Cyberball 2072 vs. Tournament Cyberball 2072?
Bought the game today, great emulation.  The lack of head-to-head play is disappointing, but it made me wonder if we're simply experiencing truth-in-advertising.

Specifically, I'm thinking of the difference between Cyberball 2072 (the game emulated on 360) and Tournament Cyberball 2072 (the dual-monitor, 4-player version).  I used to own a Tournament machine, but I never owned a 2-player machine.  Were the 2 player machines missing the "tournament" bit of the name?

If so, then I guess we're getting exactly what we paid for... in which case I would respectfully like to request that they make a Tournament Cyberball 2072 version.  :o)

While they're at it, I'd like a season mode (similar to the Genesis version), and a play-editor... but now I'm just getting greedy.  :o)

I've only seen 4 player cyberball, and 4 player tournament cyberball 2072. Never seen just a 4 player cyberball 2072.

I would love a tournament cyberball so I can unload my hulking beast of an arcade game. I'd also love a new cyberball with new graphics, and gameplay options.

According to Wikipedia, Cyberball 2072 and Tournament Cyberball 2072 are the same thing. Cyberball was the first, and 2072 was the upgrade.

I'm guessing that this is the latest iteration of the game, but that emulation with four players was just not possible at any playable speed.

Sorry, I should have looked this up first rather than being lazy and asking everyone else.

It appears that there was a 2-player co-op only arcade machine (and it was in fact missing the "tournament" moniker).  Here's a link to one that is for sale:
  http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/4157

My guess is that the developers started with the ROM for this game (which is different than the ROM for the 4 player version), emulated it, and then added xBox live capabilities (which would explain the lack of head-to-head of any kind).

... I just hope that by some miracle someone decides to make an updated version of the game.  But my worry is that there are only 2 real possibilities:
Game sells well - and the lesson learned is "see, we didn't need head-to-head to make money"
Game sells poorly - and the lesson learned is "there is no money to be had with this franchise, don't bother making an updated version with head-to-head coolness"

Hopefully I'm just being a debbie-downer, as I'd really love to play a version with 2-on-2 and other goodies.

The real problem is perhaps that those who emulated it probably didn't know enough about the game to emulate the right version.. they just heard fans shout 'Cyberball' and did what they had to do.

There's also the possibility that they are shoving out the first Cyberball for extra bling before they serve up the real deal. Sorta like they did with Pac-man before Ms. Pac-man and finally Pac-man CE.

Hopefully it's not the end for Cyberball on XBLA. I'm hopeful.

I cannot believe it...I am quite upset over this. Making Cyberball withot head-to-head is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. The original Cyberball 2072 was only marginally popular...it wasn't until they made it Tournament version that it really shined. Someone somewhere needs to get off their behinds and upgrade it to tournament!!

Bump for great justice.

Seriously, this needs to be fixed.  Even if Tournament becomes its own 400 point download (although as a 200 point "update" to this game it would likely make more money, in addition to not killing all sales of the current crap forever), it'd be good enough.  We NEED online head-to-head.  It can be done on a decent PC with Kaillera.  Heck, that could be done five years ago (although computers at the time didn't quite run it well.)  Now I can run four player multiscreen games using a single video card on my computer at full speed - there's no reason the 360 would not be capable of this, and it isn't even necessary to be capable of two screens when one is going to be across the country...

I support this thread 100%.  WE NEED A TOURNAMENT UPGRADE for HEAD to HEAD vs. play.

I'm grateful for having ANY Cyberball on LIVE but not having Tournament/Head to Head is like drinking Non-alcoholic beer.

I've used Mame/Kaillera (sp) (id = TheWeapon) before on the CPU but it just wasn't the same for me.

Can't let this be forgotten...  I'd spend another 400 points to have proper two on two games in Tournament 2072.

Four month sounds about right...

Did I say another 400 points?  I'd pay 1200, as would a lot of people, for a game that can be easily emulated and network syncing wouldn't be too terribly tough to do.  I guess I'm officially done with any game with Midway or associated companies names on it until they correct their stupidity.

Still waiting, still wanting to pay 1200 points for a proper version.
