My gf and I came across this while playing towards 100% completion.
There is actually an option to help you resize the screen that could be beneficial to some players. In the setting menu under Help and options you will see an option called screen adjustment. You can actually use this option to resize the viewing area to fill more of your TV.
The benefit of this being the bigger the viewable area, the easier it is to see the hidden items. This made a HUGE difference to me and my GF. I hope this helps out others as well.
