I am not clear if using your allies, Claire for example, counts toward this achievement. Will it count or does it count as an attack? Every time I play, I always forget to check or I have already attacked during the fight.

I got the achievement, but I didn't use allies, so I'm sorry but I don't know. I just threw a bunch of potions and weapon items at a group of enemies at the World's Fair. It is especially helpful to use the items that make them bleed.
