On the forums for every released atari xbox live arcade game everybody hates the throttle modes.  Don't get me wrong throttle mode is very challenging.  But its not the kind of challenging in my opinion that's fun or keeps you going.  I mean it would  be cool if they had a mode where theres more enemies and their smarter, but just to make it ridiculously fast makes it stupid.

If anybody who reads this likes throttle modes in the atari games please tell why, because i find it to be more stupid and aggravating then challenging.

Why would they do that.  I personally find it entertaining to play 100 games to get lucky once.  I love the throttle monkey's where you don't even have a split second to move.  Centipede and millipede's spiders sometimes came in so fast that you automatically died.

i didnt have ANY trouble w/ throttle monkey in centipede or missle command. but after reading these posts i'm scared.

that is what i wrote right b4 i played it. the other 2 games i got throttle i only a few tries. but this game is insane. i only tried a few times because it isnt any fun.

Throttle mode is there for those that want a major challenge.

Generally, it's for people who play alot of shmups, and are very fast.

I personally dont find it THAT hard.... I've played ALOT of shmup games, and I am very fast.   And I love a challenge.   My usual score in Trottle for Deluxe ends up being somewhere around 7000-8000, if Im paying enough attention.    Right now, my highest is about 10100  (throttle mode, for Classic, on Deluxe, I'll work on Asteroids Normal later), can be seen on the leaderboards.   And I've only been doing this for about an hour.

 

Games of this type take PRACTICE, and usually lots of it.   I can do this cause I've played games like this to death.   You gotta be ready for LOTS of repetition, if you wanna get good.   That's just how this genre works.

Besides, if you dont like Throttle mode..... and not everyone will.....  just dont play it!   That's what the normal modes are for.     Those are the ORIGINAL versions of the game anyway, which is why you bought it, right?

 

EDIT:   Oooooooorrrrrr, the damn score that was there 5 minutes ago is suddenly gone.    Fah, that means I have to do it AGAIN.     That's just a BIT annoying.    Thank you, Microsoft, thank you very much.

EDIT AGAIN:   Ooooooorrrrrrr, it IS there.    Feh, probably just my modem or router being SUCKY again.   Note to self, replace that dang thing.    Hate it.

Bleah.  No way, Bridget.  For me, the definition of a skill-based game is that somebody skilled could beat my score in a much shorter time than it took me to get.  But TM in this game is nothing like that.  Your score basically depends on how long it takes the saucer to decide to instakill you, and not much else.

The two high-score achievements, on the other hand... those are very much skill-based!  Wish I had enough. :)

I only wish the company spitting out all these retro remakes gave the slightest damn about what we gamers want.  Obviously they only put Throttle Monkey in there to add an extra bullet point to their press releases...

I tryd to use throttle to practice for normal, so my reflexes would be faster.  But 10,000 just seems impossible

I play and love shmups (top ten geowars and others etc) that said I dont care for throttle mode at all for me its more of a luck based thing. Playing throttle mode on centipede + missle command was fine (It was actually playable) but on asteroids its just atrociously bad its so frustrating lol...

Well I don't find the throttle monkey to be to bad.  It gets you frustrated which makes it fun.  Asteroids throttle monkey i thought was alright because the achievement wasn't that bad.  Asteroids deluxe is pissing me off.  I got 12.5k or so once, but it takes to much luck to get there, but throttle is still fun to play at times i think.  Gives you a different perspective of the games.

Throttle monkey on asteroids deluxe evolved is the only thing I play usually.. Lol, when I tried playing regular asteroids deluxe it seemed like slow mo to me. I NEED MY THROTTLE MONKEY!

Throttle mode is stupid. I'm glad there were a couple of people that actually enjoyed the mode, but imo it was cheap way of making it look like they added more options to justify the cost. Skinning the ships to give the "evolved" mode is also lame. Whatever. This is a far cry away from what Namco did, or Taito for that matter.
