Hi all,
I want to revisit a topic we've touched base on before –
stats resetting.
With Title Update 2, we implemented some improvements to help recover
from instances of data corruption, but it has not entirely eliminated
the problem. As such, there are still some cases reported on the forums
and through our customer support department.
First, I want to
say that we sympathize with the users who have experienced this. We
know how disappointing it is to lose stats, and we are working very
hard on a solution. Fortunately, stats resetting is a very rare
occurrence - of the millions of users who have logged on with the game
and the hundreds of millions of sessions logged with stats, the number
of incidents reported is in the low hundreds. Since the first report on
this issue, our test department and development team have been
attempting to reproduce it with zero success, neither in the test lab
nor in playing the game at home. As such, instrumenting a fix to an
issue that we are unable to witness firsthand is an incredibly risky
venture. (Reference sticky post that explains the TU process)
Although
we cannot say with 100% certainty due to the fact that we have never
been able to reproduce the issue, the most probable cause is data
corruption that happens in the normal process of transit across the
network and reading/writing from the server. Regardless of the cause,
we are working on a new system for the next Title Update (timing is
still TBD) which stores backup copies of your profile (much like System
Restore in Windows will save snapshots of your system configurations).
In the event data corruption is detected, instead of resetting your
stats, the last known "good" state of your MP profile will be
retrieved, and will restore automatically.
For the vast majority
of you, this will never be noticed. But for anybody who has encountered
stats resetting before (despite how unlikely it is that it will happen
to you again) - should it, you will have this new safety net in place.
We
sympathize with any of you who have experienced this, but unfortunately
until we deploy the next Title Update, there is no way to recover your
previous rank. Due to the complexities of the work involved here, the
development of this system will take time. However, it is better to get
it right than to potentially spread this problem to a larger slice of
players.
Steps to help reduce your risk of stats resetting:
- Do not restart your Xbox mid-match.
- Do not unplug your network cable while in-game for any reason.
- Do not “Dashboard” mid-match (i.e. at the end of match to avoid a “Loss” on your service record).
- Quit out of a lobby after a match before turning off your console.
We are very appreciative of your continued support and feedback, and thanks for playing Call of Duty: World at War!
Regards,
-JD
