Abathur wrote:The combat makes silent hill tho. Without the combat where is the survival fear? Where is the "OH SH..." as you realize you just wasted ammo on a shadow or harmless figure?
Christofrenik wrote:I agree with Abathur, I can't see a SH game without combat. Without it, it's just.... well, not SH. What's great about this game is that incorporates all of these elements; horror, action, fighting, shooting, and does it quite well. I think they should have done with this game what they did with the House of the Dead, and make it linear but have it be arcade-style and you can go around familiar places and kill all the monsters from all of the SH games. I think that would have been a lot more fun and a lot more appealing.
Abathur wrote:the combat is not that bad. Yes it's clunky, yes it's ackward, yes sometimes you just want to throw the controller out the window. But the way i see it, is with the exception of SH5, NONE of the main characters had ANY combat training. If you were shoved into silent hill and have never had to literally fight for your life, you'd be clunky too.
Metallicion wrote:I just can't wrap the concept around my mind though. Lets say a schism comes after you... what are you suppose to do? Just stand there and feel creeped out? Whats the point of putting creatures in the game if you aren't going to kill them.... will there even be any monsters? How so will this game be fun to play? There will be no reason for blood to be all around the areas, there will be no reason for dead bodies to be lying around and most importantly there will be no reason to feel scared. Im currently in the Hell version of Alex's house in Silent Hill Homecoming and without the 'clings' that the monsters make or the random splitters (or schisms, I forget what they're called) hiding in the attic to attack you its pointless to be creeped out. This new game is obviously going to fail.
Abathur wrote:i'm sorry... but without creatures trying to kill you and you trying to kill them first, it just doesn't seem like a survival. Running away and crashing through windows and trying to find the best path through? That sounds like "Mirror's Edge". And even THAT had some form of combat.

It baffles me soI will play the game no matter what, but welcome to the internet! People will complain about everything. How many times did RE4/5 get ripped on for having too much combat and losing the puzzles? A lot.And after playing SH:H, i'm no longer too fond of the Combat in SH, lmao. Not that it was bad, but it got on my nerves. Especially with no inverted Y axis for viewing.
Abathur wrote:I agree about RE losing it's roots, but back on topic...I say that taking away combat completely sucks, my opinion. The fact it's a "re-imagining" of the first game, i feel like i've already "found" Harry's daughter and therefore don't need another "version" of it. I have a problem with all doors being unlocked and everything because i have a literal crap sense of direction and if i'm running for my life i'm gonna lose my sense of direction almost immediately. All this being said, the game hasn't been released yet and i'll probably try it out. I'm not the kind of person to say bad things about a game and NOT play it to give it a chance.
Abathur wrote:finally saw some screen shots of this game and heard a couple interviews thanks to the power of YouTube. As for just pure looks, not bad, very shiny. I can tell that this is definitely NOT going to do well on non-wii systems, because you look around with the wii-mote mostly. Because of this i'm not sure the game is going to do well on other systems, since this is a way of immersing yourself into the action and having to literally look for ways out. In other words if you jump, chances are the screen will too since the wii-mote would jump. Kind of an interesting idea.My ONLY other complaint i have so far, and i truly hope others agree with me here, is that the "otherworld" will not be bloody and industrial looking like the previous games. Instead it's going to be icy. It probably has to do with some mountain resort feeling isolated, but personally i have a fear of industrial areas and ALOT less of snow. I've grown up in Upstate New York, USA. Snow happens... metal starting to bleed and rust and the walls and ground peeling away, does not.

Ruthless Tenjin wrote: Pyramid Head15 wrote: And why does it sound stupid?I think they're wanting the gory aspect of Silent Hill rather than the psychological horror it's known for. Honestly, if you want gore, play any M rated game really. Silent Hill is known not for its combat and not for being utterly gory, but for the fear it invokes in the player's minds. Instead of jump tactics and boo factors, they put you in a sense of isolation and hopelessness with very little to get by on. The way the reimage is sounding and looking seems to me it might just be the very best Silent Hill to date where the focus is on exactly what makes Silent Hill different from other survival horror games. Honestly, if you have a gun or a pipe or whatever, there's not much challenge when you can take down any enemy and feel safer with a weapon. It's going to add to the suspense and horror when you can't fight the monsters and have to find a way to avoid them, go around them, or even go through them in a mass. I just don't see how it can be called 'stupid' when you haven't even played it, nor is it even finished.
