I understand the humour in Overlord, and realise that "animal cruelty" existed in the first game. Please do not get me wrong, I am not a tree loving elf as depicted in the game. However I do have to wonder at Codies logic at allowing the slaughter of seal pup's in this game, maybe they did it to get some press? To cause a ripple of controversy among the gaming and media consortium?

 

 

I personally think it is a bad move, I think Codies dropped the ball here, depiction of a protective species in a video game is not going to get them brownie points any time soon, and please do not think this is a hate post against the game, I love Evil pikmin any day of the week, I just feel that maybe they pushed the boundaries of taste to far here. Killing yetis is fine, s they are a "mythical" creature, but bay Seals , and Walrus (coo ka choo) if your playing along at home, i wrestling with the WWF too much In my opinion.

 

 

However I must point out that I am not a nature loving person, or a tree hugging hippy (respect to Cartman) I can not pass a field without licking a cow because of my hunger for steak..yum.

 

I just feel that one of England's most Legendary game coders, may have stepped too far with this.

Yeah, It would have ben better if they keep to the sheep, but I have to say, the place is set in an ice environment ... Do you know any other creature that could be there? (I suppose they could have made a new cute creature that isn't actually real, but still) But yeah, you have a point there.

If the PETA forum is not blowing up over this it must be only because they dont know yet....I would even make a wild guess here that after this game releases PETA is going to raise so much he11 that I will be hearing that on the morning news shows one day.....from my own perspective I do love animals, and I realize it's a video game....with that said....man it was just straight up "bad taste" on dev's part, but thats just imo.

Thinking about it, they could have gone for mountain goats, or mountain sheep, still animal cruelty, but some how I think they did it to get the attention , after all the elf's come to protect them. Codies know they are going to get some flack for it, so it was brave putting it in, but sadly as brave as it is, I do not think it was "smart".

Can anyone help with the last part in the demo? The Ogre is on the ship throwing barrels and I cant do anything to hurt him ,the 2 *** pirate guys are sitting on the corner perch's and I cant hurt them also? How do you beat him?

Damage the yeti until he jumps on the boats. The elves will then jump off the corners. Kill them, and have your minions destroy the two corner posts and the yeti will jump back for you to fight. Repeat for the other side, then just overwhelm it with your minions. There you go.

Actually its been PETA approved. PETA doesnt mind it becuse you are an "Evil" character that does bad things...thus saying clubbing seals is evil. Its a game...I AM a nature lover and animal lover and I was cracking up over the seal clubbing.

Does it disturb me that we're clubbing seals in a game? Not really, I rather doubt I'll take a trip up to Greenland, I suppose I'd have to find some minions along the way, and club seals because of it. And why does making it endangered make a difference? You're killing an innocent creatures. If you weren't...well what kind of evil overlord would you be? It's a game, so endangered doesn't really come into account as they seem rather plentiful in that world.

And honestly, I put cruelty towards humans (innocent ones mind you) alot higher then animals. If they put children in the game or, god forbid, kittens I'll join in the outrage. Otherwise I'm perfectly capable of understanding the difference between a video game and real life. I'm glad PETA cleared this, shows that they also have some (un)common sense.

PS: doesn't clubbing still happen from time to time in north america?

Because killing seals is so much worse than killing sheep?

I fail to follow the logic that killing an endangered species in game is far worse than killing a non-endangered one. It's animal cruelty either way. It's not something that should be encouraged. But I'd hardly count the game as doing so, you're an evil overlord, yes you murder innocents, but it's never really passed off as "you should go out and do this now kiddies", or at least it wasn't in the first, and I doubt it will be now.

You know I really don't understand the level of stupidity people have to have to get worked up over cartoonish seal clubbing. This is a game about being EVIL. They are in no way selling off seal clubbing as a noble or... not-evil? act. Really. This game is about being EVIL. I understand the argument behind first-person-shooters (Though I disagree) and drunk driving in video games (Though I disagree) but something like seal clubbing? How many people are going to be influenced by this game and go into that line of work. How many people? ...and like someone said... Go cry on the PETA forums or better yet you can go up to the Artics and prevent all this *** instead of ranting on Xbox.com.

DISCLAIMER: Because I am too lazy to read through all of the posts complaining about CM's choice to depict the clubbing of seal pups, I apologize if this has already been said.

In my humble opinion, I believe this to be a spoof of the ever-so-popular "club a seal" internet games that were going around years ago on sites such as "Newgrounds," etc.  Before everyone throws a fit over the seal clubbing bit, realize it is just a game, and is probably a spoof on some other pop icon so to speak.  CM's put a lot of spoofs into their games and media.  Consider that before rallying against their "bad decision."
