Lack of save checkpoints?

Howdy,

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel there is a MAJOR lack of save checkpoints in this game? It usually takes me an hour or so until I get to the next save point, drives me nuts it does!

Howdy partner.  There sure is a doggone lack of save points.  It gets irritating cause in a game like this which is pretty damn challenging, you got to go a long way's back if you die.

I don't know which one had a worse saving system, this or Dead Rising.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Ive never had a problem with game saves for this.

Some are hidden within rooms, this game really isnt one for jumping in for just 15 minutes, you've gotta put a fair bit of time each play through.

Dont worry about dying though, occasionally you'll get to sections where you wont be restarted at your save, but at a checkpoint.

Initially, I had a LOT of trouble with the save points being to far apart. Even posted something to this effect during my first playthrough.

In later playthroughs, I knew where the save points were, and knew when I could safely press on as opposed to doubling back to save again.

So, it's not just you.

If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research.

Wow, like you read my mind.  Dead Rising is worse, but only by a few points is SHH better.  At least with DR you can hit the big Xbox guide button and exit to dashboard since the actual save locations are more frequent than Silent Hill.
What if...I became a Spectre? Conrad...I haven't been shot in the head nearly enough times to think that's a good idea.

Been ages since I played DR, but I don't really remember have any issues with the save system there... how did it work again? All I remember is it being one of my fav games of all time, roll on Dead Rising 2!!

once i figured out the controls better and things, i never had a problem with the save spots, any area that was really difficult there was a save spot beforehand so if i died i didn't have that much to repeat

Yeah but it's really ok if you get the key from the guy after killing the chainsaw clown guy.  I just could never find this guy! Stick out tongue [:P]

I'm in the Hotel now and the save spot is only after I bring back the memories and that means not getting killed after each picture.  This is a real bummer.  Love the game but I wish there was at least an autosave.  DR and this one is the only ones I can think of that don't have one.

Long live DR2!

There aren't many difficult spots that you encounter, and the ones you must play through are the ones that take some time and dedication, careful planning and don't rush. But once you get the layout and the controls better, the whole game is a breeze, with or without the laser pistol.

I don't know man, I don't have a problem but other people do. All I have to say is explore. There may be a few that I have found that you have not. If you're in Sheperd's Glen you can always go into the Mayor's office (I think) and save in one of those rooms. When you get further in the game you can go into the Doctor's office and save as well. So really all you need to do is back track or explore, then you'll be fine with saving.

Yes there are a lack of save points and its extremly annying back when I played It is not fun backtracking to a save point 10 mins away jsut ot save makes no sense since they were better placed in the old games

I don't seem to understand how you have a since of a lack in save points, at points in the game i felt there may have been to many in an area.  Perhaps it's just because I have a problem when I play any SH game I must check every wall, every floor board, that odd noise behind the door I just can't reach.  So finding save points was no big problem and would take about 15 or so mins between each.

I personally think that some places there wre too many save spots,  There definitely, imho, was plenty throughout the game.  If there were more it would indeed decrease the difficulty of this game.

Towards the end there were too many save points, but when you start the game i felt like there were too little. However i found out towards the end of the game that the save points were not going to be on the main path most of the time, you would have to go find them. I liked that but its a little different from the other SH games. I havent played it a second time, but i should find more save points from the get go of the game now that i know.

I'm in the same spot, when i play games like this i tend to be very thorough checking every corner, looking in every bathroom, checking every bedroom table etc. this will be my 4th playthrough from talking to the lady through the hole in the door to finding each of the images she requested.

I think it makes a change only being able to save at certain points through the game. being able to pause and save on games makes them to easy. save points makes you more cautious, because when you die you have to go back 10 minutes to the last save point.

i played a bit more and im finding i sorta agree with the statement of not enough. its not that theres not enough its that some of them are just downright hard to notice if your flying by. like the save spot in the jail after the scene with your mom and the world changes i didnt even see that one my first time through.
