What retro xbla would you like to see released

VEGEMITE 98 05-11-2009, 9:10 AM
With the constant 1200mp games coming out I was thinking what retro titles would you like to see released and why? and would you prefer the game to be it's original self or an updated one? Personally I would like to see Moon Patrol, a classic game which had you drive this car across the moon jumping over various objects which hindered your progress. a basic game yes, but it had good gameplay for what it offered at the time, and it's a game that would not need to be updated graphically, unless they wanted to do it like they did scramble, then that would be fine. XBLA needs some more 400mp games!

Most of my favorites have been released or soon upcoming (TMNT: Turtles in Time).

The other arcade favorites i would like to see get released are stuck in copyright oblivion eg: The Simpsons Arcade game, NBA JAM, Terminator 2: The arcade game etc.

Others i'd love to see come out: Final Fight, Chase HQ, Saturday night slammasters, Sunset Riders, Toughman Contest, Lethal Enforcers, Double Dragon 2,  X-Men vs Streetfighter (i'll settle for Marvel vs Capcom 2 for now though).

Branching off to console / pc titles GTA / GTA 2, Toe Jam & Earl, Road Rash, PGA Tour 1 - 3 (old school!! - loved the skins mode in PGA Tour 2), Mutant League Football & Mutant League Hockey.

I agree with Joel. Wonderboy would be fantastic. Even Wonderboy 2 was pretty good.

Not what I would like to see, but what I wanted to see in retro titles. I am disappointed in both Lode Runner and Space Invaders. Both should have just been reproductions of the original arcade titles. But the fact they have barely hung onto what the games originally were are disappointing to me.

But that could just be the grumbles of an old man who was around when they first came out. If you going to release retro titles, keep them original. All this flash, wham and bam are not needed on real classic titles.

Yeah Daytona would be good, but I shudder to think what they would change.

These would have to be a must, but they would to be the arcade version, not the dodgy looking nes version, was wonder boy 2 the rpg one? as that one was awesome, spent many a 20c on that one!

I would have to agree with you 100%, space invaders should NEVER have gone extreme, it looks and plays wrong. The Lode runner I remember was on the mac and although the graphics was a bare minimum the gameplay was there. this time the graphics has killed it. I am all for updating games to a point. but when it takes it away from what it was it can't be classed as a retro game anymore I think the only games that have done well in updating it was Galaga Legions and Pacman CE.

Black Tiger (as Ducky and I have discussed many times) is *** awesome! But sadly unknown and unappreciated by the masses.

C'mon Capcom! Your best game EVER deserves a face lift for XBLA!

I know this is lazy but below is my response to a similar viewpoint in another thread:

After reading your OP and comments (name omitted), I do find it hard to disagree with you even though I do actually like the game..Developers I think tread a very fine line when making these sorts of remakes. They have to appeal to likes of me and you, who remember throwing 20c coins into games like this, Galaga, Defender while also taking into account the younger MegaDrive-PS1 generation who look at these old games as they were and laugh at their god awful graphics and chunky gameplay.

The one game that got this balance down perfectly (imo) was PacMan CE, which after reading some articles about the development of the game was heavily influenced by the games original designer. I remember reading one of the developers say something like "We had like 50 different ideas that we wanted to do different to the original, but the original creator was stubborn and would only accept 3". This is why they nailed it in my opinion, its still essentially the same old PacMan, the game that was so popular when it was first created, but just "modern".

I wrote in another thread about my Space Invader complaints, like the whole "phsychadelic" look I am really not a fan of. Also the button press to shoot makes it not as fun to play imo. Pushing up on right thumbstick to fire would have been alot better.

But I did love how they kept the old pixelated look of the enemies even though there are not as many on the screen. The reason for this is that the whole dynamic of the game has changed. Instead of just clearing enemies and moving onto the next level, its now about hitting "combos", activating bonus stages etc..I think the main reason you and others are disapointed with this game is that is does tend to stray away from the original and how it was.

It think alot of these games could be kept "original" with a simple graphical upgrade but a few changes here and there doesn't hurt sometimes.///

But in response to your OP, I would love to see either Centipede or Millipede get the "evolved" treatment. Also I look at a game like River Raid and see alot of potential.

I know that Centipede and Millipede has been released, but it was nothing more than a graphical upgrade. While I do have alot of fond memories playing these games as a kid for hours on end, its hard to play them "as they were" now because of what comparisons we can make.

I to would like to see Wonderboy with updated graphics but still the same game, Daytona, Bubble Bobble which is being released as Bubble Bobble Neo hopefully similar to the Bubble Bobble plus on Wii,  also The next TMNT

That wasn't a port, it wasn't made by sega. it was made by hudson and pretty much a copy except where you could ride dinosaurs. just like Gianna Sisters and Mario Bros.

Maybe they could make Gianna sisters for live arcade
