All of my SF IV data was not on my hard drive when I logged in. "No data Found"

This is the second time this has happened. The first time was because I shut off my xbox while it was saving. This time I was very careful and it there is NO explanation for it.

I had about 1200 BP online last time and this time I had 2200 BPs. I unlocked everyone including Akuma, Ghouken, Seth...and now I have to do it for a 3rd time.

What the hell Capcom, why would you make it so that something like this can happen. I own 30 other games and never have I lost any kind of data.

Now I have to go buy a memory card just to back up my data but I;m not happy about it. I have a 120GB hard drive but still need a memory card? BS

You havent quit playing duiring a ranked match have you?
I have heard rumors that doing so at a certain time can cause you to lose your player data.
If that isnt the case- I am sorry this happened to you.

Sounds like a defective hard drive or something along those lines.

Well, it sounds like you have the right idea, anyway.  You're going to start backing up your data.  That's really the only thing we can do until (and if) Capcom fixes this bug.

Personally, I just ordered a second memory card so that I can have two backups.  A 64mb card goes for around $15-$20 on eBay.  One in case the HD copy corrupts and a second in case I accidentally copied a corrupted version onto the first memory card.  Yes, I'm very anal about backups.

By the way, you should feel lucky that you can backup at all!  The PS3 version locks its game save files, so when theirs get corrupted (the bug also hits the PS3 version) they're out of luck.

I personally think that most of the people who get this error are ranked match quitters and I hope it happens to them again and again until they give up......serves them right.

Very unlucky for the people who arent quitters though, i'd be pissed if I had to do everything again.

I haven't seen anything from Capcom yet, but there are many players on both platforms reporting it in every SF forum I've read.  Like I said, it's really tough on PS3 users since they can't even copy their game save file to a memory unit!

Powering off etc during any sort of hard drive access operation is always risky on any computer and can result in data becoming corrupted.  I hope ranked match quitters get this all the time.

Note this post is not at all directed to the OP or anyone in particular, is just a general remark.

the whole ranked quitters thing is bullcrap. one of my good xbl friends sh4gz, has only played like ten ranked matches and he's never quit. he doesn't even play ranked and it happened to him randomly after he just beat time trial mode 15 or 16.  it's abuncha junk is what it is.

Exactly, Tankimus.  It's not only quitters that have had their data lost.  It's a serious bug that needs to be fixed.  In a game where you can spend many hours unlocking things, data safety is absolutely critical and I hope Capcom steps up and improves it.

It's a darn shame... Out of all the games, it had to be Street Fighter 4. How can anyone let this happen?

Youre right, it is not only quiters.
I have heard (but do not know for sure) that this happens when someone cuts the game off while saving??
That would also be why it can happen in an online ranked game.
If someone disconnects while the game is trying to save it might erase all their data.
Not saying that is what is happeneing, just kinda wondering.

This just happened to me, and I do not quit from Ranked matches.

I was only 9 trials (5 characters) away from finishing them all too...

I now have 0BP, no characters, no icons, no titles, no stats, no nothing.

This is absolutely ridiculous.  My hard drive is quite new and has no issues to my knowledge.  This is utter bullshit and CapCom needs to fess up about this.  It is clearly a bug of some sort.

Happened to me too. Was super pissed. Also we shouldn't have to back up our saved data. This is getting ridiculous. Least I know I'm not the only one though...

I have been playing games for years and never had a need to back things up.  And, as far as I can tell, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my hard drive (it is only a few months old). Obviously I have learned the lesson.  Other than the XBOX memor sticks, can I use anything else to back data up (USB external hard drive, etc)?

This *** sucks hardcore, but I'll get that damn hard trial achievement if it kills me.

"Shouldn't have to" has nothing to do with it.  The fact is that you DO have to backup your data if you care about it, especially in this game which obviously has problems corrupting its own data.  It's a sad fact, but it's the way it is.  I rotate two memory units in order to be sure that I always have at least one good copy since you could be backing up a corrupted file.

Man that sucks sorry to hear that it happened Capcom should be working on patching this and hopefully they are, because if I was as far as you were I would have some words with someone at Capcom.

Sorry to hear about it bro, lost mine about 3 weeks ago after a ranked win during a save.

I wanted the fighters back but really don't care as much about my BP but did care about tracking my ranked wins but they have been stuck at 208 since the crash even though I have picked up about 100+ wins since then.

Now days I focus more on getting together with friends, having fun, trying to improve and still play ranked just because I enjoy the challenge.

Let's get together in some of my 8 player fighting parties sometimes soon.

Yeah, I don't care about my BP, I can easily get that back.  Its the trials, icons, colors, taunts, etc. that I don't feel like going through again.  Although I started doing the Hard trials and I have clearly improved, because trials that took me 10-15 minutes to complete previously I am finishing in like 30-60 seconds.  So that has been kinda gratifying.

Any idea how your save data was lost?  I'm going to start backing stuff up, but obviously I'd like to avoid this all together if possible.

And I am definately down to play.  Just send me mails over Gamernook or Live.

I had a friend that this happened to on a different game and what he did was when the data finished saving he shut his xbox off without going back to the main menu and then to the dashboard don't know if that really was the cause or if something was actually was wrong with his game data.

I am always down for a game I am not a great player probably average but if you want to play send me a FR

No idea, we both did Ultra's and mine came out second, went to the KO screen then to the medals screen and locked up there, tried many things to unlock it, opened disc try then had to power down which no doubt caused the data loss.

I have heard of RE5 having this problem from a few friends.

As much as I love SF IV, I have to agree that this bug is pretty shameful.  At the very least they should be creating a "last known good" archive copy before writing the new gamesave data.
