If you've never played battlezone or don't have a flare for the retro stuff, try the trial. IF YOU LIKE BATTLEZONE - This game is FANTASTIC. The new graphics engine is excellent, the mechanics are EXACTLY the same as the original game and the gameplay is dead on. Well worth the mere 400 points.

Ths game is well worth 400mp when I heard it was on the way I thought it would be the full 800.

Of the very short demo I tried the game seemed like classic Battlezone and a good remake. Would have bought if I would have got my 4000 point card in the mail today but looks like not till tomorrow.

Did Atari finally get it right? Most people say the 'evolved' version of these games aren't too great...

my friend, this time evolved mode kicks @$$. Havent played throttlemonkey mode because i hate that feature that the atari games have. 
 
  I actually like the evolved more than the classic original.  I'm sure alot of the guys on here who have a soft spot for nostalgic games like this will disagree, but they can at least admit that this time atari did get it right. 

 GOOD JOB ATARI, if they keep improving their games like this, i will find it easier and easier to part with five dollars for a fun and challenging game such as this.  Hey if they can release some cool updated pong game on live i think that would kick ***. Otherwise there are a bunch of games in the atari collection that have yet to grace xbox live arcade.  I think that will change, as this game should sell well as long as people try it.  Online is fun too, only problem is that sometimes you can shoot at an enemy and the bullets will seem to lag and not even hit them.  The bullets blatantly go through everyones.  It doesnt happen that often, but its enough to warrant a patch hopefully (as it was not only me). 

I usually dont post this much, its just that im happy with this atari game, and i hope maybe they can expand the online to say, 8 people rather than four.  You frequently spawn in the middle of nowhere and it is boring to slowly find someone in a game that should be packed with action.  If anyone actually read all my text, thankyou for wasting your time.  On a serious note, good job atari but please make a patch to update online and maybe additional multiplayer spots (hope its possible) as well.  Peace and goodnight all.

Errrr - if you go into the options screen, you'll see there are two control systems for BZ. One is a single 8 ways stick which will send you forward/back, rotate/left-right and move forward left/right and back left/right, depending on where you push the stick. You have to be a bit careful, so try it out again.

Me, because I used to play the arcade version, I don't like the default control system much. I use dual stick controls.

In the arcade you had two joystick which just went forward or back. You have to imagine that each stick controls just one of the tracks of your tank. So - push both forward - you go forward. Both back, you go back. Now it gets tricky

Push the left one forward and the right one back - left track goes forward, right track goes back; result - you rotate on the spot right. Right one forward, left one back - you rotate left.

But the key to winning BZ is to kind of strafe left/right (it's not actually a 'strafe' but is sort of). To do that you push one stick forward/back and leave the other one 'neutral'. So you're moving and turning a bit at the same time.

It used to be very satisfying to do this on the arcade machne, where you had two big 'grips'. Still enjoying it on my dual sticks (using right trigger to fire) 'though.

the multiplayer has some serious potential.....i could easily play the multiplayer for hours, although i wish there was 8 players instead of 4.  and a weapon pick up on the map would be nice......maybe something to make you drive faster.

the single player pretty much sucks if u ask me but that is because it is insanely hard after about 50,000 points and there is a very low percentage on getting any achievements in single player.  how the *** do you kill the missles is really the most frustrating part.  the move left to right way too fast to try to lead them and they dont always hit you head on.

evolved is way better than classic since it loks nicer and the third person view is a huge advantage.  i hate 1st person stuff - i wish halo gave me the option to play as third person......thats just me though.

 

my main complaint though is......somewhere, i forget where, but somewhere.....i swear i read there was a 2v2 capture the flag game online  and thought that would be really fun but i dont know if i am missing it, but it seems to not be there in the options.....can anyone else confirm they read this?

I aggree 100%!!  But, I think the Tempist remake is complete garbage.  I don't know how Stainless Games can be so erratic with their quality, but Battlezone is their best effort yet!!

I think the demo is too short for me to decide whether this game is any good or not and it certainly seems like a love it or hate it scenario. I never played the original. I do like the look of the evolved version, i have asteroids and love both the classic and evolved versions of that, so i'm tempted but need to see more.

The under 25 crowd usually hate these Retro-Atari games. When this game first came out it was awesome, and it still is.
