How do you kill a mini-battlelord?

I am at one of the first levels and my have my first encounter with a battlelord...the badass that has the turret gun and the grenade launchers.  Once he sees me, it's over..I don't have enough ammo to kill him.  Anyone with any tips/clues to defeat him?  I thought if I could keep him standing in the little canal of lava it would kill him but no luck...he kills me before that.  I seem to have hit him with about 20 to 25 rockets and he doesn't go down...HELP :)

First encounter? Should be the Boss level of LA Meltdown.The Abyss.

Dunno. *** keeps killin me as well. Not enough places to hide and fire from.

Use the shrinker. Make sure you have auto aim turned off and then aim at his feet. They go down with one shrink ray and then you just squish them. Also, if you're playing on damn im good, they won't respawn after being squished.
