Silent Hall, Survive for 45 Mins

Mr Flump 91 02-18-2008, 6:25 PM
Me and a friend have found a spot where enemies just ignore you on the Silent Hall map, we do not have the achievement yet, as one of us lagged out earlier.

The guide:

First, get yourself a partner willing to get the achievement.

Start up the game and head directly to the blue and green spawn pits, 1 person take 20 blues the other 20 greens. Run towards the corner shown in the picture.
Picture of Corner

Once you make to the corner jam yourself into the fallen support beam closest to the corner and stay there! Put your minions right in the corner and set up a guard marker. Both players need to do this. Do not move at all and do not move your minions either. You can see the enemies in the fog of war running around a support beam. Sometimes rats will attack, this is where the greens come into play and take them out.

Later Rock Golems and those rolling things will appear... not to worry stay and the corner and you should be fine do not do anything stupid. They should leave you alone.

Keep this up till 45 minutes then run out and die :D

Both times I have redone it, my partner lags out because of the ammount of creatures walking about. So Ill need to find a better more lag-free way myself.

I completed it after numerous attempts.
Here are some things i noticed/did. Having one group of blues and one group of greens is a bad idea, apparently the other teammates blues will be unable to heal the other teammates greens.

Instead i chose a different method. The first person grabs twenty greens then hides in the apprpopriate corner, the other teammate bashes some green bugs with browns (five green orbs per bug), restocks on health, grabs the greens then goes in the corner as well. Now you have fourty greens.

Positioning the greens is important. When jumping they might get over excited and start breaking barrels. That is the last thing you would want as it draws the attention of the dwarves. This might be bearable at first but later on you wont be able to cope with the staggering amount of dwarves that gather.

The rats come in waves every five minutes on the dot, fourty five minutes equates to nine waves.

After roughly five attempts i gave up on that corner, the dwarves would always find us when the rats came. Combinations of ten blue and ten green did nothing to improve the situation.  My buddy and I instead hid in the corner closest to the green and blue spawn pit, broke all the barrels and hid behind the pillar with our  fourty green minions.

The enemies in this area are alot slower and seemingly will not be able to reach you before all the rats have been dealt with, so they will wander off.

Excellent. Good find!

I may need help with someone to test this on. I have not had a chance to play much of Overlord yet, but this doesn't seem to hard. I understand the method, but I would rather have someone help and explain the method.

Thanks so much Damolition for that!

I know its a lot to ask but would you be willing to show us where exactly you wound up hiding and where you placed the greens?

Thanks again.

Sorry, dont have a digital camera.

I can give you three landmarks though!
Lets say that the direction you face when you spawn is north, the location of the spot is South-west

At the spot to your right should be the health temple

Its in the same quadrant as the green and blue spawn.

Thanks again!

Where did you place the greens? And if I can ask, how did you deal with the fact that the barrels keep respawning, or was that not a big deal?

Right in the back corner we grouped them, They would constantly break one barrel as it reappered but that was it. Not much we could do about that.

[EDIT]
That barrel was not important though. The important barrels are the ones in the front row that act as a buffer.

so yea... this didnt work for me.  i got to about 10 minutes and between trying to find the corner and setting it up i lost 5 greens and 5 blues and 1 of the overlords was about to die. i kept having to kill a dwarf every 15-30 seconds until about 15 minutes then the first pack of rats came and after that the dwarves stopped until the next pack of rats came at about 20 minutes. then at about 22 minutes the big guys started coming out and one of the huge rock things (cant remember what they are called) came out and pretty much came straight to me and killed me. how do i get him to not do that? lol

it dosen't work.

i get in the corner and put the minions where you said. now this works for 20 minutes then when your minions attack the rats this attracts other creatures e.g rock troll this comes over and smashes all the crates and 24 minutes of creature all run in. i have tryed this several times and this dosen't work. F%!^$&

I have to agree. The closest a friend and I got was around 36 minutes, but the rock troll notices us every time.

Can someone tell me if this also works in co-op with two controllers on one xbox? Or does it has to be online?

Juunanagou 02-24-2008, 1:40 PM

Cause I cant edit anymore sorry for the double post.

But sort of confirmed you can get the survival achievements with co op on just one xbox. Just got the 15minute survivor achievement on this map. =)

Re: Silent Hall, Survive for 45 Mins

HaloHunter072 02-25-2008, 12:28 AM

Received the achievement earlier today. I found this to be the best tactic.

Have your friend or yourself grab 20 greens, while you or your friend spawn 20 browns. Head to the spot as directed, and take around 5-10 minutes powering up your minions by breaking the barrels (the greens first) at the green spawn, but keep your minions and overlords as close to the corner as possible. Then, position minion markers in the corner (as far as possible) and wait with both you and your friend's minions). Never make an attempt to grab more minions even if yours die out, unless you really need to.

During the wait, we unintentionally attracted rock trolls and normal trolls along the way, though they were not too tough as long as you spare your Berserk spell long enough to use it multiple times. Occasionally, the greens would jump out to kill the rats. Eventually they would also attract a rock troll, which is where the browns come in. Retract the greens, and send the browns in. Have the browns (or both brown and greens, but browns only works much better). Kill the troll, then call them back in. If done right, you should have not lost any greens or less then 3. Repeat as needed.

Eventually, as you progress with more time, the rock trolls health doubles, and if you notice health decreasing very slowly when you encounter one, have your friend use his minions against the giant as well. That is the best advice I can give. Wink [;)]

finally got it today along with the 30 mins survivor achievement and let me tell you how it worked for me. im wondering if greens are actually the best choice because they attraceted some unwanted attention but it still worked for me. i was playing split screen and manning both controllers. i put both overlords in the corner as close as possible. i got 20 greens for one and 20 browns for the other. i put markers as far into the corners as well. at every 5 minute mark, 10:00, 15:00, ect. the greens would jump over the wall to kill the rats. and always right after this happened a dwarf would take notice and come at me but the minions killed it. this was all good until around the 30 mins mark when my greens decided to jump unusually far at a rock troll. i got really lucky in that he killed a quarter of them and the rest ran back and nothing followed them. then out of nowhere a little while after that one of those rolly thing srolled out of the darkness and right into my corner killing several browns and greens leaving me with 8 greens and 16 browns. we killed it while it was on its back and from then on out it was just rats every 5 mins minus the dwarf this time until the 45 mins was reached. so basically once i went in the corner i didnt have to press a single button aside from helping kill the rolly thing. i think it might go a little smoother with blues instead of greens or maybe even nothing else just because it seems like the greens get antsy and just jump at things randomly sometimes. also i noticed when i ran out after 45 mins that all the big stuff was jumbled up in the opposite corner as this one which i think is why this strategy works.

Excellent work! I would say this tactic worked for me as well (read above post), with the exception of a rolling creature crashing into the corner of my minions.

I have tried this method at least 12 times now and it simply does not work for me. A rock troll spots me at around 38 mins every single time without fail. All 12 times he comes by at almost exactly the same time and proceeds to destroy everything.

How in the world did everyone else avoid him? If someone would be kind enough to jump on and help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Disagree with you, the more green the better. You see greens jump OVER the barrels, browns smash them on their way through. And although its true that when the greens get attention when they are jumping as soon as they return to the corner enemies lose intrest. When the browns have smahed the barrels the enemies will keep coming till the barrels respawn, and all the commotion will probably break the next set of barrels anyway.\

The barrels are key, they are what makes you undetectable to all but the rats. With the barrels broken the enemy has line of sight to your position.

Thats why i used the 40 green method in the blue and green spawn corner. There is very few standard dwarves in this area, mainly slower units such as large trolls and large dwarves. Sounds bad but it is an advantage: They are slow. Unless they are at the very corner of their walk route they will be unable to reach you before the greens finish their job on the rats and are back safetly behind the barrels.

I should of stated in my method up the page, aside from the rats i had NO confrontations with the enemy.

There's even an easier way to get the 45 min survivor achievement:

http://www.achieve360points.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72622

I used only 6 green minions to block the rock giant and got all the survivor achievements on my first try.
