DIRT - Microsoft Steering Wheel

Hi all,

I realise that Dirt has been out now for sometime, however as I have converted majority of my games over from PS3 to 360 and now only have exclusives such as MGS4 and Uncharted. My Q is my wife bought me the 360 Racing Wheel and I went to play Dirt this morning, however the force feedback does not tend to be as good as I have used it for Forza 2 the other day.

I went into the setup of Dirt, however I do not understand any of this stuff that I will write down. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has the knowledge of the correct setup or what it should be for this wheel in Dirt.

Here goes, this is what the setup has:

FORCE FEEDBACK

Force Strength: On

Force ???  In the middle

Effects Strength: In the middle

WHEEL ADVANCE

Steering deadzone:  0%

Steering saturation: 80%

Steering Lineaity: ?0%

Accelaration Pedal Deadzone: 0%

"      "               "     Saturation: 100%

Brake Pedal Deadzone: 0%

"       "      "   Saturation: 100%

Sorry for the long winded question, however I would like to get this setup correct, that is why I have asked. Hope to here from someone real soon have a great day

cheers

Use the Search function. I can't be arsed re-typing all my settings, especially when they are already on this forum.

If your still having problems with turning up any Search results, then post again and I will re-type my settings.

Re: DIRT - Microsoft Steering Wheel
Apologies if my initial post seemed a little harsh (it was a bad day). I'm now back at home and I'll fire up DiRT and check my current settings.

They are as follows...

Force Feedback.
Force=70%
Weight=50%
Effects=30%

Wheel Advanced.
Steering DZ=0%
Steering Saturation =80%
Steering Linearity=20
Pedal DZ=0%
Pedal Saturation=80%
Brake DZ=0%
Brake Saturation=60%

Additional Information on Settings.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Force Feedback and Steering Wheel Setup
------------------------------------------------------------------

As well as saturation and dead-zone controls, the following force feedback wheel options are available in the controller setup screen. Modifying these values may increase the amount of 'oscillation' felt in the force feedback - eg. the wheel vibrating slightly when driving straight.

i) Force Feedback Strength

The overall strength of force feedback. Higher values may increase the level of oscillation.

ii) Force Feedback Weight

Higher values make the force feedback feel 'tighter' - only small changes in wheel orientation are required to cause large forces. This increases the perceived strength, but removes some of the subtlety and smoothness.

iii) Steering Linearity

Negative values make the steering concentrated around the centre of the wheel - moving the wheel only a small way will give you most of the steering response, and then moving the wheel all the way to full lock will give only a little more. Positive values do the opposite - moving the wheel around the centre accomplishes little, but as you approach full lock you start to get the full steering effect. Wheel linearity is very much an issue of personal preference. You may find that using negative values requires the force feedback weight to be decreased in order to reduce oscillations.

... I hope that they help?

I have tried playing with the official Xbox 360 Steering Wheel and for me is impossible to get good times with it. Is cool for games like Forza, but for this one is horrible. Just IMO.

I agree with you. The Xbox 360 Steering Wheel doesn't work perfectly with Dirt and most of race game. It works well only with Race Pro IMO.

I have not tried Race Pro yest. But it also works perfect in Forza Motorsport, it works perfectly with simulation racing but not too well with arcade racing games.

I find the wheel works great with this game once you get used to it, very realistic feeling.  I have to say though that the game that works best with the wheel that I've played so far is Forza 2.

I haven't played Race Pro, is it worth picking up?

I think Race Pro is definitely worth picking up for the price its at now.  You can get a used copy for around $15.

Race Pro is not going to feel like a fully polished game with great graphics and an exciting career mode.  This game is strictly about racing.  The physics are awesome and I've found the A.I. to be good.  I think some people judged the game strictly by graphics and presentation and were disappointed (and rightfully so in these areas)-- but if you give it a chance, the racing is a ton of fun.

I feel like this game had a lot more potential to have a dedicated community, but the lack of polish will deter people from picking up Race Pro 2, if they even decide to make another.

It takes forever to get an online race started.  You can practice before the race, and it seems like everytime you spend a good 15 minutes practicing and the hosts never starts the game.  Very frustrating.  There somehow needs to be a time limit for practicing if you select a "quick race".
