There *is* a way to continue to perform backups on Xbox 360, initially tested by a wonderful human being on the SRK forums.
From the dashboard, go to the hard drive / memory utility just as you would when performing a copy. Instead of doing a copy, MOVE the two (there are now two post-update) gamesave files from your hard drive to your memory unit. Once that is completed, you will no longer have the gamesaves on your hard drive. With the memory unit still plugged in, run the game and it will detect that you have no gamesave file so it will prompt for a location. Pick your memory unit and everything will load up properly. At that point, pull out your memory unit and then do something that will generate an auto-save (like change your title or icon by pressing RB). When it does the save, it will ask if you want to create a new gamesave. Obviously, say yes. Done.
Well, i'm doing it the other way (funny though, that no one ever comes up with the idea, because i backup my
SF4 for month now with this method). Without a save on the memory card unit, start SF4, and let the game
load your save file like normal from your HDD. Then, go to the options and select the "change save file location"
option. I know change to the pluged in memory card unit (which has NO SF4 save file) and the game will
tell you something like "no save file found, create one?" after that, you got your current SF4 progress recorded
on your memory card unit. Switch back to HDD and continue playing ;)
If its time for a new backup, just delete your backup save from the memory card unit first before doing the
same procedure again. It's really easy (and very obvious), i never thought of a kind of copy protection.
