I just managed to get the Tempest Throttle Monkey Achievement; breaking 100,000 and ending with 127,118 on Level 17! It appears that I'm the first to grab this very difficult AP too.

I've been trying for a few days - though at last, on the run prior to the 127,118 score I started at level 11 making it to wave 17 (a phenomenal run if I don’t say so myself), but my score was only a paltry 95,000 - - boo. However, this allowed me to restart at level 15 with the 114,000 bonus (instant Achievement when completed =); making it back to level 17 where I died with my final score.

I don't think I'll play Throttle Monkey "Evolved" again... it was very frustrating, but when I got that 100k it was like FINIALLY!, and well since I have the Achievement there really isn’t a need.

My best advice is to stay on the spikes as much as possible to keep your fire rate high, and don't be shy about using the Super Zappers.

 

Congratulations V, I don't think i'll ever get that one! Thanks for your help in the forums btw. I am 14th on the leaderboard and have been trying every weekend to improve but this game is a slow go for me; and everyone else judging by the leaderboard activity.

Appears that gamertag OnaBeamOfL1ght snagged the Tempest Throttle Monkey AP yesterday (12/31/2007) becoming the second known gamer to to so. I (Virtua V) was the first =)

Anyway... something strange about his Leaderboard score regarding Throttle Monkey Mode is that the total isn't 100,000 points or greater, which is the requirement for Evolved Normal Mode. OnaBeamOfL1ght score is only 99,489; wonder if it was captured offline, while LIVE was down or a possible glitch?

Anyway congrats OnaBeamOfL1ght! Now if we could only get the Turmoil AP.

Easiest way to tell is when you look at someones achievements it should give the date of when its unlocked. If there is no date then it was done offline.
Afaik, this is only viewable on the Xbox.com website and looking at their profile as dates arent listed when you compare games.
Oh, and congrats Virtua V, I enjoy trying to keep up with your scores early on during release, but its not long till you break away, well, atleast Ive only noticed your name on the Atari XBLA games so far......

I snagged the achievement on 12/22/07. And yes, LIVE was down. I went out of state for Christmas and when I returned home, I was able to get online again. My game ended on level 19 with a score of approximately 147,000.
