Assist please on Alter of Darkness
I'm having more than my share of problems with the Alter of Darkness level.  No mater what I throw down, the AI has the perfect counter at the perfect time.  I know the odds of the "dice" are already stacked against the player, but I can't seem to gain any more than 5000 magic at a time.  What are some card combos I can employ to give me a fighting chance?
She's killing me! And she used to be such a sweet little girl too.

Re: Assist please on Alter of Darkness

I forget what deck she uses for that level, but I believe it's an all neutral deck, so try to equip anything that kills neutrals easily. Try equipping various enfeebling cards like sinking song or silence so that she can't use various abilities and to make her weak.

A very good one-two punch is debility (target creature's ST = 0/ doublecast) and lunatic light (target creature's hp/st are reversed). This works as an insta-kill for any creature you can cast spells on. Lunatic light also works well on any defensive creatures who have a ST of 0.

If you're on the far left or the far right of an argument, you know what you've done? You've gone too far.

Re: Assist please on Alter of Darkness
If you have Clay Idol, try using that too - the decrease in the damage of the area spells will take enough of an edge off them to keep her from wiping out your own creatures as quickly.  And yes, anti-neutral creatures and spells are important here.  Saint and Paladin are both especially useful.

I used a B/Y deck, and made a point of using Fontaciel as much as possible after getting him out.  If you pump your creatures' HP enough, combined with the Clay Idol, her mass damage spells don't have nearly as much of an impact.

And trust me, it's definitely worth taking the time to create a deck just to counter hers.  You may get more use out of it.  Smile [:)]

It's all about the games...

Okay, noted.  Give me a week and I'll let you know how it goes.  Thanks for all your help!
By the way, what's a B/Y deck?

I think she's referring to a blue/yellow deck. I call it my storm deck. It only uses water (blue) and air (yellow) creatures. There are some creatures that get stronger with the more of the same element you have out. Storm Avatar is an example of this. His HP/ST increase for every blue or yellow creature that are in play.

Re: Assist please on Alter of Darkness
Mass Phantasm will keep those global damage spells at bay, but I was able to take her down in a hardcore battle of attrition.  Only play creatures that can withstand 30-40 and still sit pretty.  For example, the Magma Avatar is a mainstay of my deck and channels the red and green territories across the entire board.  But it's weakness is direct damage outside of battle.  While capable of generating game-changing strength and defense, they never held territories against her with their 30 base HP.  So, they were my front line attackers which would then get swapped back to my hand as quickly as possible.  Against any other opponent, they can dominate.  Also, a few Telegnosis cards will suplement most strategies, here by helping you keep your damaged creatures switched out.

I apparently got lucky when I beat her on my first try, but the 110 round battle should give you some indication how hard I had to fight.  I'm not about to blow off anyone having trouble with her.  Solid deck building AND in-game strategy is a must.  This really is a test of the superior Culdcept player, and my hats off to anyone who cleans her clock.

And I STILL tell you, the game rolls the same for the cpu as it does for the player.  The game doesn't cheat.  So, I have little respect for anyone who thinks the game is biased.

Mass Phantasm is a must against Dark Faustina, for sure. Something else I find very awesome against her neutral creatures is Soul Hunt+Banishing Ray, especially Metal Shambler. Wait until she levels it, then enchant, kill, and swoop in and take the land. On the creature side, Saint just ruins her offensively and defensively. =)

I don't remember the cards name exactly, but i'm sure you'll get an idea 4 those of you who have them. Saint, water-neutralizes Grey/Death to g cards 60%? And Armored Dragon?/neutral-requires 1 card to summon (TC) Does 20-30? to neutral Gift [G] cards/ neutralizes g cards. Good luck!
Run then gun stay, still and your done!

Re: Assist please on Alter of Darkness
Bloody crap! I finally beat her this morning! I used a lot of Armored Dragons and Paladins. Also I used the spell that utterly removes neutral creatures. This combo kept her from gaining a foothold in the magic department. It took a long while, but she finally went down. Thanks everyone for your help!
