Why are critics so cruel to Sonic
Why are game critics so cruel to Sonic. This game Sonic the Hedgehog admittedly was not that great, and if I had not been a fan of Sonic I probably would not have finished it. However, I have been looking at a lot of reviews for other Sonic games that I did not think were half bad, and they got very poor ratings from critics. Like Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, which I thought was pretty good, but critics say the game is almost unplayable. It almost makes me not trust what critics say about games. I feel like I need to rent games to see if I like them, instead of trusting ratings. Good thing you can download demos from Xbox Live.

Great...

Anti-Sonic bias. It's been present in professional game reviewers since Heroes.

WRONG! This game is generally awful.

Now, alright. I'll agree that there is some bias towards Sega as a whole and Sonic, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this game, along with countless other Sonic games are BAD, you know, as in actually being a horrible game.

So, you're going to run out and call me bias I assume? Well before you do that, answer me this: If I honestly hated Sonic why would I have bought almost every console and handheld I've ever owned for the Sonic titles on them?

There has been nothing but good to bad Sonic games since after the Genesis/Megadrive. Sonic is still very popular, but he's practically considered a joke now.

Also, don't trust reviews either way, go with what you think you'll like, but don't state your opinion as fact until you've got the facts. If you like the new Sonic games, thats great, support Sonic Team so they can shovel more turds out.

There's still really no possible way of knowing if they're all bias or not.

Sonic Next Gen 2 could finally be the game that gets 3D Sonic games popular but everybody could still rate it low because they don't like Sonic.

Re: Why are critics so cruel to Sonic

I played all of the Sonic games on Dreamcast and also those on XBOX1.  I enjoyed them.

This Sonic game is a travesty.  Almost as if it was released at 50% completion!  Loadtimes galore, glitches, poor control, and lots of other problems...

dont trust critics, theyve played 1000's of games so everything seems old for them, they expect perfection. sure this game had alot of glitches but nothing to cry about, which critics do.

Re: Why are critics so cruel to Sonic
I haven't played this game yet, I rented it (for free) because I was supposed to get my xbox back two days ago from red rings of death failure (but the UPS guy keeps coming at times when I'm working!).

As a kid I owned nintendo products, but I always went over to my friends house and played all the sonic games. With the GC I played sonic adventure 2 battle for a long time and I think there is a lot to do in that game, but that being said the reviews were truthful when they mentioned bad camera angles and difficult controls.

Part of it is just getting used to how the game works (playing a lot) and then you can see other stuff in the game that are unique and interesting.

So I'm waiting to get my xbox back to try this one and see if its any good. So far a lot of negative reviews though. Hopefully the new one coming out will bring sonic back.

Oh, and congrats on getting 1000, I would have thought that was impossible. Isn't S rank like...hard?!

You mean the final boss? That was extremely easy, beat it on my first try.

Re: Why are critics so cruel to Sonic

Thanks Ax3m4hn, a lot of the missions did take a few tries but it's totally doable. With some of Shadows missions you have to destroy everything you can find until you have made the 50,000 or near that amount yourself instead of trying to blow through it quickly to get the time bonus. With Silver you need to try to keep moving forward as much as you can while picking things up so you have something to take enemies out with quickly. As for the final mission you should just do your best not to die with anyone but still be quick, if you die than that blows away your chances at getting a S rank, be especially careful with Knuckles, Amy and Shadow. There's a guide on Gamefaq for Sonic the Hedgehog that can be really helpful too. Hope this helps you a little if you haven't already given up on the game because of it's many glitches and flaws.

Great...

Re: Why are critics so cruel to Sonic

Not a single Sonic game has been consistent since Sonic Adventure. Sega hasn't been able to find a good way to stick  with one type of gameplay method.  I would have loved to see them improve on Sonic Adventure and make it better with less glitches and more to do. Also, every mission in Sonic 06 can be S ranked easy. Just dont die. With sonic just spam the red gem. With shadow kill everything. With silver..............          Sonic Heroes was a great game but it wasn't like a normal Sonic game. Just because it was different doesn't mean it sucks. Liking a game is also just based on your opinion. Sonic Unleashed is also a different type of Sonic game. For information on it go to www.campsonic.com .
