trouble with xbox messanger/chatpad
Hello I recently today logged into play ffxi and while in game, I can not get the chatpad to type. When I log into playview online, it works fine for entering my password but as soon as I am in game, the keypad does not work. Help? Thanks. Note: That chatpad was working fine in game last night. I don't think it is broken. Just some reason it doesn't want to work while in game and I have no clue what to do. THis Sux! :(

Re: trouble with xbox messanger/chatpad
Im not positive but I remember reading something about the possibility the chat pad would never be supported by FFol. I dont play FFol so I really have no idea, anyone play that has no problems with the chatpad, or is it well known that it does not operate in game?

Methinks people first post and perhaps then later read on.

Its was supported. It worked fine last night. Maybe its all of a sudden not supported or I hit some button like an idiot and wrecked it. Crud.

Did you check the connection or test it on a second controller? As it plugs in the Mic port Ive seen multiple controllers with Mic ports fried out.

Re: trouble with xbox messanger/chatpad
I have been using the chat pad well playing Final Fantasy 11 for about the last year now. It works fine other then when your typing  letters stick sometimes, it will add in more spaces the you hit the space bar for, it will leave out letters that you typed. To use the second and third sets of letters on it you have to hit the orange circle or green square keys on the bottom left and right corners and hit the corasponding letter with that color when it lights up. To use the green set of keys you have to hit the square then the key you want then the square again and then the key you want again. The only thing you really have to watch out for is if your battery dies well your trying to type something. when you turn the controller back on the last letter you pressed may stick and you will have to restart you 360. Other then those few miner problems it cuts one to three hours off the battery life depending on how much your typing but it beats a normal keyboard unless you want something with the alt and ctrl keys then stay away from the chat pad because it doesnt have them.

In all honesty man ...throw that thing in the trash!

Pick up a USB keyboard for under $20 and you'll be happy you did.

Its great if your near your system, we use keyboards and chatpads, depending on which system were on and what game we plan to play.

USB extension cables work really really well if you are more than 6 feet away from your console.

I have a 25' usb extension cable that is run along with my surround sound speaker wires.  You don't even notice the cable how I have it all setup.

Re: trouble with xbox messanger/chatpad

ya, a USB extension cord could alleviate the whole distance issue, but....

then you are spending more money ona wired keyboard then the overly priced, $30 chatpad.

I know for a fact you can get a wired Keyboard for at least $20, though I am sure there are deals out there where you can get one in the $10-20 range. But on average, the cheapest you will find is $20.

An extension cable for USB could run ya $10-20 more, depending on length. 6-footer is probably around $10. Which is fine if you are only 12-feet (6 foot cable on KB + 6 foot extension) away from your TV. a lot of people, have humongous televisions, and 12-feet is still way too close. I have a 10-foot extension cable I got a long time ago, and it cost me something around $15-20. But this was before FFXI, I bought it for something else. So it was just a spare extension I happened to have laying around.

Anyway, most probably not want to get a 10+ foot cable since the total price would cost more than the chatpad. The point here is to save money, not waste it.

Now, the other solution is that there are $20-30 wireless keyboards out there, which should work with the 360. A majority of them come with a mouse, but you can just toss that aside, obviously. As long as the wireless reciever has USB connectors on it, it should work on the 360. I personally don’t know, but have been told that it does infact work.

Basically, you can either get a $10 USB extension cable + a $20 USB Keyboard or find a $20-30 wireless keyboard. Then you would have something 100x better than a chatpad.

Alrighty then! God Bless.
