Chet Miller (USA) was my favourite. Cheap in both sign on and winnings %. Drives GT1 class, and is freaking awesome at it. Fairly decent elsewhere too.

David Cooper (SCO) is pretty much the best Touring Car driver in the game that u can hire. I have him atm. Great at other disciplines as well, but costs something like 5 mil.

Also, use the driver rankings to hire people. You get a great range of drivers. The normal search is so tedious!

Probably.  never used him, but by the sounds of it i should have lol

Your teamate will do fine in any championship of their speciality regardless of rank. At Global, u have 6 championships, so hire 6 different teamates for each championship. Hire a pro tuned expert for the pro tuned championship. Hire an Open wheel expert for the Formula 3 championship and so on. Rank itself is not that important; I cleared half of global with hiring rookie drivers whom were experts at one category

I've only had 3 other drivers on my team so far... the first two sucked.  I can't remember the Italian guys name, but he was horrible.  Next I had Graham something... and he sucked too.  Then I found Yori Kanada and he's consistently in the Top 5... so he's my favorite so far.  I can't remember how much you pay him as a signing bonus, but I think his pay is 45% or 50%.
