Game save deleted itself!!!
I've only had this game a couple of weeks. So far I had unlocked Sakura, and Dan. I had completed several time attack challenges and character trials. I had completed the game with Ken, Ryu Sakura and Sagat. I turned on my console just now and signed in. I started the game and it said no game save data found!!! I went to the console dashboard and checked the hard drive and sure enough it's gone!! Just like that! I have no idea whatsoever where it went. Before you ask no I did not delete it accidently. I last played on my 360 2 days ago (Street fighter IV) and it was fine. It was there then. I checked all my other game saves and I don't see anything else missing. The only thing that's saved are my acheivements as they are held on microsoft servers and not my console. Suffice it to say I'm annoyed that my game save can just vanish like a fart in the wind. I haven't unlocked that much stuff but that's beside the point. It's going to be a pain in the *** to do it all again. Some of the stuff is really difficult like airbrone Hurrican kicks in challenge trial mode. Ultimately I am just perplexed that a game save can just go poof and disappear. Never in my considerable years of gaming have I seen this. Has anyone got any idea why this may have happened? Has this happened to anyone else?
My very first Xbox 360 died after less than 10 minutes today 12/11/2008. Impressive start eh?

Did you turn off the console before it finished saving?

I don't believe that I did. To be perfectly honest I can't rule that 100% though. What I sometimes do is switch my monitor from HDMI (360) to DVI mode (PC) before pressing the console power button. I know it's risky but I just tried to reproduce it. What I did is completed some easy challenge trials and try to switch off in the middle of the save. First time it didn't work. Save data was still there. Second time I pressed power during saving data appearing on screen. Third time it worked. Save data was gone. This time though I pressed the power button within a split second of seeing the saving data on screen. Although I can't rule it out 100% the split second timing needed and having just read those threads you linked I'm inclined to think that this is a result of the alleged bug and not my fault. Not that it makes any difference. Data is gone either way. Thanks for your replies.

Damn that's brutal yo. I don't think it's possible to get your data back, but I think just be cautious next time to avoid it. The scary thing is, I don't believe we know how to.

Either way, I feel your pain.

I had 1 normal and hard trial left for Gen to get the two trial achievements, but my data got wiped out the other day. But oh well. Back to working on the trials :)

That sucks.  My data got wiped too.  I was 9 hard trials away from all of them.  Interestingly, I blasted through them the second time around and I'm now down to 5, so I'm not too upset.

Those Viper ones really have me worried...

I guess it's time for the resident Mister Backup to come in here and recommend regular memory unit backups.  They're cheap ($15 shipped from ebay) and easy.  Data loss can happen any time, especially with hard drives.  Protect your important data today! Cool [H]

I've been backing up my data by copying it to a memory card in case something ever goes wrong with my HD.  So many things I did in the challenges I don't even want to think about doing again.... then again, I think Gen's Hard #5 would keep me from ever completing the hard trials.

I wish I would've done what Warp told me to do..

My trials got wiped out AGAIN. But not my BP/GP/CP?

Only going to do Balrogs(already finished) and Vipers just so I can get my icons/titles for those characters back.

Stuck on Viper's Hard 5. It kills me when I do the whole combo....then do the ultra too early.. Crying [:'(] I can do everything up until the EX Seismo Jump consistantly. High Jump Canceling into Heavy Burn Kick is 50/50 for me with the required method of jump canceling..

Well, since the update we can no longer backup the gamesaves!  So perhaps one thing you could do would be to back out the patch, then play the "old" game and unlock whatever you want, then back THAT up, then apply the update.  If/when the game corrupts itself you can at least revert back to that pre-update state. shrug

Capcom really messed up...

I was just going to comment on this too.  If CapCom is too stupid to create a game that doesn't corrupt/lose its save files so easily, they should at least allow us to back them up properly.

Un-***-believable...

You can use it for all your other games...it's just SF IV that's broken.

SF IV is the only reason I bought the card.  And because of all your posts.  It's your fault!!!Smile [:)]  Hopefully Capcom fixes the problem.

Yeah, I bought an extra card just for this game, but I still hold out some small hope that they'll realize the error of their ways.

Re: Game save deleted itself!!!
There *is* a way to continue to perform backups on Xbox 360, initially tested by a wonderful human being on the SRK forums. Big Smile [:D]

From the dashboard, go to the hard drive / memory utility just as you would when performing a copy.  Instead of doing a copy, MOVE the two (there are now two post-update) gamesave files from your hard drive to your memory unit.  Once that is completed, you will no longer have the gamesaves on your hard drive.  With the memory unit still plugged in, run the game and it will detect that you have no gamesave file so it will prompt for a location.  Pick your memory unit and everything will load up properly.  At that point, pull out your memory unit and then do something that will generate an auto-save (like change your title or icon by pressing RB).  When it does the save, it will ask if you want to create a new gamesave.  Obviously, say yes.  Done.

Aha, quite sneaky; but I like it! I'll definitely have to do this now that I'm attempting the challenges again.

Well, i'm doing it the other way (funny though, that no one ever comes up with the idea, because i backup my
SF4 for month now with this method). Without  a save on the memory card unit, start SF4, and let the game
load your save file like normal from your HDD. Then, go to the options and select the "change save file location"
option. I know change to the pluged in memory card unit (which has NO SF4 save file) and the game will
tell you something like "no save file found, create one?" after that, you got your current SF4 progress recorded
on your memory card unit. Switch back to HDD and continue playing ;)

If its time for a new backup, just delete your backup save from the memory card unit first before doing the
same procedure again. It's really easy (and very obvious), i never thought of a kind of copy protection.
