problem with airtel
Hi, I have just got airtel broadband setup at home with their Beetel 450BX wifi router. I am however now unable to log onto xbox live. It does all the connection and when checking the status of Live says a new download is required to be downloaded, but then the download screen appears and it hangs for 20-30 sec and sauys it cant download and to chk the connection. My connection are all working fine and am on the new xbox dashboard. Just wanted to know if others have had the same problem and how they resolved it. Thanks

Re: problem with airtel
I'm using the same connection and here is how i have set my router to connect xboxlive.
*Connect your laptop or deskop to the router using a wired cabe(don't connect with wireless)
*Open internet explorer
*enter this address in the addres bar   198.162.1.1
*When they will ask u for login information enter
     username :   admin
     password :  password
*press after entering those details press enter
* u will see the configuration page of the router
*Go to advanced setup
*then NAT
* And then select DMZ Host
*Now go on your xbox 360 network setting and u should have set the network manually, if so just copy the ip entered in your xbox 360 and go back to your pc or laptop.
*Enter this ip in the field in DMZ Host and press Apply.
*Now go to Management and select " Save and Reboot"
* wait for sometime and also restart your xbox360.
* Run the test for the xbox live and it should be working perfectly.

Let me know if it's working

Re: problem with airtel
Well, firstly thanks for the suggestions. I tried them but unfortunately it still doesn't work. In the test it shows that the connection to the router is established, then to the internet as well but when connecting to XBOX Live it shows a green progress bar, which fills to about 50 %. A pop-up then arrives saying that a critical update is required to be downloaded before signing into XBOX Live would be possible. However when I accept the download, after about 30 sec of showing the download progress bar, it says the download can't be completed and to check network settings or to goto xbox.com/update. I have tried this multiple times but still no joy. My MTU is set at 1492 as well. I am not sure if I need to NAT the ports 88 and 3074 as read on some forums and also how to do this. Any help would be much appreciated, but atleast now I know it works with airtel :) PS: any chance that its because I have a 256 kpbs connection and maybe I need to have it increased o 512

Re: problem with airtel
The connection you are going for is very good for online play with Indians. Just make sure you dont go for Wi-fi. Instead, just use an ethernet cable to connect to LIVE on the 360. The speeds on Wifi completely depends on the distance between your router and the Xbox.

No, problemo. I have now setup the wi-fi router near to my room with xbox, and its all been working like a charm. Been busy on COD:wAW and have not faced any issues. My only gripe with the whole experience is with Microsoft wherein the content on Live for India atleast, is really quite bad.

Awesome! and yup, i agree with you that the content for the Indian marketplace is really bad but its not just India.....countries like New Zealand have more or less the same amount of content available...but im sure things will get better in a few years/months.

Re: problem with airtel
airtel connections are good..the only thing bad abt them is the bad upload speed, compared to a tata indicom.
using wifi is a good option, but an expensive one.. one of our systems is connected via wifi and it works flawlessly.. as good as the ethernet cable or better..

if u are talkin of localized content then we really don't have anything.. but we do now get most DLC's on our marketplace, and it definately be bigger and better in the future..jus a matter of time.

Re: problem with airtel
wifi does translate into higher value of ping, which is not a very good thing.. test your connection with a lan and then with wifi on speedtest.net and ull figure what im talking about... and after seeing how much my friends lag on xbl, this is the list from fastest to slowest...ping is slightly unrelated to your ul/dl speeds.. 1. tata indicom 2. bsnl 3. airtel 4. mtnl well, its a close one between bsnl and airtel, but tata indicom is by far the best, when it comes to ping and hosting games...

Re: problem with airtel
Prior to today when I was plagued by MTU issues, I used to use my laptop and a cat 5 cable to the 360 with a shared connection. I have the basic airtel account (for now) and I managed a few hours of enjoyable GoW with a few friends in Pennsylvania. Admitted it wasn't as great as playing agains't someone here in India, but fairly enjoyable.

Ofcourse now, Live is being a pain in my quantum singularity.

I have the absolute base connection right now, the 256. I was planning on upping it, and still am, but that's once I get a few other things sorted first.

Truth is, its pretty playable. I won't lie COD4 might be smoother playing with Indian players, but I've been playing a few friends from college (in the US) and Its been pretty good - not phenomenal, but pretty good - very enjoyable and that includes voice chat as well. But I also tend to play mostly at night to sync with them, if that makes a difference.

Re: problem with airtel
Hey, Im using Airtel as well... i have a 1mbps speed connection ( limited surfing of 8GB) ... now i followed the steps as you showed... n i connect to live, the only thing being that the update failed. I updated my dashboard a few days back, via a USB pen drive. My xbox is asking for another update, but it fails. I called microsoft and tried to solve this for atleast 4 1/2 hours. but all they said was that they have tried all the suggestions. They gave me the URL to the forum.. please help me!!!!
* The DMZ setting part. Now my Ip address and all was set on automatic. it connects but the update fails. When i enter the IP manually, it fails at Network and says, Cannot connect with static IP. now im confused what to put in the DMZ setting. Please Help!!!!!

Re: problem with airtel
the issue might be that since you have already done a update with your pen drive, the update may be faulty try to connect to live by detaching your hard drive and if you can borrow /purchase a Memory unit and download the update again
