First Blood

Fitst Blood

The cold mettalic cockpit was made colder by the moskojian eternal winter, displays and dials had to be constantly wiped as every surface was unescapable from the touch of frost. The cockpit wasn't designed for comfort, it was designed as an efficient mobile killing machine, no plans for central heating.

In Nemoirus, the only paying job taht was left was being a mercenary, the populace, starving had no escape from war,the only way they could escape poverty was return to war, it was die of starvation or be killed on the battlefield.

I had enlisted and the first squad I was a member of was tac sqaud 121, unfortunately I would recieve my baptism of fire quickly, they were leading the spearhead towards the capital of morskoj. The next target was the town of savonovo, the next stop of the morskojian railway, it was in the mountainous area and could easily be defended, a perfect forward base but a difficult fight.

The trek had been long and ardueous despite just sitting in a cockpit, the freezing temperatures, the dark nights and the forbidance of lights and the treacherous region. We only made it thanks to our morkojian guide, an exile who had been accpeted by the democratic republic of tarakia, use to be a scout but needed the firepower so became a soldier, there was no room for scouts in this battle.

We had reached the outskirts of town but hadn't gone unnoticed, we came under sustained artillery fire but luckily the advantage of the mountainous terrain gave us plenty of cover, in the end the artillery became background noise as it was hardly any danger due to the terrain and innacuracy. We reached our assigned head quarters and let them remove our long term fuel tanks, they were now empty thanks to the journey and were just dead weight for the coming battle. We began to move out when the seemingly "safe" artillery became accurate it hit the HQ that contained our fuel tanks. There was a gigantic fireball that engulfed everything in the small valley. All ground forces were dead, incenerated, we had suffered some damage but had to fight on. Located and alone we had alot to do......

The rest of the team began to trudge forward, artillery fire had stopped due to the belief that we were all dead. A holographic 3D display flickered into existence in my cockpit, illuminating it with a strange greenish glow, we were being led by the guide through a mountain pass that looked down on to savonovo and the rest of the surrounding area.

We were led up a narrow mountain pass, to our right was a cliff face and to our left was a deadly drop, an ambush now would be fatal. We reached the peak of the pass, the vista of the area was astonishing, death seemed to haunt it but it had the same ideals of a christmas postcard, this was immediatly interrupted by a poor quality communication from our commander, the guide didn't speak, only led, it was left to the commander to decipher his actions. "Snipers, remain in position and do supressive and covering fire, the guide and Mastercjh will move down and eliminate in close combat", the message ended, due to poor signal or it was short for other reasons known only to the commander, I will never know.

Me, the commander and the two other snipers fired at stationed ACV's meanwhile the two soldiers trundled down the path towards savanovo. Artillery fire resumed, directed at the snipers only fortunately due to our gunfire, the rounds proved innefective due to our elevated position. The soldier duo had reached the town but had been engaged as all of us noticed gunfire and explosions from behind the buildings, our commander also noticed a pair of snipers, he ordered us to supress them to help the soldiers.

Two minutes later and the ground battle had moved, the town of savonovo was now in ruin due to the battle, through the smoke four hounds emerged, battling, both of ours had survived but at what cost, mastercjh was sparking and the guide was on fire, we was ordered to switch targets again but the commander remained on the snipers.

After a minute of concentrated fire on the enemy soldiers, one had been destroyed but the other seemed unscathed, the guide had been killed leaving a sparking mastercjh in a duel. It hit again, the artillery proved itself accurate again causing a direct hit amongst the us 4 snipers, the other two were killed, there dying screams still haunt me as the chemical rouds caused them to burn alive in a exploding cockpit, just a damaged me and commander remained waiting for the next round mean while an outgunned mastrcjh was fighting basically alone......

I recieved my final message ever from the commander as the comm flickered into existence briefly,
"move down the eastern slope and locate the artillery" it crackled.
I trundled down the mountain and finally saw the four legged fiend that had killed so many, I unleashed 4 rounds on him in quick succesion, he exploded in the middle of an icy forest.

I remained in position as I could provide good covering fire for mastercjh, our commander had also switched targets, he was no longer en garde, many rounds hit him in quick succesion destroying his mech and with it him and our morale. mastercjh became suppresed from two snipers, the enemy soldier turned his attention to me, luckily he was on a dual legged chassis that wasn't too maneuvarable. He came straight at me, trying to duck and weave and firing his longest range assault weapons, his fire was mostly innaccurate but there wasn't  much ground left between me and him, he was ablaze from the damage I had dealt him but he was to close.

He blew up from behind.

mastercjh had manuevered himself behind cover and had got behind the soldier, he unleashed a barrage of rockets on the damaged generator, it exploded and caused a chain reaction.

Sniper fire resumed its accuracy on mastercjh, he exploded but through the smoke I could see him moving, he had been crippled losing a fair few parts, he started towards the cliffside snipers, I reclimbed the mountain and began fire on the snipers as a destraction, they turned their fire on me, it was difficult to dodge their rounds as they were kinetic as my structural integrity gradually whittled away. I made a perfect hit with a chemical round on the cockpit, enemy gunfire had been decreased majorly, I ignored the limping hound and began a gunfight with the intact sniper.

Kinectic rounds imbedded themselves in my armour, chemcial rounds schorched and burned the enemy armour as we eached tried to dodge on the narrow ledges, I saw a third hound appear on the opposite side of the valley, I ceased fire. The following minutes were followed by shotgun and rocket fire and two explosions.

As the sunset over a crumbling Savonovo, it did nothing to change the colour of the air, rays of orange cut through the cloud of smoke from gunfire and wrecks but that was it, grey, grey like the rest of this war, grey like the marks on my hound, grey like the camo on the reinforcements, me and my comrade returned to HQ with our grey emotionless faces.

a nerd? If someone won't take the time and the effort to review their posts why should they expect me to take the time to read it. It's even worse if someone makes the effort to write a story. They should at least learn the language before they try to write.
