I'm sorta glad they closed down 3D realms and kicked George Broussard to the curb because that company hasn't done *** since 1996. Hopefully Take two will let another company finish Duke Nukem forever.
I'm pretty sure 3-D Realms (or Apogee) owns the rights to DUKE NUKEM and Take TWO was the PUBLISHER. If not then I guess myself and shacknews is wrong. Either way you should think before you speak.

True Take Two owns the rights to publish Duke Nukem forever but Take Two also helped fund the project.
3D realms has been on life support for 12 years and since they haven't really done much but release a few screen shots and a lame a$$ trailer for DNF, Take Two cut there funding effectively cutting of there life support.
M8DMAN do you get paid before you complete work? I mean I have been working for like a very long time and on rare occassions does anyone get paid in advance for work that will be completed. I can get an advance on my paycheck.....oh, but wait then again they hold a week or more worth of pay at one job so that kind of is a security blanket....meaning that since they hold a weeks worth of pay, they are not really putting up any money or funding. As for 3D Realms and take two, publishers rarely put money up for a developer to make a game. Why don't you ask Alan Lewis (this would be take twos VP of corporate of communications and public affairs) Here is the link
http://games.on.net/article/5831/3D_Realms_Closes_Duke_Nukem_disappears_foreverAlan Lewis: "It is the Company's policy to not comment on its contractual relationships, nor do we comment on rumors and speculation. That said, we can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title. In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever." (this was taken from the above link word for word)
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, think before you speak. People want to criticize games because they are lacking this or lacking that. Obviously you have never played a Duke Nukem game, because if you had you would have appreciated the fact that it was a "COMPLETE" game. It wasn't none of this developers rushing out and just dropping something out just so it sells...think every NEED for Speed after Need for Speed:Most Wanted. We complain when we feel we have been jipped (or ripped off) when we buy a game and it lacks. Then people want to complain when it takes TOO LONG for a game to come out. I would rather the GAME take LONGER to come out and have the bugs worked out and be a COMPLETE game that I ENJOY, rather than a RUSH job that got it to a store shelf to SELL.
I'll admit 12 years is a long time for development, at the same time you have to keep in mind that As far as Duke Nukem goes, that is their bread and butter, their cash crop (Duke Nukem meant so much to them that is why they had their floor done with the Duke Nukem Symbol). 3d Realms only wanted the best for their character and their fellow fans and gamers. 3D REALMS was doing what they did best...They were only going to bring out the biggest, baddest, most wise-crackin shooter of all times out, it was a game that was going to be so revolutionary that it would again set standards WHERE GAMES SHOULD BE AT. Also at the same time as technology became better they had to start over from scratch so it did not appear "outdated".
I'll ask again, please think before you speak, or atleast do the research so you can atleast act like you know what you are talking about. Just for the record it is hard to cut funding when none has been provided.
Man sure is fanboy in here. Quit attacking me fanboy.
Also Duke Nukem was one of the first 3D games besides Doom that i played. To me Duke Nukem 3D was one of the best games ever made but after all the *** 3D realms pulled i stopped supporting the series.
I'm not attacking you. I was just pointing out that 1-Take two only owns rights to publish/3d realms owns right to Duke Nukem Name and 2--Take Two Did not FUND the development of Duke Nukem forever.
The only thing I am pointing out is that (since you have played the original Duke nukem)is this:
1) Duke Nukem 3D (Total Meltdown) was 3 chapters (28 levels)
2) The Plutonium Pak (aka Atomic edition) added a 4th chapter (another 11 maps)
3) Duke! Zone added 500 levels on top of that
4) Duke Zone 2
5) Various other levels were created including Duke it out in DC (has Bill Clinton in it...lol)

http://www.answers.com/topic/duke-nukem-3dAll I am really getting at here is that games like Oblivian, Gears of war, Gears of War 2, and Fallout. Are all great games. They have their own little niche. Every game listed has been a break thru and has added significantly to the next gen experience of gaming. Most of these titles lack one common thing.....ADD ONS. Sure you can get the shivering isles (oblivion), Map Packs (Gears of war and GOW2), and the addon areas for Fallout 3( i can't say much about these map add ons, because to be honest I haven't downloaded or played them). Most of these packs include one area (or one giant level--as in shivering isles) or six or seven Multiplayer maps to a map pack (as in the case of GOW & GOW2). The one that comes closest is HALO 3 (I have neither played or downloaded this game or any map packs, but I know there are quite a few map packs available) and this (to my knowledge has not got an expansion pack with 500 levels released (as was the case with DUKE! ZONE--500 levels).
I'm just saying like it or not Duke Nukem 3D still sets a standard as far as how developers should release an actual upgrade/expansion/map pack to a video game. For instance Gears of war 2 "combustible map pack" has three add on maps for 800 microsoft points ($10) or $3.33(rounded) per map. Where as the first expansion for Duke nukem was DUKE! ZONE (500 maps) for $29.95-$39.95 or (even going with the 39.95 higher price tag) equaled $0.08/per map. And yes Duke! ZONE was created by fans of Duke Nukem, but it was also an Authorized Edition (Meaning 3d Realms was gamer friendly---let their source code out). While these map packs for Duke Nukem were only for PC, I'm just saying I would much rather pay 40 bucks (3200 microsoft points) for 500 levels, rather than 10 bucks (800 microsoft points) for 3 levels.
Basically I think the standard of video gaming in a lot of cases has increased visually or graphics wise, but decreased in the content. I'm just sick of a game that can be beat in six hours, no support (as in new downloadable content/limited expansion), and the fact that most developers (even ones with known games/series) are straying from their roots. Like it or not Duke nukem without 3D Realms would be like Mickey Mouse without Disney...it would just be unamerican.
