New JRPG game: Record of Agarest War: Re-appearance
Well, since I there's isn't any thread or section where can I post this thread. I might aswell post it over here, since it's... well, it's made by the same developer as Spectral Force 3.

Thanks to user yakumoHMJ for pointing me out in this thread.

Taken from Wikipedia:

"Record of Agarest War: Re-appearance (アガレスト戦記, Agaresuto Senki) is a strategy role-playing game. The game is a collaboration between Idea Factory, Red Entertainment and Compile Heart.

The story progresses through various points plotted on a map. By visiting each point, the player has to battle the creatures, complete a quest, visit a town or go through a conversation to advance through the storyline and open up more points.

Fighting plays out like a strategic RPG where each character has his/her own set of moves, but by moving each character to an appropriate square, you can chain characters together and pull off combos. After each round of combat, each character will regenerate AP and accumulate SP points. When enough SP points have been accumulated, characters can unleash special attacks.

The game includes dating sim elements through its "Soul Breed" system which allows the player to create a new character by pursuing a relationship with a female character.
"

I've got the Japanese version of this game and I must say the game looks surprisingly great. Narative dailogues during events makes it satisfying to follow the story. The battle system is similiar to Final Fantasy Tactics (gridwise) & Disgaea (combo).

Soon after I bought the game I found an article that EU will get a release soon. For now it's only stated for the PS3, but I think the 360 will get the translated version afterwards. Both NA & EU.

The article:
"The thought of a Western company localizing and distributing Agarest Senki boggles the mind. Looks like it’s going to happen thanks in part to European bargain bin publisher Midas Interactive.

A rating for Agarest: Generations of War as a PlayStation 3 game popped up in Germany. The name definitely fits. Also, Midas Interactive worked with Idea Factory, the parent company of Compile Heart, in the past by crazily localizing Spectral vs. Generation. The fighting game’s biggest selling point is Neverland characters from Generation of Chaos and Spectral games which were never released in Europe prior to Spectral vs. Generation. Midas Interactive was brazen enough to publish that and localizing Agarest: Generations of War isn’t as weird.

Agarest: Generations of War is a generic strategy RPG that became notable or perhaps, notorious, for its Soul Breed system where you date and mate to make the next generation of heroes. The game got a 12+ rating so it might not be as dirty as it sounds or Midas Interactive cut the suggestive bits. Either way if you’ve been dying to play Agarest Senki you can get the game in Europe sometime in the future.

Hmmm well i got to say i really dont like idea factory's type of games i mean Spectral Force 3 was ok but not great i hated how the grid system was if it was like Final Fantasy Tactics movin system it would have been better..also the story was horrible i hated the whole chracters on the screen talkin i hated that dialogue bad as well,,not enough good moves and no towns to go to...also i thought this game was decision based i didnt really see any of that in the game....but what i did like was the battles was long like a real war and i like how the specials was excuted with a cut scene and the amount of people you can recruit was good to occupy time and that was about it the game was ok i still like it but idea factory dosent make good games i played one of there games on the ps2 and it played just like this game with the dialogue and bad story..If this new game that is comin is better in story, battles, moves and have your chioce then i will defintely get it...if this game is a war game it should be more of a war game i hope becuase Spectral Force 2 your fightin for a nation but yet there not there to help you fend off like 30 people with only 6 members in your party....

Hey, K Ken... is the title just similar or is Agarest anywhere related to Lodoss War at all?  I LOVED Record of Lodoss War on the Dreamcast.  I defeated that game into the GROUND I played it so much, even the 2 extra dragons!  It was so similar to Diablo too.... but with Agarest being a strat RPG, I was just wondering if it was Lodoss related at all.  Too bad I live in the US...maybe it'll come out.  And too bad Vic Ireland's company nevr made it off the ground! UGH!  I SO miss the WDMB.  I was called Nifty there...no, maybe Twin Twist or Freeway, gee it's been so long I can't remember anymore!  My cousin was JediKnightG then later Bluestreak after the server crash and had to be built again...I miss those guys we all used to play PSO on the DC together on ... C8 or D10...so long ago...so many great memories.   -Sorry, it's late and I'm rambling...

at least I can barely read some Katakana thanks to the Saturn RPGs I imported... that IS the symbol for RoAW under your GT, I can make out Agalest!  Yay me! Wink [;)]

The game is similiar to SF3 (gridwise) & Disgaea (combowise). I also played RoLW on the DC, it was a great piece IMO. The game logo on my profile is indeed the game Record of Agarest: Rapier Lance (JPN version).

I know that the PS3 will get both Record of Agarest: Rapier Lance and it's prequel Record of Agarest: Zero. The Xbox360 will prolly get the NA/EU version of Record of Agarest: Rapier Lance some time later. I'ts prequel: Zero on the otherhand are still being speculated whenever it will get a Xbox360 release or not... We can only hope Sad [:(]

Record of Agarest: Rapier Lance, is a great game. There's just so many things you can do:
1: Level up your party, whilst following the story
2: Engage marriage to generation specific characters to get a powerfull offspring for the next generation
3: Capture monsters, to synthesize them into weapons/armours/items. Or breed specific monsters to create a powerfull one
4. Craft powerfull weapons
5. Combine and/or hunt "artes", (like materia's in FF7) and use it to unlock powerfull solo/ teammoves
6. Follow specific paths for different events
7. All the actions you take, specific story paths, will have consequences to either the story or your offspring

Here's a good video example of how the battle goes. I know this guy has overpowered characters, but just to show you guys how
artes and  team moves work. Also, if you have a YouTube account, be sure to subscribe to my YT channel, as I will be posting gameplay videos soon of this wonderfull game.

Let me know if you guys have more questions.
I'll try and answer them whenever I'm logged on the forums Wink [;)]

Oh, I can tell you right now the story is superb. It's a mix of Eternal Sonata, FF7 & Disgaea. It follows the story, but yet has random unexpected twists, often hilarious. That keeps you wondering how it will end.

Example in the 2nd generation there's this girl you'll encounter during  a random event. She is just standing still in front of a monster, whilst our heroes thinks of it as a fiend and the girl being in danger.

So this clip starts of with a Power Ranger Quote/Pokemon Team Rocket-like spoof. Both monster and the girl were like ".........". Simply hilarious Wink [;)]

About the Japanese games.

It's a shame that they do that, is it just pride or something? I mean, it can only hurt sales right? I never really cared about it, but this makes me sad, it looks like an awesome game.
Well, the idea is that they can make more money if they license their games to western publishers. The problem with that is that most Japanese games don't have a lot of appeal outside of Japan/would be difficult to market/won't sell much at full price, so western companies are afraid they wouldn't be able to turn a profit, so few get licensed. I'm pretty sure Japanese companies are fully aware of all of this though.

No worries. If you like the gameplay of Eternal Sonata, Final Fantasy & Disgaea. Then you should def. pick this one up once it's released in NA/EU, which will prolly be either end this year or somewhere in 2010. Put some speed into it Midas Interactive!

Death Smiles is a shump, just like Ikaruga & Raiden Aces. Only difference is, you can change your characters position to either left or right to gun down hordes of enemies.

Eternal Sonata, aka Trusty Bell over here, is also a great game. I completed the game on the PS3. Special Edition, if I may add. The story mainly focusses on Chopin, whose on the verge of dying due to some unknown disease.

However, If you guys are willing to import a JPN Xbox360. I suggest to take a look at the games Record of Agarest (JRPG), Idolmaster Live For You! (DDR- Taiko no Tatsujin-like), Death Smiles (shump) and/or Otomedius G (also a shump). These are IMO great JPN-games.
