It's like the game is running half in "demo mode" and the controller inputs are ignored or misinterpreted half the time. It's more like you're making suggestions to Pac Man about the path he should take, rather than controlling him. It's the most bizarre thing I've ever seen in a video game. Has anyone figured out how to control Pac Man with absolute precision in this game? It would be a much better experience if I didn't feel like I was constantly fighting the controls, or just taking a back seat and watching Pac Man do all the work for me.

They blame the controller for them being bad at the game. There is no "magic trick" or "special joystick", just a regular thumbstick. Mastering it is the key to mastering the game. You have to learn how to round all the corners and having a set pattern (sort of) enables this as the turns soon become second nature, even at the higher speeds near the end.Sorry I just hate it when I hear people blame controllers for why they are not so good. Everyone is playing the same game some are better than others of course. This game as I am finding takes ALOT of practice. I doesn't feel to me one bit that my pacman is in "demo mode", as you put it. Any mistake made is made by me not the control or not the fact I was "taking a back seat and watch Pac Man do all the work for me" lol..If you want to see how its done go to YouTube and watch the high scorers. They will show you that mastery is possible in this game but with practice and alot of it.
Ok mate sorry if I came off a little harsh. A little harsh is the only way to get your point across when communicating with someone you don't know. I will highlight the sentence in your post that highlights some of my previous points well "I actually played it finally for the first time for real this last weekend, when a visiting relative brought their 360 with them".I don't want to sound arrogant but I am basing my arguments on what seems like hundreds and hundreds of hours of play. You are basing this "phenomenon"(your word, not mine) on having played it one time and the one view of your friend. So I really do now realise that I have indeed been wasting my time when that line alone that I highlighted pretty much null and voids every argument you have. I will say it again. The control in this game is not a flaw. It is integral to mastering the game. Notice how all the sides of the maze are curved?? There is a reason for this. Also PacMan never turns corners on his own. Your saying you let go of the controller completely and Pacman went through the maze all by himself?? Im sorry but I still stand by my original call of BS, and again I am basing this on alot of experience of playing this game. Something you have virtually zero of.
34 years old is still a spring chicken in the world of video games IMO....LOLI know I have had a time or two playing CE when the controller failed me...so I'll stop short of saying the controller is not an issue whatsoever. That said I simply would suggest that it is something that takes a bit of getting used to.When I played in the Xbox 360 Pac-Man U.S. Regional, my very first game of Pac-Man (I actually had to buy a brand-new 360 for the contest) yielded a mere 43,000. At the time that put me in 114th place. I had to really experiment and play constantly for a number of hours just to figure out the best way to hold and utilize the controller. It wasn't until I was able to "control the controller" that I was able to start improving, eventually qualifying for the finals in NYC.Championship Edition does present a challenge because it gets REALLY fast in the latter stages. I would recommend working on anticipating your path...so you can be holding the controller in the desired direction BEFORE reaching the turn itself. It's a hard thing to master, but it does come easier and easier the more you play.
