Tips & Tricks for the weaponless run
Ok, here are my tips & tricks to get through (almost) the whole game without using your weapon (only ninpo and projectiles).
First I did a normal game (on Acolyte) with the DS and just gathered everything but used nothing! Keep all the LotG and 1000Gods and all the Jewels (exept the Demon seal) in your inventory.

So I started the run with about 220.000 essence all weapons maxed out, 7 (or 8) Lives of a 1000 Gods, 18 Life of the Gods and 2 Spirit of the devils (and you can buy 2 more in this run) and all health items at max.
First and best tip; don't fight if you don't have to!! This is not a Karma-run (this is the chicken-run) and you don't need any items anymore, so run passed all fights, boxes, savepoints and shops if you can. It's amazing how much you can actually skip. When you do have to fight the IS are your best friends so don't be stingy with them and always max them out when you're at a shop. If you run out of IS, use the Wind-shuriken; a fully charged one can kill ninja's with 1 hit.
Getting through the Chapters isn't all that hard but the Bosses can be. The hardest are Alexei, Genshin and Zedonius (ok and Elizebet). Genshin can only be killed with IS and they have to be timed right as well! They only hit when he is attacking!
Alexei cost me a Spirit of the Devils (every time) and a Talisman and 3 mushrooms; you need the Void-ninpo for him (projectiles don't work on him) but he has this spinning electric move he does when you use ninpo making him invulnerable for ninpo so you need some luck. (oh and when you fight him in Ch.13 be carefull; if you, by accident, hit the caged chick with your ninpo instead of Alexei your game is over!). For the last part of his healthbar (in Ch.13) you need to switch to your Flame Phoenix ninpo cuz he the void-ninpo won't hit him anymore.
Save your Spirit of the Devils and Talisman for those Boss-fights!
Don't forget that when you are at a shop you have to buy all the items you missed in order to get the other 2 Spirit of the Devils (If Muramasu does not have a place available in his shop you won't get them). Don't worry you'll gather enough essence with the kills you make to be able to buy everything (I ended up with 120.000 to spare at the last savepoint)
Another good tip is; know where the red-essence boxes are and use them to your advantage; it makes your life a lot easier when you can ninpo-spam your way past certain tough points knowing you can refill your ninpo. You can use this guide if you have to:
http://www.wikicheats.com/index.php/Ninja_Gaiden_2_-_XB360/Walkthrough
(don't forget the arrow targets in Ch.11 (the big fight!) give red/blue and yellow essence when you shoot them).

I made it all the way to Ch.14 to the save-point just before the bloodpool with the eels prior to fighting Genshin (for the last time) and Elizebet. It is probably possible to get through this fight without using weapons but it wasn't worth the hassle for me. Genshin is almost impossible to hit with IS this time and then you get Elizebet right after, so my weaponless run ended here. Left me with just 1 chapter to walk through with all the different weapons to finally get 1000 points.

Have fun!

Sounds like you've had a hard time man, fighting all the bosses without weapons is to hard for me. I did the old way and cleared the game with each weapon from the beginning (because i didn't know about the trick).
Top 4 worst MP games IMO:
#1 - NBA StreetHomecourt
#2 - Army of Two
#3 - The Darkness
#4 - Gears of War 2

Yeah, well it's only a couple of Bosses that are hard. Volf and Rasetsu you can just ninpo-blast to oblivion (inferno). The waterdragon, armadillo's, gigadeath and flying dragons are projectile-kills in a regular game anyway. So overall it's still a helluva lot easier than Mentor.

But Kudos for gutting it out the old fashion way!

Lol, no I didn't farm. I did a regular run on Acolyte first (made it my DS-run). You have to do a regular run first cuz otherwise you can't do the weaponless run; you need the IS, the Wind-shuriken, and all the jewels and stuff to pull it of (so do not use any items beside the deamon seals on your first run!). At the end of that run I had about 220.000 left (after upgrading all weapons) and that's when I did the weaponless run.

Twice still beats 8 times Smile [:)]

Addition: Tips & Tricks for the weaponless run

I tried this a while back and sadly I must have hit someone somewhere and didnt get the achievements, but did get the sword master since it was the only one equipped the entire time. I will redo this again since I have gathered enough strength from the frustration of Mentor.

Just a few additions:

1) Alexie can be hit with an IS while he is spinning, just make sure to get out of the way quick.

2) Equip only one weapon through the game, just in case you hit someone while casting ninpo (Most probably my case).

3) Cast a ninpo only when you are some distance from the enemy, else Ryu slashes away if you miss that B.

4) Make separate save for each chapter after Ch 8, just in case you miss the achievemnt and want to start those last few tricky ones.... better than starting the whole thing again.

Just my thoughts, I will start on this soon (again!!) and give more tips. I also could just go ahaead and use each weapon thru the game 7 more times, but this is more challenging and hence more fun.

Cheers.

Good additions Kaizer! Specially number 1, if that is true! I could've used that! Alexei cost me a lot of ninpo, Spirit Devils and talismans because of that spin.

No you don't. This is the trick to get all your weapon achievements in one run! After you saved your game for the last time (check my 1st post to see where I did that) you pick a weapon and finish the only last chapter of the game. That will give you the achievement for that weapon.
Then you load that save again and pick another weapon. So you only have to use each weapon for only a part of the final chapter instead of going through the entire game 8 times.

Hey Jah, so I'm at Chpt 7 and have to destroy the control panels to bring down the plane. if i destroy those with my melee weapon will it mess up the run? i read somewhere on here that it doesnt matter if you hit environment objects, (pots, tress, stone slabs in Chpt 10) just as long as you dont hit an enemy. Is this true? i just want to make sure so I dont go thru the whole game and dont get the achievements.

You can hit 'Objects' since they dont count towards 'Hits'. The Karma record system only counts those, so you should be fine if you destroy the panels with melee weapons.

Yeah, you can hit objects, you can even hit the meatsacks in the tunnels (I think Ch.13) where the ninja's drop out of. As long as you don't hit the ninja's. (3 hits with X with the DS for the ninja's and 5 or 6 for the spider meatsack).

Well, you don't need 220.000 since I had 120.000 to spare at the end. Was your playthrough on Acolyte or Warrior? Cuz doing a weaponless run on Warrior is not recommendable. Bosses are harder to kill so you might not have enough ninpo to kill em.

So you should do an Acolyte run first and save every item you find (except Deamon seal) specially the Devil spirits!! You can save money in this run by not upgrading weapons you don't use. Also on Acolyte everything is much cheaper and you will use a lot of talismans on your weaponless run (to refill your ninpo).

Remember to supress your instinct to wanna fight when you see enemies! Skip, run, flee, despawn, hide, bribe, I don't care, just don't fight if you don't have to! (except for the stairs in Ch.10 you don't wanna miss that fight... well, wind-ninpo spam-fest  actually).

Good luck

So im best doing another acolyte run your saying save all i can do most TOVs and then try my weaponless run after that. Yeh but all my weapons are upgraded mate already does that matter if i start a game like this or do i need to start a game with all my weapons at lvl 1 ?

You can do the weaponless run with all upgraded weapons. How much money do you have after your run? Cuz if it's around 100.000 I think you're good to go.

I did say run past all chests and stuff but you might wanna make an exception for chests with a talisman cuz they are worth 20.000 in essence (and there are at least 7 of them throughout the game).

And, yeah on my first Acolyte run I did all the ToV's and saved everything I found except the Deamon seals. I did upgrade all my weapons at the end of my first run but you don't have to. You can save that money if you think you need it cuz you're not gonna use a weapon in your weaponless run anyway. Just remember to upgrade the weapon of choice at the last Muramasu.

Well with that kind of money you can run past the talisman-chests aswell.
Should you still want them; the link to the guide in my 1st post has most locations.
Good that you saved the sprit of the Devils. If I'm correct you should have ninpo 5 slots allready and 2 extra in your inventory AND when you make your weaponless run can buy 2 more.
Mate, you got nothing to worry about!

You can block all you want just make sure you don't couterattack.
I really had to force myself to run away (specially if one of those runts hit me!). Also somehow I felt the urge to save at every save point and to visit a shop when I saw one; DON'T! I only saved at point where you either had to fight or it was safe. Same story with the shops; when you don't need anything (IS or ninpo) just run by.
