Re: 200/200
The game actually repeats questions that often?

This game is a definitely pass in that case...

God, why are developers of trivia games SO lazy and stupid to realize you need the save file to keep track of what questions have already been asked?   It's simple... and something testers/designers should have been able to think of after playing the game long enough to get a couple repeats in every other game.  I mean I did... back when I was 16 and Trivial Pursuit for PS2/Xbox came out.

I think the BUZZ! series on PS2 actually keeps track to minimalize question repeats... but that's pretty much the only one I know that does that.

... bytheway... not trying to be a downer.  It's just Trivia games lose all appeal once questions start repeating too much.  Plus, it makes it completely unfair when you're playing with people who are completely new to the game.  I mean, it's going to be awful when you're trying to get that last couple of questions to get the achievment... but you have to play multiple games filled with questions you've already had until they finally select the question.

Scene It saves progress too actually, so that the game would have minimal repeats. I would not expect the repeats in this game to be too bad.

Actually, accoring to an interview with someone from Hidden Path, the game is actually somewhat intelligent in how it chooses questions.  From the interview it sounds like Wits keeps track of which questions you've seen and choose from the among the questions that you haven't seen it the longest amount of time.

Heh.  They were lying through their teeth, then.  After 20-30 games almost every game had at least one repeat question, and often more.  Both in single player and multiplayer.  If that's "intelligent" question selection...

Zebrasqual was (once again) the first to 200/200 this game.  It looks like it took him more than 160 games.

Just because you've seen the same question doesn't mean you have seen the EXACT same question. :) I used to play an online triva game that was known to have multiple instances of the same question in the database. For example, question #300 was the same as question #375. I don't know if that is the case here or not, but out of 700 questions, they could have accidentally included some twice.

Um, unless they wrote 100 questions and copied + pasted 7 times, that's not the explanation here.  Repeats are all over the place.  Try the game yourself and see.

After about 60 games played total, i started to get about 3 questions per game that i already had previously answered. Some games more and some less.  Anyways, this 700 question achievement sucks because the AI in this game is crap.

Currently at 225 games played and countless hours and still no achievement. This is gonna take alot longer than I thought. It doesn't seem to be giving new questions as much. Zebrasqual got lucky he got his achievement at only around 150 games while Smallywood got his at around 480 games! This goes down as one of the top ten stupidest arcade achievements ever. Luckily, you can just leave your Xbox on and it will play while you are away.

Oh god no, i sure hope i dont have to do 480 games or more.  160-200 wont be so bad.  But Smallywood got the shaft for this achievement thats for sure.

You know what's funny?  It's not bad enough that they write the game so poorly that it doesn't even track which questions you've seen, leading to 1/10th the replay value.   They then had the bright idea of making an achievement designed just to rub the repeat questions in your face!

At least they've set a new record: the longest achievement in XBLA that can be accomplished by just leaving the controller alone.  LOL...

Do teams of monkeys write these XBLA games, or what? Angry [:@]

Least it can be done in autopilot, it would be worse if it had had press A and B controls or the like which needed constant human input..

Poor design indeed.

Wow Arcade Addicts got his achievement at only 120 wins and without a turbo controller. Very lucky I must say. Or4nge M4chine is on his friends list and can see his profile since Arcade Addicts blocks his games for non-friends but he told me he got the Super Wit achievement without the turbo, so that is confirmed. I was pretty sure it works when you leave it on anyway because it says "K4rn4ge answered in 30.0 seconds" for instance when I don't press anything.

I have never had a turbo controller, but i have heard about this turbo controller that hori makes.  Do any of you guys use that blue hori controller for the 360?  I'm just asking because it looks to be of greater quality than the microsoft controller and the 13x and 26x turbo controls for each of the four face buttons makes it a hard to resist deal for me.  I think its $40 plus shipping and handling.  What do you guys suggest?

Just realized that this is the 20th reply in the 200/200 thread, and it is actually the first signature here. I hate luck based achievements.

Re: 200/200

the blue hori pad is a must......my first game of contra once i bought this was when i finally beat the game.  it makes that much of a difference.

congrats to johnny for actually getting a 200 in this game.

im so glad i didnt buy this game after seeing all my arcade gamer friends leave this game to play itself all weekend.......and i would check some of their profiles every few hours only to see they still didnt have the achievement.......thats bs.  i think snap has been letting it go for near 72 hours now and still no achievement......i think that earned him atleast one kick to the developers crotch.

i think i would rather play a throttle monkey atari game then to try for this 700 questions achievement.......thats pretty damn bad.

I'm all for finding shortcuts to get achievements and I boost from time to time, but we can't really gripe at the developers for making an achievement that takes a while to get. I like getting quick/easy achievements from time to time, but they can't all be that way or it would become boring.

With that being said, this would have been a much better game if they had designed it to track your chip winnings and created an achievement for something like "Winning 10000 chips". That way, people would actually have to play through the games and make bets to earn chips.

And yes, I had my Xbox running all day yesterday "playing" this game. Smile [:)]

I don't know,  Texas Hold 'em 'Luck of the Draw' is still king for me (51,000+ hands).  Of course, I don't have the 'Super Wit' achievement yet, so time will tell.

So do you have a turbo controller?  If you're playing single-player or hosting on-line, doesn't that require user input?  Rubberbanding or taping doesn't seems to work.

No, I don't have a turbo controller. I was playing online. When playing online the game will automatically progress without you having to do anything.

However, I have a home office and just found out that my wireless controller will work from one room to the other, so now I am playing 4 player local and I have the timing down so when I hear the sound effects I know when to tap "A" while I am in my office working. The games go by twice as fast (about 6 minutes per game).

Does anyone know if the Super Wit achievement unlocks during the actual last question you need or at the very end of the match? I really hope I am close this is taking too long. People with less games than me on the leaderboard managed to get it. I'm not too lucky I guess.

Re: 200/200

Hello,

We at Hidden Path have both been excited to see so many people online playing and enjoying Wits & Wagers, and we've also been concerned ourselves that there appear to be a few behaviors in the game that are seen now, but were never seen in the hundreds of hours of testing that took place before the game was released.

Questions repeating, for example, happens somewhat frequently now, but it never once happened in testing, and the same goes for the wrong person being identified as the Winner at the end of some games.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that we're investigating how this could have possibly happened, working with our testing partners and Microsoft to understand what has happened, and are working towards eleminating those issues both for those who run into them casually and those who's achievements are impacted by this.

I'll report back when we know the cause and when I can tell you what is being done about it.  Thanks much for your patience.
