Why not tempest 2000
Tempest 2000 was the best tempest game ever created for the atari jaguar which was a 64 bit home console for you young ones. Why in the world would they not make that an xbla rlease? It included the traditional version vs and 2000. What a bummer.

Re: Why not tempest 2000
Agreed this version is utter crap.
Also Tempest X on the psone was even better than Tempest 2000.
I was really looking forward to this release and im now totally gutted at this worthless pile of crap.

Re: Why not tempest 2000
Couldn't agree more ! Tempest X was what I was expecting as the "evolved" version . Even Tempest 2000 would've been sweet , but no , it has to be identical to the arcade classic with colored "lanes" . I definitely should've checked out the demo first before making the full purchase .

Haha, well, that was what the advertising said anyway. The console actually ran on two 32-bit RISC processors. 32+32=64, so they could fool people into thinking it was actually 64.

Honestly they screwed up the original Tempest, imagine how they would have butchered Tempest 2000 or Tempest X....

Man, I am really disappointed in this release.  I also was expecting Tempest 2000.  Great game and great music.  Instead, we get the old classic, which is okay, but hard and boring.  At least it supports co-op.

Re: Why not tempest 2000
My guess is that the reason why it wasnt Tempest 2000 was that Atari would have to give royalties to Jeff Minter and they probably didnt want to do that.

Re: Why not tempest 2000
This release is good.. if you just want the original arcade Tempest.. Which has already been on who-knows-how-many arcade compilations.. ugh.. Anyways, nice for people who have never played it before.

Tempest X3 was good. Though personally, I don't believe it was quite as good as T2K. It was more of a "Here's T2K with some things stripped, and some things added." Was a mixed bag, really. There were some new additions that were neat, and the framerate was silky smooth. But everything was a little *too* smooth--To the point where the added speed killed some of the bonus stages. Some of the later levels aren't designed as well, either. The soundtrack, like in the PC version of T2K, was also taken from the official Tempest 2000 Soundtrack released by Atari (Check it on ebay, you can probably get it for a few bucks), which I personally take as a negative--The soundtrack on the original Jag cart was actually much better than the official, re-done soundtrack--Heavier bass, much more going on with the percussion, louder, faster, and much more driving than the OST version.. The music alone makes all the difference in a game that gets as crazy as Tempest 2000 (Which I must say, later on, very few games out there get as crazy as T2K, haha)..

Anyways, I recall playing an emulated version of T2K on the Virtual Jaguar emulator (I think it was Virtual Jag.. there a few out, but there's not a lot of compatibility on any) and to my surprise it was flawless. The sound and everything was intact just as on the actual cart. The 360* is definately powerful enough to emulate such, so T2K could be done on XBLA--technically.

Haha, maybe they could get the license from Interplay (I think they dev. or published the X3 version) and Atari and do a T2K/X3 special bundle.. That would actually be pretty sweet. Unlikely, but just food for thought.

And while I'm on it, I wonder what it would take to get Minter to port Tempest 3000 over to XBLA...

Good thing I read this forum first. I was expecting Tempest 2000 or better. I won't get it now. Minter released that ultra crap game based on Tempest 2000 not to long ago, I forget the name. Its no tempest.

Re: Why not tempest 2000
I bought this game without even playing the demo thinking it was Tempest 2000...wow was I disappointed! I was there back in the day playing it on my Atari Jaguar. Lucky for me I still have my Jaguar and Tempest 2000 cartridge! It's hard to play this version on the 360 for longer than five minutes because I lose interest. Oh well...

Nice I sold my jaguar and got a computer years ago. I still miss Tempest 2000.

Come on Atari we know you have the code. Release it!

Well i still have my Jag(s) to play the best version of Tempest - PERIOD! Nothing comes close to the Jag's version of Tempest 2000 - especially when played with a rotary controller as it was intended. TempestX never did that much for me personally (and apparently Minter didn't think much of it either). I don't mind T3K on the NUON (which i also still have) but this craptacular version leaves much to be desired for. I'm not even sure whats missing, but it's like playing a 'dead' game - it moves and makes sounds but the spirit's long gone (or was never there to begin with). While i am a huge Tempest fan, i have only played this about 3 times since i got it. After the rather excellent Space Giraffe, this was a huge disappointment!

I actually liked cybermorph 8( perhaps i was just trying to get some fun out of a console that i paid a lot of money for and had Trevor Mcfur as an alternative to play, Jag tempest was most excellent though as was Alien vs predator that was my first fps and it sucked me in big time, then i was introduced to DOOM. nuf said.

This is actually a very good remake. I posted a thread here several months back about it, but I don't think anyone looked at it.. They're missing out if they haven't!

I was one of those few that liked Cybermorph as well. Now I look at it, it's not exactly, erm, fantastic or anything.. But it was my only Jag game for a little while, and the shading it used was awesome to look at (at the time) =)

Battlemorph on the Jag CD though was actually really good.. Same gameplay as Cybermorph, but on crack ;) A worthy sequel.

Yeah, I've since downloaded and it is very good (and hard). Pleasantly surprised.
