I felt it was needed to make a thread to complain about the 360 not getting the 1.2gb overhaul of UT3 that the PC and PS3 are getting. I was expecting it to be a PC exclusive but I am surprised to see the PS3 is getting it and the 360 is not. What a shame.

That IS pretty lame.  I'm starting to get back into this game recently after a friend of mine picked it up.  It really is a blast (no pun intended).  Shame that it wasn't promoted more heavily than it was...a lot of my friends didn't even know about the game until I mentioned it to them.

Well...I guess maybe this in some way makes up for The Lost and Damned going only to 360 and not PS3...

Still...I want my Titan Pack.

i just got done playing the updated UT3 on my pc ,like you all i too wish for it to come out on xbox at some point the new modes and mutators really add a new level of play to the game

They say its not out for xbox due to file size restrictions and they keep saying that the xbox version got 5 exclusive maps that are now a part of the pc/ps3 update so we not missing out on much.... BS!!! if thats the case wont those 5 levels in the update that the xbox already has subtract a decent amount from the file size????????

I am going to go pick up the PS3 version today and enjoy the game all over again. The one feature I really like with the PS3 version is the user made maps. It is kinda a cool feature. You can download user made content from a few websites. oh well maybe the 360 will get some of the maps if the interest in the game picks up again.

I agree with you about the lack of free content becoming more and more scarce! I recently purchased a PS3 (2 weeks ago to be exact), and one of the first things I noticed when I logged into the PlayStation Store was all the free themes, and wallpapers; it was unbelievable how much stuff was free there.  However, I think it's important to add that the PlayStation store doesn't have as much content as the Xbox Marketplace, but never the less, it does have a lot of premium content for free! 

For a service that has a pay-to-play philosophy, one would think that MS would be inclined to give back to it's community in some sort of way; however that just isn't the case!  They will nickle, and dime there way out of the next Generation loop, YOU'LL SEE!!!

P.S. Oh and all the rumors you hear that the PlayStation Network sucks, and is full of lag is a LIE!!!  So far I have played Killzone 2, and Warhawk and haven't experienced any more or less lag that that on Xbox Live.  For the Record I will go as far as to say that I have most likely experienced far less leg than that on Xbox Live.  Don't believe the Lies that people tell you about the PlayStation Network being junk because it's free, because that just isn't true!!!

Well according to Epic, they are restricted by MS's "Update" file size, not DLC file size.  Epic is releasing this in the form of an update, instead of delivering the content via DLC; which is the form it should be delivered in anyway.  I mean just about every game on the Xbox 360 has brought over new content in the form of DLC; expansions, map packs, or any other game changing content is delivered in this fashion, so why have that change by now delivering it in the form of an "Update"?

This entire ordeal sounds fishy to me!!!

I'm convinced that this has to do with an exclusivity agreement with PC and PS3, and that a few months down the road we'll see an announcement that suddenly Epic has magically found a way to release the Titan Pack for the 360 as well.

This is an epic (pun intended) ego struggle between M$ and Mark Rein.  Rein is peeved because M$ won't allow user created content.  M$ wants to have the option top charge us for every piece of content on Live and therefor can't allow 3rd party developers to give stuff away using their mod browser because M$ would have no control.

This is now a dying point for MS and needs to stop... because as other people have said if you can get it free on other consoles the fact we pay for Live is going to be a really big issue and will after a time convert people to a "cheaper in the long run system"

Personally, I don't care about user-created mods.  I fail to see why Epic can't just drop the mod browser and deliver the rest of the content in a DLC pack...which I would be fine with paying for.  Obviously it'd be better if it was free, but if paying for it is the only way that we'll see the Titan Pack on the 360, then I'm ok with that.

im calling BS on the patch size , i just downloaded the 2.0 patch on my ps3 and it was only 93 mb

This is B.S all epic have to do is release it as DLC and have a small auto update that tells the game to load the DLC first hell they did it for burnout paradise with the DLC patches so why not here what gives think we should inform epic of this as its the clear answer to making it work

I've been following this conversation as a "potential" purchaser of this game. The people on the "other side" (PSN) are all excited as to the fact that they are getting it, and claim there are plenty of people playing over there when compared to the 360 version.  (A statement I call bogus on merely because I have a few friends in the UT community who are always playing - one of who is in this thread) Still that didn't stop them from trying to sway me into purchasing the game for the PS3.

For starters - I have to agree - don't believe the lies about the PSN. I have a PS3 and I was actually VERY surprised at what the grass was like on the other side. Just as Acidic mentioned, there are alot of free themes, content, etc. over there which was very surprising to me. One thing that really surprised me was the free music. I was on for a day when I got the system and already I had the soundtrack to a few games and even the theme song to Mirror's Edge - all free.

Naturally I must state for the record that their navigation and overall layout leaves a bit to be desired when compared to the simplistic ease of use on the LIVE dash, etc. It's layed out in more of a website manner which leaves you feeling like you're on the web surfing a webpage that could stand to be a bit more intuitive. Still - for something free I can't complain too much.

Still the point for me is I may actually still end up getting this on the 360 anyways. The friends lists, the party system, etc. just makes for a better gaming experience when trying to set up matches in games. Something I admittedly don't know enough about yet on the PS3. (I only own two games, Uncharted and PAIN at the moment and have tinkered about in "Home" so my online experience has been limited to say the least over there. Although admittedly Killzone 2 does look slightly tempting lol)


I think the reason why this is an issue is simply because of the LIVE service. It works and it works WELL when compared to the "other" side. I know this already from experience and I won't even touch the Wii online set up. If MS starts letting every tom, duke, and epic update as they please - it devalues and compromises the service.

Soon developers would be putting out 2Gb downloads or some mother in Utah might cry lawsuit because her son downloaded a level for UTIII titled "Naked Women From Hades".  I can understand why they are protective of the service.

I say give it time as others have mentioned - I'm almost positive that epic will work something out given the bad economy and how foolish it would be to just lose potential profits by not working with MS.


BTW - the biggest complaint over on the "other side" is that the 360 version can be found for as cheap as $14, while their version still runs for something like $25.  So don't worry too much about it. It all balances out in the end lol.

This pack wont come to the xbox 360 unless they take out the mod browser and the user created mod tools. you might get the new maps but thats it. blame micorsoft for that being a closed system.

Personally I wouldn't blame them for that. I'm actually glad they are as secure with LIVE as they are. When the government actually REQUESTS access to your service on the grounds that they can't "see" what's going on in there and want to make sure everything is going kosher - you KNOW it's a secure service.

I don't care so much about the mods, as opposed to the new "official" content.

I blame both sides, MS for being so tight locked and Epic for being too focused on Gears of War. Had they focused on both GoW and UT3 things could be different, but no, they rather spend all their manpower and development on their best seller.

Such a shame, UT3 is a great game and by far the most enjoyable MP FPS on the 360.

I can try and find a link, but it's admittedly old news. So it may or may not google with good results. But it's in reference to the government wanting to be able to do wire taps, etc. and being "free" to do so should they need to. When this first broke (around the time LIVE first came out and all the talk was about how it's safe to join up due to it's high encryption, security, blah blah blah) there were a few articles (some online and I believe one in an EGM magazine) that detailed the government wanting to poke around in there.

That may or may not have been in the EGM article, but the portion I read concentrated heavily on their interest in knowing the workings of XBOX LIVE specifically. The new maps are stunning, but the Titan mutator is pretty dumb IMO.  The new gametypes are ok, but I don't see myself playing them much.  In all, would I like to see the update on the 360?  Of course.  Is the update enough to make me play on the PS3 instead of the 360 (I have both versions)?  Nah.

What this game truly needs is a party/matchmaking system.  And that's not in this update.

Amen!  No pre-game lobby?  Come on.  It is unfathomable in this day and age that if I'm in a playlist with a friend and we want to be on the same team, that one of us has to constantly remember to switch teams at the beginning of each map.  I don't care if "that's the way it's always been with UT"...times have changed, and this game needs to evolve.

My friends who have dropped the game due to the lack of matchmaking and I couldn't agree more.
