No luck with this update, still no sound via HDMI.

I have the same tv and have the HDMI going straight to the tv. I updated and no change. But today I gave it another try and removed the 360 audio adapter, started it up with the Y + rt trigger trick and sound worked.

Now it works every time as it did prior to NXE. I put the audio adapter back in, started it without any tricks and it still works.

Problem solved for me.

Yeah, I jumped the gun. It didn't work initially, but as I was powering down the system today, it restarted by itself, and I unplugged my component cables, and put the HDMI in...and sure enough, it works now.

finally!!!!!!!!! just did the update and finally have sound now thank god!. it only took what felt like a year. now i dont have to do the annoying harddrive pull trick everytime, my harddrive release button thanks you.

and i agree with what others said, i have some real nastty experiances with those tech people over there (minus one or two) and i feel like a lil comp would be nice for the annoyance i had to endure for WAY to long.

*rant*

I didn't have any HDMI issues at all prior to this week's update, but whatever "fix" they made absolutely screwed up the connection to some other TVs, including my Vizio SV470XVT.

Everything was fine before, but now I have no audio over HDMI, and instead of "HDTV Settings" in the Display settings, I have "Screen Resolution" with a bunch of PC-style resolution options (such as 1920x1080 instead of "1080p"). It's seeing my HDTV as a computer monitor now, which was the problem before for others.

I'm most furious because of the hour I spent on the phone with the 1-800-4MY-XBOX drone in India, trying to get at some sort of level 2 tech support so I could explain the issue to someone who understands. I install and calibrate home theater systems for a living and wanted to give ol' Microsoft a friendly heads up that their new update causes more issues, yet I found myself arguing with her over the fact that an HDMI cable does not have an HDTV/Analog switch on it (like the MS component cable does).

In the end, she simply said "I am all there is" after I demanded that I speak to someone at level two or in engineering. Incredible.

Anyone else having new issues after the update?

Jeeezz, that sucks man. The latest update fixed my sound issue for mem but maybe the post below could be helpfull for  you. I hope they will bring up a fix for your issue a lot fatser then they did mine. ;)

As Lucky stated, it'd be really useful if people who are still having issues could provide a little more detail about their setup.  Not only what kind of display device you're using, but how it's connected - are you connecting through an A/V receiver?  Using an HDMI switchbox?  Etc.

I am connected directly to a Vizio SV470XVT 47" LCD HDTV with the official Microsoft HDMI cable. I had no issues at all prior to the February update – then this "fix" broke something. After the update, I have no audio and the resolutions are listed PC-style, indicating 1920x1080 instead of 1080p. These are the same issues others were experiencing before.

Resetting the video with Y+RT on startup restores HDTV Settings and audio functionality ... until I shut down the Xbox and/or TV, at which point the issues return. Basically, the 360 now fails to recognize my LCD as an HDTV, instead approaching it as a computer monitor. I have tried all four HDMI ports on the Vizio to see if any behave differently. No luck.

Since this was rolled out as a required Dashboard update, I have no way to revert or remove the offending files. Nothing else in my setup has changed in months. Please, MS, take a good long look at what has been done because I'm going to guess that nearly as many people got stung by this "update" as were affected by the original configuration – they just haven't started complaining yet.

That's the outrageous reality. In my opinion it would be better to offer no support at all than to outsource it to some 3rd world country in order to save costs. What you end up with is a place you can call but that doesn't solve your problem and makes you furious.

Re: Never had problems until AFTER the Feb. HDMI update
I have my box connected directly via hdmi into a Philips 32" LCD, never had any problems with the new dash audio or video, switched on my xbox and downloaded the new update yesterday before going on-line, then after about 10 or so minutes on free-for-all the screen goes all fuzzy (best way I can describe it) lots of different colours over the screen, and all I HAVE is audio, which is much more annoying than not having audio!!!, So I had to reboot, then it did it again after another 10 or so minutes, then again! All I got from MS today was an "oh dear, sounds like you need to get it repaired"! no sh!t sherlock! but what about the fact that this is clearly due to their poxy MANDATORY update for everyone because of an issue for people using BenQ monitors?! WTF! is anyone having this issue?? Please MS fix it and quick!

Re: Never had problems until AFTER the Feb. HDMI update
My problem is probably unique and not as big as everyone else but I may not be alone. I have a sharp aquis (forgive me I am at work on my iPhone) 42" 1080p. I have a Sony surround sound (the $400 model that couples with their entry blu ray player). On the reciever for the SS I have it pass the audio through to the tv so at night I can mute and play the sound through wireless headphones. Neighbors don't like 1000 watts at 3 am. Worked before the update. Doesn't now. The audio comes through the SS not the TV (where the headphones have to be plugged in.) PS3, TV, Mac Mini, and record player all work.

I strongly advise everyone in this thread seeking adequate support to NOT do this.

Not only will you waste at least an hour of your time, you will be incorrectly asked to send your system in for repair. The customer support that Microsoft has outsourced in India is not in any way fully aware of this issue and will give you the runaround until they ultimately incorrectly tell you that it is a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue.

Instead, only call in and immediately ask for a reference number if you do not have one already. Do not speak with them any further after this. You will get nowhere.

Once you have your reference number, call 1-866-506-3826. This will connect you with an American Customer Support person who will be able to give you more help than the canned and useless responses the Indian support staff will continually give you.

I didn’t have an HDMI issue before, but now I have a slightly annoying issue. About every other time I turn my Xbox on I have no sound. It can be resolved by shutting it down and turning it back on. But now I am stuck with turning on my Xbox twice almost every time I want to play. So now i increased my on/off cycle failure by one third. Microsoft may have to fix the fix.

I've had problems with two different Xbox 360's now, both with the inability to play audio via hdmi cord, my brother on the other hand has no such problem which irks me off just a bit.  After the Feb. update my audio came back and it was good times with smooth sailing, now I turned my 360 on about 5 mins ago from this post and theres no sound.  What the f*ck!? I'm connected to a Vizio via HDMI cord on a month old 360.  holding RT + Y which resolved past issues isn't working now either..It's not that big of a deal to use my component cables but dammit, this isn't right.

Sorry, but to what use? Has it changed anything so far? Did anyone get a useful answer?

All the info needed for this issue is here in this thread - and it's info that apparently does not reach the support agents because when you call them up they don't know what you're talking about. What you go through is the standard support procedure and the the well known dead end.

Re: No Audio at All post-NXE for HDMI connection to BenQ G2400W Monitor (via headphone jack) - now fixed with latest update
The latest update seems to have resolved the issue - the sound now works via the HDMI cable on the initial boot-up of the 360 box when connecting to my Insignia plasma (looks like it is made by Samsung).  And it is defaulting to the right resolution of 1080, so all is good so far.  The RT+Y at bootup worked well as a bypass for me (sometimes it was a pain to get the timing right, as I found it was best to wait to do the RT+Y right when the controller linked to the console - ie: press RT+Y as soon as the single green outer ring light became lit).

Add another person who had no problems whatsoever before, but now after the "fix" has audio problems.

I have a Sony Bravia (I believe it is a KDS-50A3000) and I have the HDMI hooked up to the tv, and then out to a receiver.  It was FINE, and now it cuts in and out, and sometimes even when it is working, it has little hiccups or skips or something.  VERY annoying.  Can I please just change back to the "pre-fix" dashboard?

I'm in the same boat with my 42 Vizio XVT.  Worked great until the new update.  Called support and they told me to get a new xbox, since the one I had was only a few weeks old.  I searched around for another jasper pro model and finally found one only to have the same problem again.  I wish I had found this thread before I went to several different wal-marts.

Re: Never had problems until AFTER the Feb. HDMI update
Just to update on my previous. Initially the issue I was having was that the screen would go a sort of digital fuzzy after about 10-15 min play, this time gap got narrower on the 2nd day, and then I got the full works! 3 flashing red quadrants, and an error message E-73. Now, I don't KNOW for sure, but, this started happening immediately after updating with the hdmi audio update, make your own mind up as to wether you'll risk it or not if you haven't already.
The thing I will say is that I am having it sent back to MS for repair free of charge (very nice of them) because apparently this combination - 3 red flashing quadrants, and E-73 - is covered by a 3 year warranty. But I would have rather this never happnened obviously, not only as I now have to wait up to 3 weeks for my xbox back, but also because I'm dubioous as to wether or not it will be entirely fixable. And whether my hdmi will work after.
Good luck everyone.
