Lost Odyssey: Must buy?
What is your overall rating for this game, and would you prefer it?

I'm debating on either getting Lost Odyssey or re-buying The Last Remnant, (Dog got a hold of it somehow. x_x; ), and I would love the opinion of all the users on which one to do. I do not have enough money to buy both of them yet. <3

Thanks~

Edit: I watched my friend play it on my Xbox, it seemed really cool for the little bit I saw.

Re: Lost Odyssey: Must buy?
Lost Odyssey is a turn based rpg. Magic and Skills usually end up being cast at the end of everyones turn (including enemies), Normal Attacks are mixed in with enemies its determined by how fast each char. is vs the enemy. Items are always used before the Enemies get a chance to respond.

Each Boss, and Area in the game has status effects that can harm your character so you have to prepare for the situations, which I found to be nice I like having to think up a stragey rather than just whacking enemies with swords.

The Last Remnant I think kinda plays like a really agressive FFT, I could only get as far as BlackDale because I dont have an HDTV and can not make out what any of the commands say, so I put it off until I get an HDTV. I'd also suggest Infinite Undiscovery.

If I had to compare gameplay of LO I'm say its like Final Fantasy, its got that feel of the turn based system, the skills you learn from Accessories (similar to learning skills in FF9), at the same time the game reminds me of a novel, not just the details on the miniscule items but also the storytelling in the Dreams.

If you're still unsure watch some gamplay clips on youtube, or go rent the game to see if you'd like it.

[Edit]Looks like you've played a bit already, what did you think?

I was able to get Lost Odyssey for 7.99 + shipping of 3.99 on Amazon used. And I'm loving it, sure its a weird combat system (jrpg), but I'm starting to like it, feels kinda like chess. If you can get it for less than 20$ i would say absolutely get it.

I payed 30 bucks. I would easily pay 60 for it. Best game I've played on the xbox 360. Well worth the money. Story is fantastic, CGI cut scenes are great, characters are great, combat is alright (turned based). Anyways I'd give it 10/10 easily. No game even comes close. Well I guess CoD4 because the mutliplayed is just amazing.

Is it worth it...that depends on you?

I haven't played a JRPG in well over 7 years, I hate JRPGs.  BUT I like LO.  It has its ups and downs.  I love the characters, story, world and it's way of sucking you in.  I hate the battle system, the loading and the inability to save anywhere and anytime.

Overall though LO has reintroduced me to JRPGs and I am now looking at Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonatata for a future purchase.  I'd highly recommend the game if you have the time to play it and you aren't a person who needs to save often.  The game saves sometimes can take 30 - 60 minutes at certain points so if you have a baby or some other reason to stop playing this game can be fustrating.

I say get it...

Someones Community Level Dropped from 4 to 3. Uh oh.

Re: Lost Odyssey: Must buy?
I have the last remnant and I could never really get into it. Getting into combat is stupid you have to run up and try and lock the enemies into battle, lame. Besides that the other aspects of the game are more convoluted and harder to get used to. I just borrowed LO from a buddy last night and I already like it 10x better than TLR. It's a lot easier to get into and there's not a whole lot of customizing. It just seems a bit more straight forward. Like you really just have to worry about what rings you are wearing in relation to the enemies element. The rest of the time you can spend linking skills and collecting items. However I don't really care for the little action things in combat in both games. Like getting the ring to perfect(lo) and pressing a button at the right time(tlr). Both of those things are completely lame to me and I'd rather worry about strategy and have criticals be a random occurence rather than some crappy prompt. But whatever I'll get used to it. SO my vote is for LO.

Took me a long time to get into it hence the great big gap between me getting the game and actually finishing it. The story doesn't get going for quite a while. The combat is good although some of the later dungeons are confusing+. On the whole its a great game; wouldn't say it was a "must buy" but 8/10 from me.

Re: Lost Odyssey: Must buy?

LO reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy 7 in terms of atmosphere, and Final Fantasy 9 in terms of gameplay. The only thing that I could think that MIGHT turn people away from this game is the excessive storytelling. The "excessive" point can be different depending on your tolerance to storytelling, as most of your first 5 hours in the game will be spent watching the story unfold as opposed to dipping in to the combat. If you like story driven RPGs (and LO has a pretty fantastic storyline from what I've played so far) with a classic turn-based combat system, it should be right up your alley.

Looking forward to - COD:MW2, Left 4 Dead 2, BioShock 2, FF13, Mass Effect 2
