Great Game; Bad Name

zaspacer 03-12-2008, 11:42 AM

DLed and tried the demo for "n+" at random.

Very minimalist, but slick presentation. (music, sound, meny layout,
menu navigation, etc.)
Fun game, reminds me of a multi-player game I played once back in the 80's.

Name is horrible though, and advertising banners just as bad. They both had me thinking this was some math puzzle game.
Name should be "Ninja School", "Ninja Impossible", or something like that.

In addition, the multi-player section menu is easy to navigate, but
suffers (like a lot of online games) from not providing a set-up that:
1) helps players find others to play
2) communicates to players a sense of whether anyone is even online to
play against

(Magic Online does a SUPERB job of handling this, Street Fighter II
Hyper Figther's "quarter match" system is very effective)

Ninja School? Ninja Impossible? Um...no offense but I don't think those names are probably your best examples of "better names".

Personally I think the name conveys what this game is about - the N.  Nothing more. Nothing less.

Clearly (in my opinion) the name isn't even that much of an issue with getting the word out about it because this game is very popular as is and many people seem to know about the game before even owning it.  If I had to complain about something, I would complain about how you set up an episode in a private match to play with friends and once it's done - POOF! Like the very ninja you play your entire room disappears in a puff of ninjastic smoke as you're dropped back at the main menu. If you want to play your friends you have to start a whole new room up all over again. Kinda lame in that sense.

N+ is not bad.  N is terrible tho.  You cant even find N to download without some help.  Try googling N lol.  Even N+ has mixed result with google, since theres some lame user group on opera web browser calling themselves N+.  N+ XBLA or xbox seems to do the trick tho.
I use a Hava Platinum HD for my videos
Windows Movie Maker for editing

Well we are just a few indie guys (and girl) making games (slick entertainment and metanet) so there isn't a massive PR machine behind this that could point out to us how we squeez out a few more users by changing certain banners or a name. :)

We do our best and 'N' has managed to have like a million downloads on the PC, so some how the word has gotten around that its a game worth trying.

Hopefully the same will happen with N+ (you guys can help spread the word! :P )

Thanks for the feedback though, always valuable.

The original is called N, not N ninja or N game.

Sorry of this is a major revival, but I just had to point it out.

And N+ is an awesome name, Ninja School would suck, sorry.

I'm playing N or N+ right now, don't bother me.

While were speaking of names, the sequel (if one comes out) should definitely be called Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

N2.

Edit: lol, ignore all the junk, name is at the end of the paragraph thing. Stick out tongue [:P]

Thanks for trying N+! We named some levels in the level packs Ninja School and Ninja Impossible in your honour. :)

Actually, when we at Metanet decided to call our flash game "N", and its console versions "N+", we knew what we were getting into -- we thought it was distinct and memorable. Difficult to search for, sure, but we knew people would find it anyway (downloads are over 2.5 million now). Marketing advice or no, seeing how it's all played out, we would make the same decision if we could do it again. :)

@iiM SO NINJA: I think it's funnier with all that junk in front of it! haha.

Metanet Software Inc.

Shouldn't you have a CUL "D" if you created N?  Just thinking out loud.  Well, not out loud, I'm typing my thoughts.  Wait, I do that anyway.  Dammit, what was my point?  Oh yeah.  Shouldn't you have a CUL "D" if you created N?

And now, for something completely different.

This is an awesome game, I used to play it when I was in college, I was a little upset having to pay for what I used to play for free but it's not that bad.

I have to say though guys -- I looked over this game 1 million times before I was actually bored enough to try it, because I thought it was some Brain game.  Granted the name is nice, but the banner is just silly!  Put the main ninja on there or something, you never know if it would've helped until you try it.

Just some advice.

P.S. This game is killer addictive.

If you say it, then it MUST be true. :-P

oh dude. N+ is worth paying for in my opinion. I was ecstatic to see an XBLA version of the game. I used to play the flash version years ago. Sure, "N" and "N+" is difficult to search for, but its not a bad name. a good name for the N+ could have been "N Gold". it would make sense.
