, stats for the Cobra are 6 / 6 / 10 / 6.  Stats for the Nissan GT-R Concept are 4 / 7 / 5 / 6.

Since I can't edit my last post, another correction.  For the Ford GT-90 and GR-1 concept cars, I don't have them unlocked yet, but the one that unlocks at 300k Kudos costs 200,000CR and the one that unlocks at 390k Kudos costs 155,000CR.

Where did you get those prices, they are seriously under valuing some if not all of the cars if they are the real world values? Also what currency are those real world values in?

Well I have a question about where did all the cool stuff go from PGR2 like the medal info and the customizable soundtracks.  i mean pgr2 had a great sound track and the ability to look at wether you had raced the race on medium or easy and had the medal beside it.  dont get me wront i love pgr3 its one of the best racing games i have ever played but i was just wondering if they just had to cut those things out last minute or what.  anyone got any reasons why that stuff wasnt in pgr3

You have unlimited customizable play lists.  Hit the guide button and just play some music?
