Lara's Shadow - SPEED RUNS
Has anyone worked out how much time you have to perform the speed runs in Lara's Shadow?

I want to take the person I am now and find the courage to throw that all away. Strip down to nothing.

You just have to be on the shadow power whenever possible to cut time loss :) especially when hanging on ledges and running etc.

Yeah, there isn't anything to indicate how much time you must do it in, so just storm through as quick as you can :)

No the refinery is before that with the 'bowls of goo' where you have to climb around the outside ledges to get to a platform. The one where 10 or so Thralls spawn. The refinery run only works on the second time through when you have to come back and destroy the transformer. Hope this helps :)

:(  I was hoping you could do it on the first time through so you don't have to deal with all those thralls...

You just have to reach that platform and the achievement should unlock.

Re: Lara's Shadow - SPEED RUNS
Whew. Finally completed Right of Passage. It was starting to get annoying because I started with a practice run to make sure I had the layout of the course understood before making a go of it, and I nearly cleared it on the practice run.

And then, every other go I'd make a stupid mistake. Glad it's over.

1250/1250.

Now I'm sad because that's all the new TR we get until TR9 comes out.

I want to take the person I am now and find the courage to throw that all away. Strip down to nothing.

Hi Kimieva.  I believe that speed run starts immediately after I destroy the tranformer, but where does it end?  I am having trouble with this one.

thanks in advance,
hero

It ends after the room with the coveyor belt like device. You cross the broken belt and slide down the slope before you go back into the restoration chamber. If you did the run correctly the achievement should pop when you land at the bottom of the slope.

Oh and the run doesn't start until after the cutscene when you jump to the pillar. As soon as your feet hit the pillar the clock starts running. But don't ask me how long you got, I have no idea. The main thing to keep in mind is to just relax, take your time and get your timing right and this run will be a piece of cake, And I mean real cake, not the fake one from the Aperature Science Enrichment Center.

Are you sure about this? I didn't start my run until I entered the "unstable passage," like the achievement description says. Once you make the big leap from the last of the transformer mechanism onto the ledge that leads to the corridor, you'll see that the doorway is framed by glowing blue glyphs. That's where I kicked in the shadow power and went full speed ahead.

Which means you have the following obstacles after passing the blue glyphs.

1) Run quickly forward and turn left down the corridor, ignore the thralls that emerge from the pool.
2) Where the corridor ends, leap to the rock vein and slide down to the ledge below. The first spinner trap is here. Carefully avoid it.
3) Drop one more level and slide around to the next corridor.
4) Run straight and turn right through this corridor.
5) Here you will encounter the wall smashers. I got through this by activating shadow power as the walls are closing, and I press against them when they are closed. This way, as soon as they open, I dart through the first half. Careful here, since half of the smashers aren't working. Repeat this for the second half of the working smashers.
6) Move forward and up. Here is the second spinner trap. Carefully move past it and up.
7) Slide around and up again to the final spinner trap. Move up and leapt to the right.
8) This is the final corridor. Run straight and turn to the left, ignoring the Yeti thrall that appears as you reach the corner.
9) Final trap, which is the sectioned conveyor belt with the Eitr emitters. The hardest part here is the inital leap onto one of the platforms. After that, work your way forward and leap to the ledge at the end.
You will get the achievement when you finish sliding down the incline past the ledge.

Re: Lara's Shadow - SPEED RUNS

There's a youtube video here or someone doing both runs for anyone having problems.

I couldn't get the first one to unlock, no matter what I did, so had to resort to cheating. Got this from Tomb Raider Chronicles forum:

"after you've made it about half through the run, where you are on the small platform just above the eitr with the checkpoint, jump ahead to the vein wall, climb all the way up, jump right to the next vein wall, again climb all the way up, then jump to the right. You'll actually fall in the eitr, but you'll trigger the checkpoint for the back of the room and the achievement will pop up."

They're talking about jumping from just before you make your way onto a small high platform where you have to avoid a bubble, if that makes any sense. It worked for me, first time.

Re: Lara's Shadow - SPEED RUNS
I had to cheat for the first one also.  :(  Somehow I just wasn't fast enough.

And I can also confirm what Kimieva said about where the run starts for the second one.  I'm sure the youtube that Love Bandit linked to shows the same thing, but I was lolligagging around, getting the treasure, getting stuck on the pistons to get out but then still got my speed run done.
You can actually save on the broken bridge before you go through the door....that won't mess with the "without saving" clause.  The checkpoint where it starts you when you load your save is actually the last plue platform before you jump to the pistons to get out, which kinda sucks.

Re: Lara's Shadow - SPEED RUNS
I could be wrong (shocker, lol). I managed to do the second speedrun in one try. And I my mind, my starting place was when I hit that pillar sticking out of the blue ooze. Kind of hard for me to go back and test it. Long story short. No I'm not sure. So I would stick with Kimieva's tips on this one and pretty much disregard what I say.

I don't think it's possible to get the achievement if you die while trying.

You can save before the first slope and retry from there if you fail or die.

The second speed run does not start until after you've disabled the machine and have entered the unstable passage. This is the series of corridors that takes you back to where Natla is. My post earlier in the thread gives details on what you need to do to clear them and get the Achievement.

If you are speaking of the first speed run, I believe that holds true as well. It begins after you slide down the slope to the bottom edge and begin the wall crawl to the big platform in the middle of the Eitr.

This actually works. So if you can't get there legitimately, this shortcut will get you the achievement.
