Believe it or not, it has been just over two years since the last Xbox 360 release of a new Tony Hawk title. Shockingly, Activision decided the series needed a break ... to search for innovation, presumably. Since the first Pro Skater title in 1999, Neversoft has been at the helm of the extreme sports series but according to a high-level executive, Neversoft has seen the last of Tony Hawk.

Speaking with his hometown newspaper the Great Falls Tribune, Neversoft Entertainment co-founder and president Joel Jewett confirmed his studio is no longer working on the Tony Hawk series. "It's time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it," Jewett told the Tribune. Neversoft is currently the development team behind Activision's popular Guitar Hero franchise.

While Activision has not confirmed a Neversoft / Tony Hawk split, rumors are already pointing to newly formed studio Robomodo, which includes refugees from the unfortunate EA Chicago and Studio Gigante closures, as the new home for the skateboarding series. At this point, the series would benefit from a fresh set of eyes.

From what I read it was saying Neversoft is done with Tony Hawk, not Tony Hawk is done. They were talking about another iteration with a new type of controller a-la Wii balance board. So I wouldn't take it as we won't see another Tony Hawk, but the next Tony Hawk we'll see is going to be completely innovative and new. In my opinion it is not a bad thing. The Tony Hawk series to me got stale after 3...

I don't know why people say they got stale, I don't seem to get bored of any even if I go back to some of the PS series. That game itself is awesome. Everything about it. The way this new one sounds, I won't be getting it. If I wanna skateboard i'll go to the skate park near my house...

This isnt too disappointing even though I am a big fan of the Tony Hawk games. Though I borrowed Proving Grounds from a friend today and I am saddened by how crappy it its. They ruined the series so discontinuing it doesnt sadden me at all.

Tony Hawks games were good, but got lame, IMO Skate owns the Tony Hawks series.

It's not necessarly a bad thing for neversoft to stop making it i think they should hand it to someone else. Proving ground and american wasteland were horrible. I think they should hand it to z axis or shaba games z axis made the dave mirra series and that amazing aggresive inline game. And Shaba made THPS 3 psx and Grind session which were both great games as well.


I dont like the innovative board concept lets hope theres a controller way as well

Really? I thought project 8 was crap. Proving ground seemed more like the old tony hawks. But the story mode is crap for anything past 3. I just like skating around.

I don't think it's a bad thing, to be honest with you.  I've been playing the Tony Hawk games since the first one (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater...which I still own), and I'll tell you, to me, it seems like they are all starting to run together.  If you played on, you pretty much played them all, and at some point, the whole series was going to get stale.  Personally, I think they sould have hung it up after Project 8, which wasn't a bad game, but it was way too much of the same stuff.  And right now, I don't think the TH series can hang with Skate...not by a longshot.

The n00b Cannon Theory and You.

Tony Hawks to me as just been extensions of an amazing THPS1. It's like buying DLC. You get new additions and new goals. It's the only game that I ever played for the first time and was amazed. I don't know why but it's everything in a game that I could ask for.

Your right though. Skate will outpush hawks. Hawks as already had its run and as much as I would love for more hawks to be released I don't think that's going to happen. I did think Project 8 was one of the most amazing games ever though. Alongside PS2 / 4 :)

PS. Does anyone know what that game is when you go on your xbox profile. It's called stoked. Mmmm boarding games RULE!!
