Who else can't wait for FUEL

SpectralMeat 05-27-2009, 7:52 PM
I know I can hardly wait for it. It seems that the release date is finally set and it is June 2nd for North America and June 5th for Europe.

Here are some gameplay movies I found online, check them out:

Video 2

I am really hoping this game will not disappoint. I am really looking forward to play it next week.

I'm hyped up for this one, I will actually buy it the first week it's out. I usually wait a few months for a price drop, but not this game.
drive fast + race faster

The way gas prices are rising with the heat, I wouldn't be surprised if this game was cheaper than actual fuel.

Hmmm.. there's got to be a way to make that statement as funny as it sounded in my head. Alas..

I want this game! Please have great physics! PLEASE!!

Less than a week to go! GIMME!

Yep the wait is almost over. Hopefully physics will be good. usually Codemasters make really good racing games, so I have high hopes that this one will be no exception.

Its the only game I have been looking forward to buying since I heard about it!!! I thought it was supposed to be released yesterday, but I suppose I can wait a few extra days... kind of sucks since I am making my biweekly trip into the city tomorrow and won't be able to pick it up :( maybe I will stop into a few places to see if they have it on the floor early.. doubtful but worth a shot

Unfortunately they had to push it back a week. It was supposed to be out this Tuesday, which means the game makes it's way into stores by Thursday usually, but they moved it back by a week. Probably working on a last minute patch for the game.

You never know though it doesn't hurt to check it in stores. Some might start selling it early. I bet the game is sitting in the back storage of the stores already but will not be on display until next week.

I have been watching this game since it was first shown...open world racing concepts have proven very successful this generation (Test Drive Unlimited and Burnout Paradise). It was only a matter of time before someone made something similar, except off-road.

All I need now is to see a few reviews before I make it a def day one purchase...only reason I wont jump on it right now, is because I just bought two games for my PS3 this week, and I have a pre-order on Red Faction next week (same day as FUEL). But the first sign of good reviews, then I will drive down to my EB and pre-order it.

I don't see how this is ripping off Motorstorm...the only thing they have in common is that there both off-road racing...which a lot of games are (Look at the ATV franchise or DiRT).

As for the Burnout comment, sounds more like a fanboy outburst...not saying its going to be better! I'm just saying that the game isn't out yet, so the fact that you already "know" that it isn't as good is...well...a fanboy outburst.

And for the last comment...that its just going to be another racer...what? What do you think they were trying to make? An Action Platformer? Racing games all generally look and feel the same...same with any other Genre...that's why its categorized in the first place, because their similar.

The game is being Produced by Codemasters...Asobo Studio is developing it. They are responsible for amazing titles such as,

PlayStation 2
Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
Sitting Ducks
Special Forces: Nemesis Strike
Super Farm
The Mummy: The Animated Series
WALL-E

Huh...well, maybe FUEL will be like a fresh start for them?

No it doesn't suck just require a little more skill to master it than Burnout Paradise.

I think there is something fishy going on in Europe lol. All these gameplay videos that are floating around on the net are either in Spanish, or in French, or in German. Maybe the game shipped early in Europe or something.

I had never even heard of this game before but after watching a few of the posted video's on this thread, it's looking quite promising and almost a definite buy for me now!

Oooh great, my car is only licensed until may 31st and I am not renewing cause the car probably wont last another month or 2 to make it worth renewing... there goes my possibility of making the trip into a city to buy the game... guess I will have to hit up futureshop online... perhaps I can order it today and grab far cry for $20 with it... seems like maybe I should, even though I don't want to spend any money

No! You NEED to spend money! That's the only way the economy will get any better!

I have been wanting this game since I first heard about it but that 11 minute video didn't give me a great impression, I do like more arcade style racing but the vehicles just seem to bounce off terrain and other vehicles. There seems to be highly improper contact physics going on. I may still buy it but I will probably wait until I hear what you guys say before I slap down the money

After much research, I have decided that I will wait on FUEL until there is either a playable demo, or your guys feedback...

I will stick with Red Faction Guerrilla next week. Reasoning? RFG is currently sitting at a 9.0/10 average on Gamestats while FUEL is sitting at a 6.1/10

I have realized that the three people to actually review FUEL arnt what you would call...trustworthy...but they all complain about the same things, and that alone has me worried. RFG has been consistently getting scores 9 and above from all reviewers and gamers.

Hopefully its all just bad reviewing, and FUEL ends up being the fun game I hoped it would be.

It's too bad that Fuel is getting mediocre reviews. The gameplay video looked pretty good. Also, I recently started playing Motorstorm and it rekindled my love for this particular type of offroad racing game (although I think Dirt is definitely better than Motorstorm. I've yet to try Motorstorm 2.)

I'm also surprised by the fact that Red Faction Guerilla is getting such great reviews. I played the single player demo and it didn't wow me by any means. It felt like just another third person sci-fi game, and didn't really feel like the Red Faction I used to love on the PS2. I was going to skip it unless it got amazing reviews. So, if it continues to get reviews like that, I guess I'll have to give it a rent.

Its funny how things always turn out the opposite of what we expected, huh?

Btw, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is amazing...it adds a lot more variety to the environments (they actually split them up into categories...Fire, Water, Earth and some fourth one I cant remember right now).

Red Faction: Guerrilla reminds me of the old ones perfectly...the only difference is that its in 3rd person. They explained in an interview the reasoning for changing the camera...and it was because of all the destruction. Apparently, it gets very disorienting blowing up buildings and not being able to see everything around your character...one they pulled the camera back a little, using items like the hammer was a lot easier. But Red Faction has always been about the destruction...and Guerrilla certainly delivers on that front.

Hopefully someone here still picks up FUEL and can give us their opinion on it.

I am picking it up for sure. I don't care about reviews all that much but just for the record Edge magazine gave this game an 8/10.

Whether you trust their review or not here are some other scores from them:

Ninja Blade 5/10
Bionic Commando 6/10
Assassin's Creed 7/10
Bioshock 8/10
Call of Duty: WaW 6/10
F.E.A.R. 2 8/10
Gears of War 8/10
Kameo 7/10
Motorstorm 8/10
Motorstorm: PR 7/10
Killzone 2 7/10
Resident Evil 5 7/10
Metal Gear Solid 4 8/10
